Hello my large brained friends at ATS,

Wonder if any of you would be up for a challenge and be able to help me solve this puzzle?

Nothing mysterious or conspiracy related just a local quiz club


If wanted I can give some clues to the first section but am stuck after that




Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions??

so is it like a grid pattern where 7, 1 is E......

no matter how i try to calculate 7, 1 I don't come up with E using a grid.

That was my big contribution to the puzzle haha.

lol. I know the feeling took a while to get that. I will be back in a few hours to post the solution to the first section if no one else has come up with it by then. After that I am at your mercy. Main clue would seem to be that it all has a very Roman twist.

Grid is missing the letters U and J

When I look at it as a word search I find PUZZLE (7 line across) if you replace the V with a U, along with SATURN (13 line down)
I also see MOAB PLANET ROME RING. Not sure if any of that is intentional or coincidence.

Are there Roman numerals involved

P is the 16th letter of alphabet
L is the 12th letter of alphabet
A is the 1st letter of alphabet
N is the 14th letter of alphabet
E is the 5th letter of alphabet
T is the 20th letter of alphabet

SATVRN
U (a U s/b where the V is so the alphabet becomes as u see below)

You could be on the right track or way off, I have no idea myself on that half of the puzzle. The first section, I will now say, is based on roman numerals. i.e (3,2) > gets you to XXXV OR 35 work your way through all those and you get North East co-ords!
how that all works with the second half I just have no idea at this point...

Did I get these correct ?

XXXV = 35
CCCXCVX = 405
XCVIII = 98
XI = 11
IVX = 14
IPL = 449 (not sure about the P, found info online that P = 400 ?)
IIQ = 498 or 498,000 (found info online that Q is 500 or 500,000 ?)
XII = 12

The first section is

XXXV = 35
DCCCXCV = 895
XCVIII = 98
IX = 9
that is the North co-ordinate

XIV = 14
LI = 51
- = 0 from the table
VII = 7
XII = 12

That is the East co-ordinate. Should get you to Valletta. Capital of Malta.

From the second section I am rather lost.

(5,2) seems to point to PLVSXV or Plus 15 but what that means I don't know..
It seems to be more of a crossword maybe?

Other full words I found in the jumble are;

Plus
Puzzle
Ceaser
Colliseum
Saturn
Planet
Ring

Does any of that get anyone closer?

Ok wow I was a bit off on some of those numbers. I had to re-teach myself how to calculate the numbers... lol
Like when to subtract, if a smaller roman numeral appears in front of a larger... I'm not surprised some of my numbers were off.

Will look at more of the puzzle later.

Our Lady Of Victories Chapel
Triq Nofsinhar
Il-Belt Valletta
Malta

The second part of that puzzle is really starting to annoy me. There seems to be no correlation with the first part of the puzzle.(do they actually belong together or are they seperate puzzles?)

Oh I also got "mozart" in that jumble....

Oh well....on with the puzzle.

And well it might! We seem to have a breakthrough. This required feet on the ground who now have gone to investigate the church and found a plaque on the side that would be the key to the second section! Am currently waiting for a photo that I will post here ASAP.
