Every show, old and new. Over~weight Red-Necks. Through and through.
The Duck show, The Storage locker show, The pawn shop show, The Moonshine show, and now some Joker named Smo.
-who the hell is Smo and why the heck do Fat Red~Necks get so many damn reality shows>?

Is being an overweight redneck with attitude stylish these days or something?

Just an observation

*Astrix because yes, I do realize that most of them are far from reality.

I think it is getting this way for one reason and one reason alone. Obama.
Its to keep all the other overweight rednecks happy so they don't go out and join the Tea Party.

(smiley faces all around so everybody knows I'm joking)

You watch too much television. Move to the South and spend a little time in bars. It is way better entertainment.

It's how the TV executives think the rest of the population see red-necks. There was just a recent discussion on another forum about TV shows. The red necks preferred all those shows like "The A Team", "McGyver", "Airwolf", "The Highwayman".

Omg what a ridiculous answer. Yea lets blame Obama for TV programming. My god let it go! He's president, deal with it. Why do people blame him for everything? Obama has nothing to do with the trash on TV. It's been there long before he came along.

I'm no Obama lover but I don't blame him for everything wrong in the world.

OP TV sucks! I can't stomach half the crap on there. I don't have cable and only see current tv when I am at my moms. I use Netflix and Amazon for viewing as well as YouTube so I don't see these shows.

The only answer I can think if is TRAIN WRECK. they make good train wrecks and people seem to love that crap.

The reality show producers know exactly who their demographic is. For the redneck shows it's rednecks, for the scantilly clad babe shows it's rednecks. In fact the reality show producers live by the H L mencken quote....Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

Production houses don't gamble with executive producers money. Every bean is counted and the sponsors are already in place before anyone presses the red button on the camera and the redneck smiles that goofy grin.

IATSE here...I help make em.

Think you need to check terry's post as you may have been quicker then the edit

As far as the OP goes,
I think this argument can be made about many stereo-types on tv, it is what ever sells and I guess down south tv shows are the in right now.
And when you talk about the pawn shop guys, are you talking about pawn stars? Those guys are from vegas, far from red neck IMO.
And Big Smo aint all that bad, not sure why he has a show I'll agree but I'll also say don't knock the hustle and let the man make some money

Or Waffle House. It's like white trash dinner theater...er.. maybe in this case, "diner theater."

Let's not forgot the cast of Mountain Monsters.

Every episode they are dead serious about how they're "investigating" and intent on trapping that week's mythical Appalachian monster.

The topic of this post is so succinct, it made me laugh.

I always thought that it was due to the massive influx of reality TV after the writer's strike that happened so long ago; I always thought that the influx of somewhat education deprived peoples (How's that for PC?) was due to the world getting savvy to how much reality TV stars get trashed by the public, not for their 'character's' doings, but for who they really are.
Some people don't understand the fame game, I guess, and sign on anyway.

Oh the list goes on and on.

Big chubby jerks with big pick ups and big mouths.

Totally embraces the "Live Big Screw the environment" attitude that's wrecking the world/society.

I don't see the appeal of "Duck Dynasty". Every episode is the same.

I'm sure you already know it's as far from "reality" as you can get. The shows are scripted, cast, shot and edited with a tried and true formula. The "talent" is given some leeway for improvisation but not much. This is the first one I ever worked on. Pure BS....contrived, rehearsed, scripted with a huge crew [babysitters, teachers etc.] and a bunch of kid actors mainly from LA chosen for their looks. It was a pretty successful show.
