Okay. I need a break. So new information is out an people are still arguing and bickering on the mighty pages of ATS. I miss Planet X. Anyone else feel the same?

Yeah, I've posted in the threads, trying to contribute. But I don't know what else to say. I'll always be for people protesting. That's a given. But the pages of back-and-forth over unsubstantiated innuendo just gets tiring.

I wonder if there are others that feel the same way.

Shouldn't we, as reasonably smart intelligent people, take a step back and look at the data without bias?

Aren't we, as a community, smart enough to do so?

Dunno. Maybe it's just me.

(go back to the fighting. . . . . )

words like this?

After my call with Michael Brown's grandfather, I read reports of alleged looting and violence (mostly property damage) in Ferguson. Like many, including the family of Brown, I was saddened by these images and stories. Instead of keeping the focus on justice for the deceased teenager, the behavior of some attempted to take attention away from the fact that another unarmed child was reportedly shot and killed by police. While there is understandable frustration and outrage in the community, we cannot push back against the disregard for human life by threatening it ourselves. We cannot fight a police officer's inability to control his/her anger and emotions by demonstrating our own inability to control ours. The moment we lose our pledge to a non-violent movement, we become part of what we claim to be fighting. Do not allow this to happen; we must remain dedicated to a higher moral commitment.

I feel like the butt of a long joke the MSM and other unknowns have played on me.
I can't help but feel it is a conspiracy to keep us fighting amongst each other, rather then looking at the real issues under our noses.
Why don't we go back to arguing about bigfoot, UFO's and bad pictures/videos of them. . .

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think that there is anyone on ATS that;
Wants looting and rioting
Wants police brutality
Wants abuses against peaceful protesters

If that is the case. . . . . what is all the bickering aboot? (for my Canadian friends)

Yeah Beez. But do you think it possible to post in a thread like this without going off topic.

1... Mike Brown Protest
2.... Police-are-evil
3.... Racism
4.....Martial Law
5.... Al Sharpton
6.....Looting Riot

I mean following any of those topics could spin us all off into some sort of off topic netherworld.

It's clutter. It distracts from what happened.

I guess we are all basically just smart animals that have been conditioned to a point and will follow whatever lead our emotions take us.

I'm not the sharpest bulb in the drawer, but even I can see that the core issues (which we all agree on) are being substituted for the dross that inhabits so much of society and the interwebz.

WASP authoritarians instinctively and systematically smear any leaders that emerge from popular movements and underclasses. The USG bugs them, smears them, threatens them, extorts them and if they are strong enough, murders them.

White America either actively supports this with hate or passively supports it with ignorance.

This thread made me think of a previous thread beezzer.
This board is like one big gossip colony that serves no collective purpose other then the stimulation of ones individual need to belong and the endorphin rush from reinforcement through the form of stars and flags. In light of this bias, individual statements have motive or pretense and can never serve the collective community as factual statements made by independent individuals. Addiction.

In the past few days everything is starting to look the same to me:
RT propaganda, MSM western commercialist bias and mixtures of the two.
All that's left is looking out your left window for information and then screaming it out your right window to your neighbor!

The world needs rational people.

There is a dearth of irrational people constantly screaming and shouting over other irrational people.

I have periods of lucid thought and rational behavior and I try to capitalize on that.

But to repeat, the world needs rational people. The rational folks may not be heard right away, but they will be remembered.

I wonder why this is. Me too. Is it that we are becoming brain numb from all the info. Maybe the struggle between the arguments on one side and the arguments on the other within ourselves. Maybe just attempting to keep an open mind is'nt as easy as we might have believed. Or maybe we are just developing to a point where our own clarity is seeing more and more of this world for what it really is. Don't know

History has proven this. This is why good people don't always step up. People with nothing to lose do.

Yeah, Beeze. I'd even settle for some of Arken's rocks about now. A lively debate over Chinese lanterns or birds would be a refreshing break.

I feel overly saturated with Ferguson MO at the moment. I'm ready for some fluff.

I got ya. It's disconcerting to come to a realization that this may be true about ourselves as well as about everyone else. For a long time I thought I was making up my own mind about all the stuff I believed and others were just parrots. Ha. Man it takes some juice to dismantle ones own edifice to try and find all the things we have been passionate about that are based on nothing more than false reasoning and information pablum.

So, anyone wanna talk about how Discover Channel devoted an entire hour to a giant hammerhead shark that is rumored to be off the coast of Florida called "Old Hitler?" I mean, what a dumb name for a shark. Who in their right mind sees a hammerhead shark and says, "Yeah, I think that reminds me of Hitler ... Hmmm, Hitler .... Old Hitler!"

Somehow, I can see this old dude being the one to tell the story of how Old Hitler got it's name. "Yap, there's a lotta history with that shark."

So, can I get points for most creative Godwin's Rule?

It takes time and effort to come up with a reasonably thoughtful position on anything. Many people haven't been taught how to do it, or have had experience doing it.

When you're hit with five "important" issues at a time, there are really only two choices. Stay quiet about some of them, or say the first thing that pops into your mind.

Of course for some, they have already decided their opinions in certain broad areas, and are able to repeat their slogans without having to pay attention to anyone else.

Solution? None is possible. All you can do is walk away from the "quicksand" threads.
