Russia Today, or as many know it, RT.COM, is the state-funding propaganda machine from the Kremlin's Ministry of Mass Media, with direct oversight from Putin. Through a relatively well conceived strategic plan, RT.com has covered news and issues that resonate well with a disenfranchised US millennial audience, as well as a broader US segment who identify better with global viewpoints than they do with provincial viewpoints. This strategy has resulted in a strong audience affinity, and a great many people never realized RussiaToday/RT.com is state-run propaganda from Russia.

An iconic quote from the movie, Red October: "Russians never even go to the [bathroom] without a plan," is a real-world sentiment from the days of the cold war. Russia Today and the US-centric focus of RT.com is part of a long-term plan to shape opinion through lies and twisted facts, in preparation for this moment in history -- new Russian imperialism and expansion.

For years, Russia's RT network has sought to establish itself as a mainstream global news provider. But since the start of the crisis in Ukraine, RT's coverage has been blasted as one-sided propaganda, even by some of its own correspondents. We speak with current and former RT staffers to get a sense of what life is like inside the state-funded network.

My Dad is always telling me how RT is the best thing going on cable news.

I tell him that if it's on cable, it's crap.

A Russian news network with it's own 24 hour news channel on American cable network. What could go wrong? Americans are waking up and just LOVE the idea of alternative news sources. But they're still asleep in that they will take any 'alternative' news source available if it only doesn't seem to conform to the same superficial look and feel of CNN, FOX, MSNBC, etc.

RT can tell the people that 9/11 was an inside job, that Benghazi wasn't just a protest gone wrong, that Fast and Furious was not on the level. They can run hour long specials on how America is being screwed by their government and what WE should do about it, but it's still just a ploy to entice Americans to play into the hands of the MAJOR actors.

At this point, I believe that the mission of RT is to foment a platform for America's next civil war.

RT does not even acknowledge Sara Firth's resignation on their web page!

rt.com...

They will not report the news they make!

Perhaps they should take a leaf out of Australia's national public broadcaster, ABC.

Although it could be argued they're leaning too far the other way against the government, particularly when a right wing government is in power, as it is at the moment..

www.abc.net.au...

Personally, I have no issue with them taking the government to task, especially when the government funds them!

that Benghazi wasn't just a protest gone wrong

Interesting footnote on that, that received very little coverage:
No administration wrongdoing in Benghazi attack

The House Intelligence Committee, led by Republicans, has concluded that there was no deliberate wrongdoing by the Obama administration in the 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, said Rep. Mike Thompson of St. Helena, the second-ranking Democrat on the committee.

This reminds me of a thread on ATS where Russell Brand attacks Fox news; that its all propaganda and such.
But the question arose that if youre going to attack one outlet, why not attack them all? Theyre all pushin BS.

Why do you single out RT?

So what, someone's got to fight the NWO, why not Vladimir Putin?

As for state propoganda..Its not like both sides aren't doing it, this is World War 3.. it started a couple of years ago in Syria... one out all out as they say... Do I think Putin is an imperialist? ... When i saw the noble front he put up against Whitehouse threats of military intervention in Syria I knew there was something more to his leadership than just being a typical puppet of the NWO ..Either he & his whole state department is outright lying and extremely misleading or they genuinely have no interest unlike the puppet powers of the NWO in neo-imperialism, if you actually listen to what both sides are saying, as events unfold. Crimea & Ukraine are different as they're border states whose joint history is centuries old. It's a stretch, to say the least, to call those interests indicative of a repressed desire for global conquest.

The annoying things is that normally RT do not have to spin much to frankly be closer to the objective truth than the American news that spin everything for their Rothschild banking masters.

Skeptic you already know my views on RT..
and I know yours... So why don't you just ban RT from
ATS.. it makes sense to me!

He brought it up because there were multiple threads all stating that RT is basically the end all Be all in regards to whats really going on in the West, and whats going on with Ukraine.....

The objective of this thread ( i assume) is to facilitate the discussion that perhaps RT doesnt have objective journalism as one of its main tenants......

When you are only allowed to report certian things, how objective can you really be?

And also because this thread isnt about other news outlets, its a thread about RT

Why do you single out RT?

Because Russia Today is a state-run propaganda machine, while very few ATS members seem to be aware of that, and even fewer of the public at large.

The difference between propaganda and bias is very important. US (and other western) news media exhibits bias, with RT represents propaganda. My posts in another thread outline my experience with such matters.

So your standpoint is

"better the devil you know then the devil you dont"

Thats doesnt seem like a good way to go about things

NO!

Banning them would just play in their favor. Just be aware of their spin and who pays the bill. Let them be seen for what they are *just another bunch of robotic talking heads spewing their crap trying to sway the masses just like every other News outlet.

Unfortunately. What I would not give for news that are objective and giving all the dirt on the people/liars who try to spin it.

Could not resist this video.

I said some time ago that they should rename themselves to Propaganda Today.

They used to be alright though, until recently when they became too one-sided (not just in Ukraine) to ever be considered a reliable news source.

LoL well I cant disagree with you there, I wish there was such a place......

But then again if there was , it would facilitate more people getting information spoon fed to them then going out and finding out for themselves........

I think its good that we know that not eveything can be taken at face value.......

Those of us, like the people on this site, who are aware of this , actively search for truth........

it forces us to engage in the world around us

The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 has had some rather serious misinterpretation from the reflexively heavy knee-jerking crowd, fueled by misinformation. It lifts outdated restrictions put in place in 1948, and does not create a US propaganda mechanism. That already existed with VOA.

It has been discussed. However, instead of banning them, we modified the Terms and Conditions to ban the actions of their operatives who have been spotted here on ATS.
