Members of congressional Middle East subcommittee seek clarification over administration’s relations with terror group

Top lawmakers on a congressional Middle East subcommittee want Secretary of State John Kerry to explain his decision to continue dealing with the Palestinian Authority now that it is backed by Hamas.

The leading Democratic and Republican members of the US House of Representatives Middle East subcommittee sent a letter to Kerry Monday seeking an explanation from the Obama administration regarding Hamas, which has been designated by the United States and Israel as a terror organization.

Ros-Lehtinen and Deutch said in the letter that they are ready to convene a hearing on the issue so that the Obama administration can explain how any ongoing relationship would not violate US law, which bans interactions with Hamas. Ros-Lehtinen authored the 2006 law which bans such contacts.

Interesting

Really interesting since according to Clinton's Executive order that is ILLEGAL.

Executive Order 12947—Prohibiting Transactions With Terrorists Who Threaten To Disrupt the Middle East Peace Process

Read the pdf.

Hamas is on that list.

Good catch! Yes, I would say that the document you shared definitely shows the law being broken by the Obama administration... AGAIN!

Yes, good catch by Neo. But...when has breaking the law been a concern of this administration. The ends justify the means of getting there to them.

If that means coddling and financing known terrorists...they don't care.

I predict there will be no panel for Kerry to give an answer to. It's beneath him, you know.

Hamas is a terrorist organization but the Palestinian Authority is not. So if America did have any dealing with the Palestinian Authority it would not be breaking any laws. This is just more whining by the Israeli bootlickers in our government.

I find it odd that the Israeli government is not on that list...they definitely should be.

There are many guilty parties when it comes to disrupting the Middle East peace process but the Zionist extremists within Israel are notorious for freezing the process while blaming the other guy.

Every time Palestine takes a peaceful step towards peace, Israel decides to build 1,500 new settler units.

Shouldn't stealing land that is already illegally occupied, forcing the current inhabitants out at gun-point, then bulldozing their homes down while arresting the people for resisting be considered a form of terrorism?

I would like to see an updated list, the ADL would most likely be on it...

I think that the lawmakers should be questioning the USA's position on the Israeli government as well. As Buster mentioned this is obviously some "bootlicking". My opinion of this is that it's just another method to paint Israel in a positive light while demonizing Palestine to distract from Israeli crimes.

I'll say it again and again, Hamas has been elected democratically by the Palestinian people.
Israel needs to get over that important fact.
Now that the Palestinian authority made peace with Hamas, Israel needs another excuse to delay and sabotage any progress made toward a two state solution.

The term Palestine was first used in the 5th century BC by Herodotus centuries before Hadrian was even born.

I take it you know nothing about the history of Israel. Israel is actually the nation that started modern day terrorism. The Zionist Hagana, Irgun and Stern Gang groups were nothing but terrorist organizations. The King David Hotel bombing and the Lavon affair are just a couple of their terrorist acts. Anybody that says Israel isn't a terrorist state really needs to study a little more history.

Feel free to point out who the 'original owners' are.

I know plenty about the history on people on this site with their never ending the GD demagoguery of Isreal.

Personally I could care less.

I leave that little 2000 YEAR OLD song and dance to the NEOCONS.

True peace there can only be achieved by working with Israel and Palestine and quite frankly treating the Palestinian people like actual humans. The Israeli Government is as much to blame for any Terrorism there as the Palestinian people. Good for Kerry. If you ignore a problem, it doesn't go away.

Well said, even though I admit that the author of the following article seems biased, they do a good job of compiling an in-depth list of Israeli terrorism in the form of massacres leading up to 2004 - we know there have been many more before and after though - and yes from both sides (That was for you Neo, don't want you to think I am singling out the "evil zionists")

A List of Zionist Massacres

post4truth.com...

After reading that it's only logical to at least consider Israel to belong on the list of Terrorist organizations that disrupt the Middle East process and the USA government should definitely question anyone's involvement with them.

The thing is - the USA government are terrorists, and surround themselves with other terrorist organizations so this whole "they're a terrorist but we're not" mentality that some people try and convey is absolutely ridiculous.

Some people would claim the Canaanites were the original owners.

Would you be talking about the people who point out the laws that Israel breaks and how they are not held accountable for those crimes? Would you be talking about how these people are disgusted with their tax dollars being used to help Israel do to a nation that was done to the Native Americans by the Europeans here in America?

The caananites stopped being a people centuries ago,but not by massacre. sure alot of them were killed but alot od women and children fled to other countries and eventually the caananite people ceased existing.

The PLO and yasse arafat have been quoted in off mike and on record as saying the " Modern palestinian people" are related to them. WHich means they have no claim to the area. Most of them are refugees from surrounding nations.
A former PLO leader even said the PLO and palestinians were in revenge of Israels beating back the arab states to reclaim lands lost during that war.

And If i remember correctly the ROMANS renamed JUDEA into PAlestinia as a punishment.
