Thanks for your valuable business information...it does seem like a daunting task to get a business off the ground and running.

My sister who has been doing her own personal home renovations - I mean tear down load bearing walls and lifting houses off rotten foundations - for decades is now looking for a job, so I suggested she start her own reno consulting business.

In discussing formulating said business I mentioned starting with word-of-mouth from her reno/construction contacts and putting flyers on people's cars at places like Home Depot but that is soliciting and frowned upon here - so how does one get the message out? This has always been my problem with the online business I tried to get off the ground - Marketing...ugh!

Having suggested she take a photoshop CS course so as to show her perspective clients before and after pics, she now wants to hire me as the photoshop person (because I already took the course), which I may enjoy doing as a sideline.

How does one get the word out besides the steps I mentioned above? Don't we want to get the message out to as many people as possible?

Ok, Doke. This is more proof right here, that ATS is compromised. When I first started coming to this website 4 years ago it was completely different. Bull# like this would have been deleted. This is just idiotic crap meant to stir up pointless banter. This person, though I love and accept all beings as they want to be, is a moron, and this type of post shouldn't be allowed. Nor should about 80% of the posts I've been seeing lately. What Happen!? Has this site been infiltrated or something? What happen to denying ignorance? What happen to intelligent people who don't believe the bull# taught by the majority of mainstream news and information outlets having a website where WE could exchange information and ideas as to the true nature of the world. The TRUTH! I see people who theorize getting bashed and their theories picked apart because they don't have references from media outlets considered viable, yet many of the media outlets that seem to be trusted as viable sources are the very outlets this site was created to weigh in on. To be the alternative to! Can anyone point me to a better website that still has a good filter. ATS has never been perfect by any means. But now that I have to weave through about 5 popups and be seeing ads for guns while I'm reading an article about John Holmes' true story; I'm thinking new news site. Right? So please, give me one. Although maybe too blunt for people raised in capitalism, and expressed by someone where English is a second (or third) language, the OP has a point. Capitalism has flaws... and we are just beginning to live them in the Western world as new resources become scarce.... and more formerly comfy people are on the losing end of the equation.

Marx was not an idiot. Planned societies (meaning planned resource distribution) are not necessarily evil and do not necessarily enforce conformity.

Some of the "bad" aspects of communism come from the brutal answer to the question "how do we make this work?" Well, that and the problem of human nature where those at the top forget the ones that are not... but that happens in all govts. and must be fought with a free press at the least.

A mix of socialism/communism/free enterprise seems the logical next step for society. A society's primary job is to ensure the physical welfare of all its' members. At least I believe so.

Things new today have chips. I say an included extra chip is placed there to bestow a shut down just after the warr is up, seems that way does it not? People so set into buying New Look Good Stuff yet knowing the money came from the bank could be gone tomorrow. Explains why people will go to work in the Worst Weather all the time. Should stay home, be safe and relax.

Funny system we call Freedom, can go wherever, do whatever yet you Own Nothing! Might own something yourself, although papers seem to disapear, rezonings happen to pop up and strange forest fires that afterwards after the burn. Town are Built.

This computerized society is causing less jobs. We will soon all be poor, with the exception of a few people programming or working at top levels in the government. Poor people do not need roads, they can't afford cars. It seems a few at the top will be the only ones with money once again. Just like it is in other countries. We will learn to eat the weeds to survive and eat chipmunks and squirrels. We can all get chickens to share our little tiny shacks made of recycled stuff. I see the beginning of the end. Next step is to get the money out of the hands of the middle class so they will also do whatever the ones on top want.

I'm an entrepreneur and currently own and operate 3 businesses; 1 retail, 1 manufacturing, and one service oriented.
All my business are thriving and I'm hiring new employees.

However I will not be hiring any crybabies, whiners or people playing the victim card. Either cowboy up and prepare to get your hands dirty or move along.

and before you get all high and mighty on me....I also hold down a part time union jbb myself. Take some personal responsibility!!!

First. Plan on having Insurance just in case something happens later. It will save ones @ss! Then the hard part, free work! It seems many are doing just that these days, find new ones everyday at the yard. Hear the stories too!

There are free listings out there like Nex-Tect although I live in nowhere land USA. Since listing it in the paper is pointless and flyers will end up getting one in trouble. Can go about it another way. While doing the Lumber Yard Game, seem many do ask Who is able to work. All are filled, backloged and can not take more jobs.

So hire some good kids to pass out Business Cards outside them stores with their name on the back so you know who to pass afew extra bucks later too. Even place offers on different ones saying 25% off work done. Now this could be a problem since many will go out and call many others comparing prices so do tend to consider how it might cost later down the road.

Or since she can Move houses, or has the equ anyways. Find a house out there someone wants taken away for free, fix it up and resale the House. So many DIY workers out there, most go to YT watch 1 or 2 videos and think it can be done that easy. Thanks TV. My bathroom is kicking my @ss because of this! Found all kinds of stuff Covered Up when it would have been smarter to fix it while the wall were gone in the first place! It takes some skill in finding this stuff while redoing a house. Never miss out on something that should have been done in the first place. Extra work for you, plus your work will not get ruin or badmouthed later due to errors someone else did.

Cards would be the most effective since cheap and one could spend a few days doing it themselves. Cards are small so people will more then likely place them in their pockets, plus the fact one is at Home Depo thinking I can DIY when most haven't a clue anyways. So you get a quick paint job, some small repairing, make money just don't screw them and word will get out for the bigger jobs.

Most do not bother with the small fry, again too Good for that idea creates an opening for your company. So one couple is 80 and have very little money. make them happy, and Words will come out of their mouths like a small god. Their is a gap in all this, computers were not in school when I was there. So 40 and above just might not even bother using them. Younger age thats all they know so know everything lol

Find ways outside normal thinking and not only are you a step ahead. Your mind becomes open for ideas to start flowing vs. lock into How it is done. Of Course next week could change everything so add that to the list also. People want Change, yet never do they want Change to happen to them. Take your sis, now what? I myself have a flaw, do something for 3-5yrs and switch to something New. Better to know at least 4 different kinds of jobs then just one type of work.

The ones who say There are no jobs! Only do this because they know nothing else, are lazy, knowing one have to start at the bottom undermind their Ego. My work history has no gaps since 12yrs old. Although have had at least 10 jobs lasting over 3 yrs. I leave a job quickly if its lame, no one has a clue, nothing but a paycheck. Why work if you can not learn? Might not be the Greatest, yet if all else fails. I can always fall back to something I once did, or go total new using all of them together.

Never discount the stupid simple jobs! Might bring you a mega job later down the road. To watch yourself though, have everything on PAPER, Signed and be ready for the scams people play. Look the job over first, get a feel of who one might be working for. Walk Away if something seems out of place, questions having no answere, shifting their story, get the point?

Money spent on infrastructure will for the most part stay in the US and fund many start up entrepreneurs. Roads and power grids are way overdo for an overhaul. How much money do you think a business losses if the power is out for a day or two?

No the government isn't going to turn profits the same way a business does but they are charged with maintaining and upgrading the infrastructure of the nation because without it there wouldn't be many businesses in the US that would be able to keep operating. One can't survive without the other.

I live in the middle of England the birthplace of the industrial revolution they called it the black country due to the soot and smoke from all the heavy industry choking the air and blackening the landscape.

Now the all that industry is gone the factories have been flattered and turned into housing estates all those jobs have gone to China its hard to get your hands dirty and work your ass off if your employment opportunities have been shipped off thousands of miles away.

I don’t wake up anymore and hear the thudding of forge hammers in the distance or see the smoke from the stacks at the copper refinery drifting across the sky but the people are still here and they are crying out for jobs but I’m afraid the communists do things cheaper and the capitalists like it that way the unemployed here just have to try and survive from day to day and yes sometimes they cry.

Its easy to sit there and complain about what you perceive as "crying babies" when all the jobs that are being lost here in the states, well manufacturing jobs at least, are going to your country. China, that is.

So, as an individual, what is it that I should do to help employ myself? Without bitching at government to do something about job creation? Me. Alone.

When corporations stop sending jobs overseas that use to be done here people will stop complaining. When the government stops letting those corporations send American jobs overseas for cheap labor people will stop complaining. America doesn't have a capitalistic system.

Here is the definition of capitalism:

"an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state."

So considering that we in no way have a free market or capitalism in America and half our wages are stolen through taxes every year...I would say asking Mr. Mafia to give you a job ain't too much to ask.

We can start by cutting foreign aid and using that money to fund infrastructure repairs.

Sorry but this money could be infused into our own economy. It would help, when people have money to spend it supports other jobs.

This is only one area where money could come from. I like the idea of some kind of lobbying tax. Corporations spend crazy money lobbying congress. They should be taxed on the money "donated" for a cause. Just an idea, I dont know how it would work or if there already is a tax on such money.

I know that putting people to work should be more of a priority rather than giving money to a rebal faction of some broken country, only to have them use the funds we gave them to inflict damage upon us.

A little common sense on Capitol hill would go a long way in helping create jobs here at home.
