What's up with those red things that happens to be on many of the members?

Most of these members have very few points and very few posts and no avatars.

Thought I would share it with you.

Do you have some examples surfup?

A possible reason they dont have many points is because warnings take away points.

This is not exclusive to the new members. Click on them to see what they are for.

Some of them receive warnings all the time and wear them like a badge of honor.

I see them more of an indicator of why the new forums are so badly needed.

Possibly, I thought you lost 250 points for a warning, but these guys usually have under 2000.

In this thread we got Frosty on thread page with a warn and less than 1000 points.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Here we have the infamous Hawkss and Dade...

www.abovetopsecret.com...

That convinced you?

I'm not sure of the purpose of this thread surfup...

...are the applications of the Warns seen as unjust? Or is it drawing attention to the 'newness' of the members who received them? Or just randomly mentioning it in passing??

Is there any specific question in regards to the Warns?

Peace,
ALIEN

Ive seen AND predicted an increase in the # of warns, as more and more segregation of the former mud-pit, then restricted political forum, and now A COMPLEATLY NEW BOARD for political threads has been enacted by ATS staff.

Check out this thread,
www.abovetopsecret.com...
to get a grip on what ATS is efforting along the lines of board control...dealing with speech/warnings...
There is another thread on warning questions but i couldnt find it.

Pay close attention to the last 2 posts (by yours truely) which question things and which have NOT been responded to for almost 3 weeks now by ANY ATS staff.

I remember when those were given out , and it was a particularly vicious day on FredT's thread: www.abovetopsecret.com...

I don't think name calling is necessary to a good debate ,no matter the passions involved.

How exactly have your rights to free speech ben violated here? SOme degree of civility has to be maintainded and the T&C of the board were agreeed to when all of us signed up. ATS is first and foremost a conspiracy board. Speaking for my self that if why I came here in the first place. Im not sure I understand the issue regarding a separate political board? Its not as if you cannot float back and forth between the two as we now do on BTS.

I understand the t+c for ATS, i also as a professional journalist believe in "better" communications thru civillity, but if youve read my posts on the cited thread, you will see i find "intellectual eleitism" a questionable practice as well as devicive and exclusionary....
Just grow a thick skin and skip over troll/flame posts...why restrict the majority of "law abiding" users for the acts of a few? It seems heavy handed, and also not very well defined or enforced (speech questions)
Innocent before guilty? nope, speech has been limited BEFORE its even been uttered,
Thats called prior restraint in journalistic circles....its frowned upon.
besides, you cant deny ignorance unless youve got an example of it....banning, and pushing it out only blinds YOU.
Some of this is rhetorical/ethical questions on communications and NOT a slam to a great site.

and i CANT float back and forth betwen the 2, because MOST of my time online is at work where i cant control the cookie issues or other tech stuff....so im really dreading the new board as now im going to have to float between more open windows....(i usually have 3 open for ATS alone as i cross referance and search)

I'm positive that anyone that gets a warning deserves it. The terms and conditions are laid down for a reason, and if they are violated, there damn well better be repercussions.

I don't understand the purpose of this thread... I'm assuming Surfup is trying to make board-related small talk, since this thread serves no constructive purpose thus far.

In regards to banning, as of late they've been for reasons like spamming- as in the case with the blogs- or for attacks on personal users.

like everyone has been told TIME AND TIME AGAIN, you can say whatever the hell you want. just do it with some tact, and without directly attacking another member.

BTW new members get warns because they're used to lax boards, that type of conduct doesn't fly here. I got my fair share of warns when first here. There's two ways to handle this, either comply with the rules or you get canned.

Unless we make a new announcement on our adapting or changing the T&C or in the way we enforce it. The amount of warns per hour/day/week will depend more than 95% on the behaviour of the members here.

Warnings? I've been here about half a year. I really see no problem. Every time I see one I think of ROAD RAGE. Normal people get fired up and do something dangerous or stupid. I'd like to think the warning is similar to the one a bad driver would get. Am I wrong? Kind of a "Straighten up or pay the consequences" thing.
This is the first board I've joined, and the rules don't seem too cumbersome to me. After all, I agreed to them when I joined. I'm guessing that ATS is sort of life itself. Take some personal responsibility for what you say. Be tactful.

Some of the warns after seen the names I agree that they deserved it they are usually the same and always insulting the ones that disagree with them. Is a pattern and it will not take long until they get banned.

Now you have new members that are just getting to know how to keep themselves in check in the boards, perhaps a littler reading of the ATS board "ethics" will help.

But the ones that have been here for a while and still insult other members are the ones that I wonder about.

And that is just my observation I may be wrong in my views for that I appologized.

In my increasingly frequent complaints of late, one of my greatest concerns is that not only are new members influenced to post in violation of the T&C as a consequence of seeing so many such posts already on the boards, but that the garbage posts already made are encouraging even more trolls to join ATS and contribute to the decline.

In my opinion, the ATS staff is faced with a very serious problem that bears directly on the future of the board. I don't want to see ATS sink into the same quicksand I have seen consume other boards.

I also have my own opinions about how to go about correcting the problem, but recognize that it is much easier for me to be a sideline quarterback than to have to deal with problems like these (and they are only a small part of the many problems facing the staff of any world-class website).

So with respect to ATS, the staff -- especially mods -- and the membership in general, I say:

NUKE THE TROLLS!

Free speech, like freedom, isn't free. It must be earned.

Those who routinely tread on the free speech of others by violating the ATS T&C have no place on this board, and I say good riddance to the lot of them.

If everyone agreed on everything, why would we even bother logging in? We could just sit around and bask in the knowledge that we are all on the same page and life is good.

Yes, you and I disagree on many things, but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with either of us. We are different people living different lives in different places and we have learned different things in life.

If two people as different as us agreed on everything, that would be just plain scary!

The fact that we disagree, even on some very important and serious topics, doesn't mean that we aren't basically both good people. In fact, I have read many of your posts, and based on them, I'm convinced that you are a very good person -- and kind-hearted, as well.

So why on earth would I ever want to insult and slander you on a worldwide discussion forum? We just disagree on some things is all, no need to freak out about it.

There is one form of disagreement I have no tolerance for, and that is when someone signs up for a discussion forum, explicitly promises to abide by the Terms and Conditions established for the forum, then habitually breaks that promise.

The place for that sort of disagreement is somewhere else.

Your kind words are going to make me blush

But you are right again is so many insults is just getting out of hand, I don't mind some heated discussion I even find it exiting, but please keep the insults away we all humans and most of us are just as patriotic as anybody else not matter what country we come from.
