If you could be born in a time, and be apart of any civilization, great or small, which one would it have been?

Mine is simple - Son, either with this or on this

Ancient Rome (Caesar Augustus) or Greece (Alexander the Great). I don't know why but they just seem like very interesting times in early recorded history.

Ancient Scotland
Im blessed enough to have been born in Edinburgh full of a lot of great history and now live in the Highlands 2 minutes walk from Culloden battlefield, 10 minutes drive to Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle. I have visited some fantastic and beautiful parts of my own country so close to my own doorstep and would have liked to witness it unspoiled in all it's simplicity. Living was pretty dirty, hard and violent but isn't most of history?

Early 19th century British, not so much for the Civ but for the opportunity to be an explorer and having the ability to be the first to so many unknown (at that time) civilizations.....

...a second & third choice would be the Jomon of Japan and the Norse colonists of Greenland.

Well I loved the early 1900s but as far as ancient civilizations. I would love to have been around during the time Puma Punku was built.

A hobbit in the 3rd agd. We don't care for the coming and going of man. Our hearts ly in fresh tilled soil and the brewing of ale's.

I'd go right back to the start...to the pivotal moments in our species history that made us what we are today.

For instance, the ancients that made the wheel, domesticated livestock, and so forth. Was it observation, ingenuity or maybe...intervention?

This very moment!
I always romanticized the crusades and how wonderful life must have been for the brainwashed masses who actually believed that "God wills it"!
Until I realized that history repeats itself and this current crusade is the greatest one yet!
God shave the king!

I don't understand what that means. Can you explain?

I wouldn't want to be a part of previous civilizations. I see no indication how being a woman would have been a pleasant experience in the past.

Why would I want to go back to be property sold off to the highest bidder?

I have books, internet, some freedom(well more than I would have back then anyway), and a great girlfriend.

I will stay right here thank you.

There were plenty of times and places where women had all of that and more. This isn't the only enlightened period of human history.

There have been female rulers!
There were also male slaves.
Some men actually loved, revered and protected women, some still do.
I know of one at the very least.
But I do see your point, tolerance was not exactly first class back when as far as I know.
My choice too was modern day here and now.

I haven't seen any indication of a truly egalitarian society where women were able to pursue personal interests(not just upper class women). Show me an example and I will be interested in researching it further.

From what I have seen women up until recently have existed primarily for baby creation and child care. There have been a few outliers that fought the system so to speak but it was certainly not the doing of said civilization.

That'd be cool if they were real.

Sounds like a lesbian paradise. LOL

If we are going off fictional societies then I want to live in Wonder Woman's Amazonian civilization.
