Breaking news actor Robin Williams found dead

US actor Robin Williams found dead, aged 63, in apparent suicide, California police say.

Williams was famous for films such as Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poet's Society.

The authorities in California are describing it as an apparent suicide.

Seriously??? Horrible news if true. What a comic treasure, at least in his heyday. His first big break, 'Mork and Mindy'' could just as well been named the Robin Williams improv show.

EDIT: Watching CNN, apparently he was in a deep depression. He ran with a fast crowd many years ago (in the John Belushi days), but darn this is too bad. Mork from Orc, signing off.

That's really too bad. He always struck me as a very genuine and kind person, especially considering his celebrity.

I am so sad about this! I grew up watching so many of his movies and shows. I know he had past issues with depression, etc but still shocking.

Oddly enough, just yesterday there was a big internet hoax about him passing away. I can't recall who it was now but I know this same thing happened to another actor that died right after a hoax.

I don't know what to say... he always made me smile no matter how bad I felt..

Has to be a conspiracy, maybe it was those derogatory comments regarding the Church of Scientology like the Enron and L Ron jokes?

I just watched him in a new movie the other day "The angriest man in NY" It was sad cause he died at the end and now this.

Incredibly sad news. One of the greatest comedians ever, if not the greatest. He seemed like a great guy too. RIP Robin.

Wow. I wonder if he heard about it and decided to turn the joke on its head (depending on how long he's been planning this). I hope he left a good-bye video for his fans, with some good yucks in it. I just told someone about this and she said 'You never know' someone.

This makes me so sad, he was brilliant, he was in a lot of my favourite films growing up. Although it tends to be the funny ones that struggle the hardest behind the scenes. RIP, and all my thoughts to his family.

I am sure he is now where he belongs. Up there.

I wonder if he read the rumors and thought to play one last joke before going by making it happen for real. Very very sad. I did not see this coming at all.

Bummer. A funny guy along George Carlin's calibre. A sad day to be sure. He fought his demons openly and now it appears, if proven, he lost the battle.

OK that is weird. What is really weird is i have been offline for a while up till the last few days. I had a dream about Micheal J Fox of all people (not a big fan) So i thought that this dream was odd so when I got online again a few days ago I was curious to see if maybe he had passed away? To my surprise he was also involved in a internet death hoax recently as well. Hope he dont die now.

He was the voice of the Genie in Aladdin!

I can't believe he's dead... suicide doesn't strike me as something a guy like him would do, but they say he was depressed so it's more likely than not.

See you on the flip side Robin, will miss you dearly man.
