Global Warming Deniers Become More Desperate By the Day

In light of the methane news today, I thought I'd share some words from David Suzuki:

The Heartland Institute’s recent International Climate Change Conference in Las Vegas illustrates climate change deniers’ desperate confusion. As Bloomberg News noted, “Heartland’s strategy seemed to be to throw many theories at the wall and see what stuck.” A who’s who of fossil fuel industry supporters and anti-science shills variously argued that global warming is a myth; that it’s happening but natural—a result of the sun or “Pacific Decadal Oscillation;” that it’s happening but we shouldn’t worry about it; or that global cooling is the real problem.

Fortunately, most people don’t buy irrational attempts to disavow science. A Forum Research poll found 81 percent of Canadians accept the reality of global warming, and 58 percent agree it’s mostly human-caused. An Ipsos MORI poll found that, although the U.S. has a higher number of climate change deniers than 20 countries surveyed, 54 percent of Americans believe in human-caused climate change. (Research also shows climate change denial is most prevalent in English-speaking countries, especially in areas “served” by media outlets owned by Rupert Murdoch, who rejects climate science.)

Don't ya just love spouted numbers?

How much of the methane that was burped by the holes had a human source?

1%? 2%? 100%? None?

Those holes are thought to be a normal lake forming action that happens at "The End Of The World"...

How many lakes formed there, by that process in the last 500, 1000, 10,000 years?

I'd be willing to bet at least 1 besides the ones that formed recently.

Humans aren't needed, just warmer weather, and that happens without us.

It's called "climate change" and it's been happening since the formation of the Earth. To think, some "scientists" believe the climate and weather would remain unchanged, is rather scary

Your title speaks of global warming. You speak of climate change. These are not interchangeable terms and it is where the main line lay between believer and denier.

Global Warming suggests the planets average is rising and has to sheepishly explain odd variations that shouldn't quite be how and where they are. The pause in the warming for recent years for one.

Climate Change accounts for that in looking at the fact weather in all it's forms is becoming less predictable and stable. Temperatures and events seem included equally for that. Warming as the proven trend seems hard to not laugh at some days though.

Define Awkward: Explaining to tourists how Death Valley really is a fitting name for a very comfy valley they experience in the middle of summer right now. It's not normal, but it's far from warming. It's unanticipated change.

These gases coming up from the bottom of the ocean are in no way man made, this is a natural geological process that the earth is going through in its own way, even if there is "global warming" based on the fact that these gas vents are not man made would suggest that the earth goes through warming processes all on its own, the cooling process may also be a natural cooling process, or it may have been a cooling event caused by an asteroid strike, if it was something along those lines, the earth may just be warming back up to its normal temperature, kind of like saying that it is in a recovery process.

I don't disavow science.
I listen to a scientist. He studies trees. Very, Very old trees.
He can tell you all about warming and cooling CYCLES. For hundreds of years.


If these scientist want to talk about pollution, that does damage the earth, then I will listen. But to lump all this B.S. into global warming, and it is all our fault? No thank you.

So, it's our fault the dino's lived in a tropical paradise? The ice age was our fault too, right?

You are 100% correct on this specific fact. And these pockets of methane in the ocean and locked in the permafrost have been trapped by cold for millenia.

Man Made CO2 emmissions have raised the eath's temperature enough that these pockets are no longer safely contained. You have to think more then one step. Methane is a much worse greenhouse gas then CO2.

No we didn't put it there, but we are complisant in their release.

I hadn't planned on responding to this thread, I was just going to watch it but your point was valid about the source of this methane which has been sequestered since before man walked the planet. And it need to remain safely contained if we want to continue to walk the surface.

The amount of scientists, that actually promote the idea that the earth is "constant" is more than just scary ...

The evidence shows that climate change is real and is partly due to mans actions. Now, you have to examine the whole picture, our activity is the tipping point, it is not the only contributor. It is speeding up the process, we wouldn't be experiencing this for hundreds of years if we had been more conservative. That is beyond my lifetime, my daughters lifetime, my grandchildrens lifetime, and even my grandchildrens grandchildren's lifetime.

We have accelerated this, but it is going to effect many generations now because of our stupidity.

Now, I do not automatically take what people say as real unless I look at the evidence and situation that is occurring and evaluate it myself. I do see that the tax they are trying to collect will probably not be used to fix anything, instead it will be used for stimulating the economy which is usually in opposition of ecology.

Look what happened with gas-a-hol. The product has destroyed a lot of good farmland, the stuff does not burn as efficiently, and the regulations on pesticides and destructive chemicals are not there like they are for regular food. The bloom in Toledo is probably partly caused by this corn growing, ruin the water for something that lowers efficiency of our vehicles. It does not help ecology one bit, it is an economy booster.

If you give the government a good idea, they screw it all up and make it expensive. They pass the expense off to the taxpayer and raise our taxes. The hidden taxes on everything are just a way of deceiving us into believing the cost of government is not absurd. Where do we get these deceivers from? Do we order them from the Devil? I'd like to find the catalog so I could burn it.

God bless those who don't believe that man is ruining and warming up the planet.

It is comforting to know though, that their ideologies are in the minority.

The "I'm right and scientists are stupid" thing just doesn't cut it with me, sorry.

Here's my problem with what you said although I agree with a lot of it:

We don't know or understand all the many variables that go into making our climate what it is. Any responsible scientist will tell you this. So, if we don't understand the mechanisms and how they all work together, how can we know for certain what our own contributions are and what they fully mean?

The simple answer is that we can't.

The very best we can do is make suppositions that this or that isn't good, but to be able to tell for certain sure that this or that is the "straw the broke the climate's back?" No. We just don't know. After all, there is good evidence that when climate does decide to shift on its own, it can happen very suddenly with no outside help.

I don't deny that the climate changes. It has always changed and always will regardless of a human presence.

What I DO believe in is a global political agenda to control the population and take their money.

But do we have to keep putting straw on that camels back till it breaks? Now you are right, the proof does show lot of it is natural. But just because most of it is natural doesn't mean we can't reduce the straws we are adding.

That camel already has a lot of straw on it's back, we can't do much about reducing that anymore, it is glued on now with sticky glue and it is sucking in more straw from the camel walking in the field. Well, that is a long way of saying it has already gone perpetual.

So what can we do? Reduce our impact a little by making things that last longer and combining trips to the store. Carpooling would help also. Just making a pantry for food in your house will lessen our store trips and also supply some security if something happens. This disrespect of the environment has been going on for a long time, it took a lot of years of waste and polluting to get to this point.

Nothing I have said supports a new tax. It does not even require our government if everyone gets on board. In my thoughts, all those Jets in the air are the worst contributers because most of those trips aren't really necessary and most people wouldn't be traveling if it took them three days to get there and three days back. Cheap airfare started a trend that increased emissions. Before people would try to avoid long trips.

Ah, but the money and shill argument can work both ways. Big business and big government both have their agendas, as do big climate/environment, do they not? To think that any of them are actually friendly toward any of us is simply to buy into a delusion.

We really don't.

So the best we can do is mitigate ourselves at the local level and stop trying to create grand, global control schemes for it all. Because really, in the end, the best any of us can do is take care of ourselves, and the bigger and grander our power schemes get, the less real control there actually is as more and more corruption and push-back creeps in. The poorer people are, the more they will start burning things like wood, for example.

Thread after thread with titles that ridicule those who dont believe!

Its exactly how the msm works, they post article after article knowing full well that when listed by search engines and forum listings its the title thats the most visible, and the message in the title is "Non believers are crazy"
