That's some pretty amazing arrow shooting right there! I've never seen anything like it and I definitely wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that kind of onslaught.

F&S for the OP!

That's great I guess - but then in 1.5 seconds he's out of ammo. Unless he has a wheelbarrow full of arrows he hauls around with him. But at that point what does the fast shooting matter? Old time battles weren't over in 10 minutes.

In old time battles they brought wheelbarrows full of arrows. :p

Well... you can just look at our modern rapid fire weaponry to realize the slight flaw in your argument. An A-10 Thunderbolt only got 20 seconds of cannon ammo or so

Of course an ancient archer would carry a quiver. I'm guessing the Mongolians strapped multiple quivers on their horses so they had 60+ arrows or even more. At least that's what I would do if firing that fast, heh.

Either way its quite an awesome video, very skillfull especially considering he actually hits stuff while firing like that too.

Thank you so much for bringing this to the site... fascinating. I think most of us history nerds (and fantasy nerds, too) will love this.

A common meme in our modern culture is to frame older cultures as somehow "primitive" and less clever, when the opposite is true... as with less technology one must be more innovative to live, as well as the fact people have been the same, as far as mental hardware, for thousands of years... perhaps even closer to a million.

I knew that archery was a deadly art and that the bow was a fearsome and amazing weapon... but the speed and accuracy is amazing. I still couldn't see how he held the arrows before feeding them to the string (or see him string the arrow, for that matter).

Cool beans.

The sport of bow fishing has some really fast draws. Not consecutive like this but one shot at a rolling fish will speed up everything.

I have a question: How fast would a person really die from arrows? how many, how fast (yes i realize head/heart shots are clearly more fatal) would an archer really put a man down who perhaps might even be firing his own arrows back at you.

You see people drop instantly from a gun shot, would an arrow do the same?

Obviously its going to be pretty challenge to do very much with arrows sticking in you, but i dont think you would be dead for while, perhaps?

He's good but I would like to see him do the exact same with a 150lb Longbow. Wouldn't be possible though.

What would a Klingon do? Pull more out of the enemy, of course.

No, but a 150lb Longbow is artillery. This is a personal weapon, like a pistol. Different military situations.

Any hit in the chest destroys your chance to draw a bow and retaliate.

Any leg injury means you slow up and are in agony and not able to stand.

Either way, you out of the fight.

Trad bowhunter here. Broadheads open a huge wound channel and cuts with the arrow as it rotates through your lungs ^_^, you hit the chest they aren't going to be shooting anything back at you and without armour even a #45 recurve will go right through you. Then you bleed out in < a minute.

Informative, and I don't smell much B.S. here - it was an impressive and informative video to watch. Lars Anderson is lucky to be studying such fun techniques.

I agree with this assessment. It's a common theme I've read authors bring up at different points in history, even now, with the advancement of personal computers and then smart phones.

In the past, I imagine a time when archery actually has to be used in combat because there are no guns available, and I imagine that the archery culture has been pushed farther because it has more utility.

I can't believe how amazing this guy is, his skills are legendary.

Fantastic video, and love how it matches up movies and even
other fantastic archers to show off how great he is.

I'm a bow hunter. This is something I will have to master and might take over my life in the next couple of years. Thanks for sharing! This is amazing.

This reminds me of the old ATLATL thread as follows:
