Why can't Jon Stewart get his opinion across without swearing.

He's a mental midget.

You think you could match with with him? I'd pay to see that.

I would make the attempt without using profanity.

ATS frowns on profanity and I get my point across or is it now allowed?

The Daily Show isn't ATS. And I'd still like to see you match wits with him. Seriously, you know it would be highly unfair. So much for the "mental midget".

I wouldn't.

I'm SO glad I have never gotten into the Israel discussions here on ATS! Jon Stewart is right. You can't bring up the name without someone thinking you're "criticizing" Israel... And so what if I am? I have the right to criticize anyone I want.

Silly Crazy!

I love Jon Stewart. I think he made his statement perfectly.

Sure Jon Stewart is clever but not intelligent.

How many people are on his staff? One on one....any day any time I would love to debate with Mr Stewart.

I wouldn't waste my money, but if he could match wits with Rumsfeld now there's a money maker, and some would be mine. Or anybody of power and not throw softballs, like he did with Hillary.

So, here in America were looking at, 'minorities', muslims, lesbian/ gay people, to name the most taboo ones.
You can't criticize them with certain slurs for sure. I think most Americans as a whole know where not to go.
So that means those people are the true rulers of society?
That quote is ridiculous for this OP

He graduated right down the street from me at William & Mary with a psychology degree. He is no dummy. How smart he is I don't know but W&M doesn't put out knuckleheads. I had this debate in comparison to Mark Levin the other day, some people are too emotional to be rational. Just because you're a fan doesn't make him the most intelligent.

The thing that struck me about this was the emotional reactions just like here on ATS when it rages on one side or the other. That was interesting. I would have thought they were reading from some of the threads. But I know for sure some in the media read things here, I have seen obscure things written with a flare that is not common and in a few days I hear it somewhere in the MSM. Too coincidental to be anything else to many times. I always do a double take. I wonder if anyone else has noticed that. Stewart is very witty.

If threads on ATS are any judge, minorities, Muslims, lesbians/gays get plenty of criticism. There is no taboo!

I suggest you make up a scathing thread criticizing Jews and see what happens.

Right, just like Israel.. Validating my post, that quote from Voltaire is ridiculous for the thread..

Jon Stewart was very balanced in his skit.
He got nailed for bringing up Israel.
Then he got nailed for bringing up the Palestinians/Hamas.
He couldn't even get a word about about either without a chowder-head screaming at him.
That was a very accurate skit.
Here at ATS, many on BOTH SIDES act like that

Make a thread nailing Israel ... and you get nailed right back. Make a thread nailing Hamas ... and you get nailed right back. Make a statement that both sides are wrong ... and then get nailed by both sides because you don't see things 100% like they do. It's abject stupidity.

Watching Jon Stewart is like watching the great Carnac/Carson give a deadpan look to the audience. Both masters at The Deadpan, they always let the audience interpret it, and it comes out without a need for words as the audience roars. Same as in this skit. He says one word, deadpans to the camera and voilà. In the meantime, his accusers in Israel and the US cannot ever claim that he didn't try to bring it up, and to me, that's the brilliant part.

can I use #ing and asshole and whatever I want in my response / thread?

First of all, he's not on ATS, second, his one swear word that I noticed, was censored. Third, saying a swear word or even multiple swear words is not an indication of mental abilities.

If you find it distasteful or you personally do believe it is an accurate indication of mental ability, that's your opinion and I respect it. But don't go all ad hominem and call him a "mental midget". What you did is much much worse than what he did. You can accomplish much good AND bad, without swearing. You just blatantly resorted to a logical fallacy (actually two in my opinion but I'm talking about the ad hominem attack) while attempting to accuse someone else of a diminished mental ability. I hope you realize the low standards you hold yourself to are not generally welcome among present company because we all see right through it.

There's nothing terrible about it, we've all been there, but I hope that someone would point it out to me when I make a similar error so that I may have the opportunity to better myself.

Jon Stewart Learns What Happens When You Criticize Israel

It was both .... he got nailed for criticizing Israel and then he got nailed for criticizing the Palestinians. "self hating jew" for criticizing Israel and 'Zionist pig' for criticizing the Palestinians/Hamas. EXACTLY the kind of mindless crap that goes on here at ATS.

Not really mindless, some of us hope to sway the fence sitters, then we also like to spread awareness of the ...umm... Problems over in Palestine.
It seems it works in this here information age, killing women and children is usually frowned upon by the world.
The student brigade is getting carpal tunnel keeping up with criticism over the murders as they push out the propaganda.
There is proof of what I suggest, the news has reached the John Stewart show!

One could argue that he single handed shut down CNN's Crossfire.

Mental midget is not a good descriptor IMHO.

I like Jon Stewart and he nailed it perfectly.
Comedy is often the only weapon to confront difficult issues as it has licence to hold up a mirror to human ridiculousness. Which is usually at the root of conflict.

An interesting post, but it would be more interesting if you would elaborate on just whom you think the rulers said society (USA given the context of the vid) are - presumably a group whom the populace are not allowed to criticise. Are you suggesting that the USA is run by a cabal of Israelis, Zionists or some-such?

I cant help but feel that you may have been misinterpreted (and ofc you may correct me) and clarity would be helpful.

I think by "not permitted to criticize", Voltaire actually meant NOT PERMITTED to criticize. Here in the US, we are permitted to criticize anyone. Society may not like it, there may be consequences, but we are most certainly permitted to criticize everyone.
