Extraterrestrial spies on Earth

Now I may be a bit skeptical about UFOs and alien encounters in general, however is it possible that an hypothetical extraterrestrial civilization would send spies to Earth to monitor our progress? (Social, Technological, Military etc)

Of course in this scenario they were able to morph, use a holographic disguise, or look like humans.

If I were a leader of a extraterrestrial government I would definitely send scouts into Earth especially since my people may go to war in the future with humanity if they were to go to the stars due to humanity's militaristic culture.

Also in what cities, country or places would an extraterrestrial civilization would send operatives in? Would they infiltrate the TPTB and governments?

What would their cover? Would their cover be politicians, scientists, military leaders etc?

Would they commit acts of sabotage in order to prevent humanity from ever progressing just to prevent war in the future?

Would they use their spies to form a puppet government a la Vichy France should they come to takeover Earth?

How would they deal with other extraterrestrial civilizations' operatives?

Well, yes, I suppose it is possible, if you presume they look identical to us, or can morph, or shape shift into something resembling us. If they can't do that, can't see it working out really. I don't think someone turning up looking like one of the cuties out of the MIB films will blend into the background somehow!

Anyhow, we have enough problems with our own kind spying on us, let alone ET.

heh, interesting it crossed my mind at one point that Animals could possibly play this roll.

however i started thinking that if "they" are so far advanced in technology then why wouldn't "they" just be able to tap right into our brains ? and use our eyes for spying ? ......lol

I dont believe in extraterrestrial spies
I dont belive in advance civilizations have room nor nature for thoughs of war and destruction

BUT I do believe they have interfered with nuclear toys in the past and perhaps still prevents us in using them.

Not because we are a threat to them, but a threat to our self
and if we destroy our self, they won't have any silly humans to laugh at

I would say they down load ALL about YOU in about 10 seconds in your presence,based on what I have read, if they are here,we wouldn't know it if WE were part of it.

Also keep in mind since the galaxy and the universe is big wouldn't some extraterrestrials have a militaristic culture? Especially those that have to compete for resources with rival extraterrestrial civilizations.

I'm a "possible/probable" kind of thinker. I think everything/anything is possible and most likely probable.

My pet peeve: thinking there is only one kind of off-planet being.

One way I look at is - in comparison to how humans investigate worlds that are different to them. Insect world, animal world, even indigenous people. Let's use the rain forest as an example. Some humans want no contact or disruption of native species (human or otherwise). Some want minimal contact for study and hopefully benevolent support. Some want full contact to study and possibly introduce them to the modern world. Some want to exploit the people and plants for monetary gain. Some just don't care about anything but Me, Me, Me.

IMO there are off planet beings already aware of earth/humans who fit every category/example I stated for the rain forest. And then some.

I honestly believe the "war in Heaven", was a real political war over control of earth.

Yep! POLITICS! I think it's pretty much just as crazy beyond what we know here as humans on earth.

Those civilizations of militaristic culture would never make it past light speed and hypersleep tech in my opinion, they would either blow up or embrace peace and progress .

WE humans will of course speculate in militaristic alien cultures, because we live it, and the idea of total peace it still fantasy talk here on earth, but those that have the ability to travel between stars would have that in my opinion.

The most plausible spies to track everything we do: snooping nanobots. Vernor Vinge's sci-fi novel, "A Deepness in the Sky" featured this technology. You scatter hordes of nanobots around, and have advanced computers analyze and digest the data. We already have insect-sized bots with a camera and a radio link, think what more advanced aliens could do in this area!

I've actually spoke to a few friends about this idea when I told them I believed aliens have come here before and might still be here and they've always said WHY? My opinion on your points are easy to understand, I think they'd be at least a group of about twelve or thirteen scouts to come here and be a part of our world, this is how I would plan it out if I was sitting on an alien world planning my checks on humanity

1 - Twelve of my top scouts, mix of military (four) Science (Four) Social/Archaeology (Two) and open minded (two)
2 - Split them into two groups and send one to the lowest level country and the other group to the highest most dominant country.
3 - Gain military positions, science and charity work, so that I could see all forms of Humanities emotions in the sense of their wars, their medical and technology levels and of course how much they care for those who they see as being at the bottom.
4 - Give it ten years. Yep just ten years to report back on what the human race is like, nowadays everything seems to change month after month so Ten years to see how mankind treats each other is enough.

Then I would decide whether to invade, reach out and make contact or corner off and warn all the other alien races out there that this world is diseased with human kind.

(My opinion is that aliens wouldn't wanna make contact with our modern world because we are all to untrusting.)

Fascinating book, loved the multi generation aspect. If humans can conceive to formulate a plan to influence a planetary species I'm sure someone else has. If you can think of something, even in a work of fiction, you could conceivably do it. reply to: Parthin

WHy invade? The Romeo kilos in orbit(breakaway civilization) can turn off our nuclear weapons with their tech any time they would want to. And they have one time experimenting with the Black triangles they fly.

They are also proof of a race can be militaristic and achieve intersteller flight. Of course this is all 2nd hand info from a trusted source whose truthfullness has been verfied many times so take it as you will. And before ya do Dont ask for who they are.

They would become IT specialists, perhaps even giving some of their technology in the field as "innovation" and perhaps even found large tech companies. Control of and access to information is where the real power lies.

It would be more like Extra Terrestrial xenobiologists and naturalists studying a species in it's own habitat, they would compile a thorough knowledge of human physiology, psychology and culture so any such meeting would likely have the ball strictly in there park, as specied in close proximity converge to a similar level of development it is possible that conflict may arise so maybe under those circumstances it would indeed be prudent to make more militaristic and defencive surveilance of there neighbouring species and its potential, of course in such a scenario there is alway's a risk that the observer may make a precautionary attack on there subject.

I don't think any alien species would land one of their own onto a foreign world without gathering information first from a distance.

Their families? Father, Mother, Sister, Brother etc..

Depends if we are the only species that thinks on terms like operatives at all, every other advanced species out there could be beyond war but retain the capability for it.

They are called spirits. They do spy by way of viewing events through our eyes. They hide themselves behind the innocent. There are two different sets of spies. One from the left and one from the right. They usually have a misson and can hide any negativity until after the act. There is a gate they can go through and be born into a human body but the information sharing that way is minimal.
