I don't think there's a need to reduce the population. What we need to do is overthrow the corporate psychopaths in charge.

yeah... but agent smith was a character in a movie... plus he was just a corrupted program... sooooo theres really no need to take his word for things.

So what? Mind the message, not the messenger.

Do you really believe the "real" people on TV speaks any more truth?

...I'm tired of the climate change debate. Let's just start with the obvious stuff we know we are responsible for and can fix....toxic waste, general pollution, indiscriminate use of pesticides and antibiotics, agricultural mismanagement, food waste, overfishing, poor land management, etc...

Ditto. I concur. Agreed. Let's get on with it.

The Earth was here billions of years before man and will be here for a few more billion when he is gone. We will leave but a few scares on her surface and she and whatever else is alive will be better off for it. Why do people think they are so important to not die off? I saw a rhino the other day with his horn cut off, I could not believe rhinos could do that to each other...Oh wait man did that.. How about the whale that killed the other one just for its blubber...oh wait that was man too..Oh but what how about all of those trees killing each other in the amazon forest...Oh damn man too, yeah we are so important and good to this world it would be a shame if we disappeared.

... their loss would have trickle-down effects that could shake the stability of other species and, in some cases, even human health.

As the human race is growing and consuming everything in its path, I am not surprised to hear this study...hence why NWO demands population control on humans...just like humans put population control on an overpopulated animal species....

You really need to investigate spiders. I don't find them cuddly or worthy of being pets, but they do manage a significant chunk of nasty bugs through predation, and we would be over run without them.

It isn't the population, it's the garbage the population use... Stuff that comes from the ground and probably should be left in the ground. I gather it's down there for a reason.

The targets are nearly endless.

Climate change, you say? There has always been climate change. It was true before we got here, and will be true long after we are gone. Debating that issue, while almost completely ignoring the others, is a huge waste of time.

Yes tired of the climate change (caused by humans) debate but co2 is also a cause the oceans are dying and how many living beings are there (still)? oh those don't matter?

Also with climate change big animals have it much harder, they can't move when the climate changes dramatical to colder or warmer parts of this planet mostly as in the past (we humans use most of the land area and they can't go there..), and so is a big reasons big animals can't cope in the near future.

So just saying forget climate change (caused by humans) is kinda foolish when we want to do something to stop the next big exinction.
But we people will face the same thing as well later on so when that happens how sadly that may sound there is hope again for other species..

There is enough planet for all the humans on it if we were just smarter about the things we do. We tend to take the fast, easy, selfish, and profitable ways instead, allowing that to rule instead of what is best for the planet and everyone and everything on it.

As I've stated numerous times on these boards, its to do with where one lives. If you live in the Cities like me, they are over-populated and Nature & Wildlife is near non-existant (something I'm not happy about) but if you live out in the Suburbs, you aren't noticing the loss of Nature & Wildlife! Also while most people are stuck at work 24/7 they don't notice the difference and by the time they wake up, it will be too late.

Where I live, I've noticed a massive drop in Birds. There used to be so many flying around but now because of all these buildings and concrete, its all disappeared or disappearing. Hedgehogs are another animal which has disappeared. Foxes are also in decline. But the Birds are what I've noticed of late, I went to my nearest forest just last Sunday to check and sure enough all I heard were Rooks, Blackbirds, Crows, Magpies and I didn't see any of the smaller birds which used to be flying around. Maybe I didn't stay long enough but for the time I spent there, I did expect to see more. In the Local park area all I see there are Ducks & Geese in the small lake and I noticed one sparrow in a bush. All the insects have near enough disappeared although we still get spiders & flies but as for Snails, Ants, Worms.. they are gone and that means the Spiders & Flies aren't getting their food. Oh, I forgot about the Bee's & Wasps... they are definately in decline.

I'm afraid the blame is on most of us... we have taken too much from the Earth and we are seeing the results. The Governments want more people, more buildings, more MONEY and don't care at all for the Earth.

You're tired of the climate change debate but you say in this OP that humans are responsible for these animal die-offs. How are the two not hand in hand? How is man responsible for extinctions, yet, not a change in climate?

IMO, it's all the same debate...man is F'ing up this world no matter what way you want to look at it.

Very sad.

There is no stopping, at least in the short term, a reduction in global biodiversity due to human needs.

Consequently, there needs to be a serious review of threatened species management.

We need to look after our non-human friends that we share this planet with, I'd like to think there is a way for human development and our friends to exist in unison - one species existing at the expense of the other(s) is just not on.

Flagged, although sad.

I respectfully disagree. It is our interference, our belief that we are superior both physically and intellectually and better than "God" or nature that has CAUSED this. The last thing Earth and its creatures need is more of us. No...I'm not going to go on spewing how we are a parasite...that is kind of obvious.

What I will offer is this. We are destroying everything including ourselves. We won't survive forever and it will be by our own hands. The best thing we could do for ourselves and the rest of nature is strip ourselves of technology, machines and "things" and go back to living in caves. As we all know, we are just animals. And what we are today...is not what we were designed/evolved to be.

We followed the wrong path long ago and continue down that road. While I'm not making any plans to put away my computer, TV, etc...I also understand that I am addicted to convenience and technology to the point that I'm contributing to our demise. The only way we will survive, and the rest of life on this Earth also, is a disaster that kicks us back hundreds of years (at least).

Don't get me wrong...I don't want that, I don't hope for that and I am definitely not a prepper. But I know it is true.

It is NOT human persons who are "growing and consuming everything," it's the corporate persons who are gobbling everything in their path.

Well taking into consideration that humans are nothing but another pesky parasite species in earth we will be in the list of extinction so a better, more productive and ecofriendly species will replace us, remember how many species had come to be and gone before we got here.

How about that.

I agree but it still doesn't stop people indulging in their crap... They only provide it, the masses are the ones who consume it or use it. We can't entirely blame them, we need to start with ourselves and put them out of business.

Do you know how many "products" - including "food products" - end up in landfills because they don't sell?! ...But yeah, agreed, we need to put them out of business. The system doesn't work for us our our planet - a few guys at the top of the pyramid pocket big cash but the rest take it up the keister.

You know I been sarcastic, but I also stand behind the issue that we humans are nothing but another species in earth, perhaps with more brains but we don't know how to use it, special, we are not when it comes to the animal kindom.

Yes we as a species must lower our numbers and control our wasteless use of resources. We must sculpt the population by using diseases and cancers to whittle down the population. Everyone must become vegan and fast once a week. We must get away from oil consumption and stop using automobiles and from now on walk everywhere so there will be no obese people. We must no longer use electricity. Instead candles will be used at night and we will make soy paper fans to cool ourselves. Religion shall be replaced by the worship of the state, fused with nature worship. We shall believe only in materialism and Darwinism. We shall believe without question everything that scientists tell us and accept it as canon. Then, only then, do the animals have a chance.......

I'm pretty good at this.

Thank you for the insightful article.
