"Actually the burkha keeps you cool, more cool than shorts and a tee-shirt, and you do not get a sun burn from it. There is a reason for it you know, muslims dont just make their women wear the robes out of spite. They wear them to keep from arousing lust in men, lust that can lead to rape."

Have you worn one in 100 degree weather? My mother has, and had quite a bit to say about it....
The only reason that they are "cooler", just as other arab garb, is due to the fact that they get drenched with sweat. Sure, it's cooler, but at a cost of smelling to high heaven of BO... And you can doubt it all you want, but I lived it...
As for the arousing bit, you are essentially correct, but let me tell ya...most of those women have nothing to worry about as far as rape goes....

xaos, maybe not where you come from but here, in the US, ID's are checked often. Alcohol, cigarette purchases, getting into a club. Bank transactions, writing a check. Given the license is valid ID, I can see all sorts of fraud here.

I dont think you have anything to worry about because a good muslim who wears a veil is not going to smoke drink or go clubbing.

As for the mask law, that has to be BS, what about halloween, what about those with bandages on their face. A mask can be easily removed for ID, but on the other hand a veil should not be.

Gaz, have you ever thought about why most people in hot countries wear robes rather than a loincloth. Not for the sweat factor, that would just be dumb. In a robe, with openings at the top and bottom a breeze is established by the heat in the robe rising to be replaced by cool air.

And as for the lust part, the Islam is very strict about ones actions. You are not as free as in America. Women are not allowed to wear revealing clothing because it is not their choice. Most of you here are conservative, tell me, why are drugs illegal? So we do not hurt ourselves? According to your logic regarding the burkha, it should be our choice on whether or not we want to hurt ourselves. Instead the government is making our decisions for us. Same with the robes. Islam makes the decision for women so that no one rapes them. And Gaz, have you ever seen an arab woman. Some of the best

Well, in my personal opinion, if someone wants to wear a garment that's there business. What you want to do at home or at work or whatever is your own problem. However for ID purposes this changes.
We aren't dogs. We identify by the look of the face. Not the smell of the ass etc. PHOTO ID. If the photo shows a pair of eyes and nothing more, that would defeat the purpose I'm sure.

Our society does things a certain way. If you don't want to abide by those things maybe it's because you have something to hide. Afraid to be identified? What are you planning on doing? Maybe instead of a license photo this person should have to give a dna swab. My main point here is that this is the United States of America and we do not want a precedent to be set to allow large groups of unidentifiable ghosts to be floating through society.

Scene from an airport. A veiled woman walks up to the counter to pick up her boarding pass. The airline employee seeing the veil and being a good politically correct citizen doesn't dare to ask for ID. The tickets are given, an hour later the plane boards. Another hour later a loud boom is heard overhead.

I'm not saying THIS woman is bad at all. But think of the precedent this is going to allow. No license photo? Well then no passport photos either damnit. Any criminal could just pretend to be muslim and never have to present ID again. Not gonna happen people. I will personally organize protests against any elected official who supports this.

more of a dry heat... Heck, in the 2 1/2 years I was there, it only rained for 3 days, and that was quite a storm. It even hailed! Man, the arabs were going nuts! Many thought the end was near!
Not sure which year, but some time between 1982 and 1984...

Wait, lust to rape? So have to cover themselves so they aren't raped? BULL SH*T!!!!

A woman can wear what ever they want! They shouldn't have to worry about rape, for it is wrong. Just because some a$$ decides he wants what she isn't giving doesn't mean she should cover up, it means the guy should have his dick cut off. Bet one would think twice about raping someone if their dick was on the line.

It is never the womens fault, it doesn't matter if she wears a string bikini and comes on to the guy, if she doesn't want to have sex, she doesn't want it. It is called freedom. If this sh*t happens, then men need to learn to control themselves. Sure I've seen some women I'd love to have, but if they don't want to, doesn't happen.

With the topic, she should be shot for stupidity. Yes, I believe stupidity should be illegal, well, extreme stupidity. Like someone who shoots his foot off to see what it would feel like. Or a woman who wants to wear a mask in a ID picture. Then can i wear a ski mask? Or can I just get a picture of my back? Probably better ID then someone with a mask on.

And that is a law. Halloween can get away with it because it is Halloween. Try wearing a mask into a 24/7 store, you won't be allowed to. Or WalMart, or a government building.

Is she planning on driving while wearing the veil?? I have seen through them, they do distort your vision some and the really limit your peripheral vision, some to the point of not being able to see to the sides at all. I believe that could be considered a driving hazard.

K_OS

My thought exactly. When you drive you need a full, unblocked view of everything going on around you. If she drives with the veil on, she is not only endangering herself but also other drivers and pedestrians. If her religion doesn't allow her to remove the veil then she should understand that she can't drive a car.

I say balls to her. Not only should she take the veil off for the license but it should be law that she takes it off when she drives her vehicle.
I know that if my car was hit by a white guy wearing a blindfold I would get out and beat the crap out of him. It's got bugger all to do with religion. It's damn common sense. If this woman can't see that then she's probably too mentally impaired to deserve a driving license in the first place.
Personally, I detest her for the stand that she is taking. Yet again somebody is challenging our system in the name of religion when it's not the religion but the person who is at fault.

Um, wouldnt it be nice if all guys could control our feelings as well as you and me, but some guys cannot. I do not think that it is not their fault for raping someone, but drugs are illegal for the same reason revealing clothing is in arabia. Should we just legalize PCP and trust it to someones good nature that they dont abuse it (just felt like taking a conservative side for once
). Hmmm....

as to why revealing clothing is forbidden is giving them far too much credit. The real reason isn't to guard against rape... It's because women are treated like property, and it's the husband's priveledge alone to see her naked flesh... Not that I agree...heck, I want my sweetie to show off some skin, but thems the facts jack...

is correct, you guys should know about what your talking about befor you assume every culture has the same idealogies as the good ole US of A. As a matter of fact in ythe middle east, if a woman does get raped, she is the one who is punished. Her brothers and possibly father will be required to kill her, because in thier mind set, if she was raped by someone they see it as she is the one in the wrong. The middle easterners are an odd bunch, soldiers have been known to rape the fathers in front of the families and then execute him! I dont recommend getting on thier bad sides.

So when a man rapes another man in prison, is it the raped man's fault for turning the other guy on? When a woman rapes a man, is it also the man's fault for turning her on too much? In both examples, do they deserve to be raped or killed for being interpreted as promiscuous?

I thought we were talking about robe wearing with a view women driving cars in america?

And rape is wrong HERE in the USA so if someone did they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Besides I thought She can't drive in Saudi Arabia... I thought I read women don't drive there and if they do they must have their husbands permission something like that.

True, what one does behind closed doors ,is their buisness, but Law is Law, and all should abide by the same principles.......

Whether one is poor or rich, small or big.....

Everyone does have a choice .....if that choice is to follow your religion, then do so......
The law is for everyone ,and one should not make changes to suit themselves!

Women in 'Muslim' countries go with 'Muslim' rules.......
And so in other countries with certain laws....they should abide by those laws...

There was a case here a few days ago about having ''pork'' sandwiches not allowed at council meetings....because of the 'Muslim'' community.......
If one does not eat 'pork'' one does not eat it.....why should there be changes made to suit certain members of the community?
If one is vegetarian and chooses not to eat meat, then it is their chose to do so......why should there be changes made to suit each individual.......

""Hey, i dont want to pay taxes! ""
I worked and therefore all money is myn......are the laws any different ???
No, all people (well most) do follow the law .......breaking the law has consequences.......

If one does not like it, then one does not associate themselves with that........if it is law to show your face for a licence, then it is law for all......Except for bank robbers!!!
(otherwise they would get caught ! )

So if when you are raped, you get killed, you are going to do whatever you can to keep from getting raped right? I mean, whatever precaution you could take would be taken right?

"Besides I thought She can't drive in Saudi Arabia... I thought I read women don't drive there and if they do they must have their husbands permission something like that."

When I was in Saudi, women couldn't drive, period. Recently though, they were given the right to drive, as long as their husband grants permission, via a form. Unmarried women, to my knowledge, are still not permitted to drive, but it's been a few years since I checked....

Well, not suprised by that one. I just can't get the rape argument presented here. No one said ahe couldn't wear it to drive only to not have a pic made for her permit. I've never heard of anyone being raped at the DMV (literally) but dying of old age..maybe.

Never heard of that happening there either. But still, a woman can dress how she wants. If a guy want some, ask, if she says no, leave her alone, if she does, PARTY TIME!!!!

But still, saying it is the woman's fault because of a way she dressed is bs. Or because she flirted with the person, or because she asked him to come to a certain club later on. It is the guy's fault period! Kinda like you run a red light and hit someone. Is it there fault to expect you of stopping at a red light? No, it isn't there fault."Well they should have looked both wayhs then waited for me to run it, then gone through, so there fault". That is bs, and so is"She came on to me, her fault".

And with the topic, good. Guess what? Mauslim women aren't suppose to wear makeup, yet she does! Showed in court of her putting make up on. If she was such a good mauslim woman that she couldn't get her ID without her viel on, why was she wearing make up? Even better, her husband had 8 different driver liscences. Suspicious?
