Quite understandably so. We still murder one another over differing beliefs and ideology. We create technology detrimental to the very bio-sphere that gives us life. What sane race in the Universe - would want us - humans - out there in their galactic neighborhood?

Finding our planet would be one of the ultimate needle in a haystack finds. We are minuscule blue orb orbiting an average star in a nondescript part of the galaxy.
All true, but we are looking in our neighborhood for other life. Would they not first study the stars nearer to them, so if life is abundant out there and any of the nearest stars has advanced life, they may well have found us without to much effort at all.
We are just starting to be able to see the neighbors with planets we have barely reached tech stage, look back to the horse and buggy...not far back!

Hebrews 13:2
" Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
Indicates we are somewhat interesting.

In fact the only way possible they are not here is if we are only intelligent race or faster than light travel is impossible.
One additional possibility:
3. We are not interesting enough.

Best send their kind here, to monitor and manipulate and even in the end eradicate us - if it's deemed necessary for the protection of the rest of the Universe. I know if I was of a superior race of ET - looking in at humanity - I would.
Watch, wait, and weigh the worth of having us -humans - out there traveling the Universe. If they are among us - I think we are on much more dangerous ground - than we realize.

Maybe they were just trying to get out of paying. I mean hippies are not the richest people lol...

I don't think they were hippies even though the were dressed like that. They were well groomed and smelled like lavender soap not patchouli....
An alien race thats a million years more advanced than us (easily possible they could be a billion years more advanced) would most certainly have a very full catalog, and they'd more than likely have conquered the distance problem.
