Probably because you don't know what you're talking about on the subject matter or no one agrees with you. When I don't receive stars and other people do, its most of the time a good indication that I'm wrong. But not always.

Sometimes, you might find a lot of people that are wrong and they'll star each other. So you don't always have to be right, just be as wrong as everyone else.

Let's make this a veritable star orgy. Star until it hurts.

I concede the flags are a helpful tool for identifying importance of topics,

But I do feel many members have gone star crazy - and I suppose I do get it, I just can't totally understand the attraction to digital stars!

Star whores just say popular opinions, a discussion is meant to have many angles and people "vote" with their stars on good posts.

You can always tell when somone is just star whoring and those that actually add somthing to a debate for the sake of a good discussion at the risk of being 'wrong' or controversial.

Im pretty certain that the stars and flag are a way to know that people have an empathy with the poster. In this case its fun, it makes people feel good (mostly) etc

Just feel bad, moody,and my husband's at work, and the cat is acting cold towards me for some reason I don't know.

She's very demanding.
