A lie is a lie, plain and simple. Obviously you have some guilt about this and that shows you have some moral integrity left.

If the inner conflict of your moral convictions vs earning a living builds up too great, you may reach some kind of breaking point and quit or get fired. I would start applying for jobs with companies that are honest or try to start your own honest one.

True... very true. It's certainly a good thing for him to say to his boss for sure.

I know I recently started my own business on eBay since I have been able to do so much for someone else's company and decided to do the same for myself, work two jobs basically until my own gets going well... and omg they knew everything about me - which I found shocking.

I had to go as far as to verify my mothers address to prove who I was! I was shocked they even knew my mothers address! Certainly this man cannot just set up fake accounts anymore under different names, not when they know everything, including your very first car! (although these criminal types always seem to figure it out)

It certainly cannot hurt to mention it's getting harder every day to fake anything!

So...you need to learn how to be a BS'er and feel okay while doing it?

Yeah, you came to the right place to ask for advice

But seriously, OP, just try it out. If you find that you can't cut it, then time to find a new line of work. Couldn't hurt to try your best though.

It's not really about morals or feeling to me. I merely think by the estimation/calculation of the maximization of positive minus negative feelings for all existing and not yet existing beings. So I immediately do what is best within my data.

Mh, saying this will be of help to me. He wanted me to use my home computer for this as well.

To be honest I have a high understanding of all the mechanics ebay, google and so on got there to detect one, though, I don't have to tell him.

I already thought of creating my own shop and letting it rise slowly, but sadly my contract says I may not do that additionally to work.

If I were you, I would not use my personal computer. You don't want to destroy your own possibilities with eBay and Amazon and Google later on down the road because of what you have done for this man.

Unlike you I don't have a contract, all I did was give my word that before I quit I would give 2 weeks notice... Now, the office manager is wanting that notice increased to a 4 week because of the importance of my position.. which before I came and built it wasn't that important.

But thank God I didn't get myself into any contract. Pretty cool that way.

ETA:

for me it IS about morals, it is what I can do in good conscious verses what I cannot do ever. But everyone is different.

Congrats! Sounds exciting. I wish you all the best, I know several people that have done very well with Ebay.

They do seem to figure it out, then, no small number of them, go to certain online forums where they brag about it and explain how they do it. Smart, honest people, with a stake in the game then go to those forums and learn how they're doing it so they can refine their abilities to thwart them.

Also, some site owners participate in creating online lists/data bases of ner'do wells that are publically accessible and those aren't lists someone wants to end up on.

People still get away with dishonest things online and they probably always will, but it's getting more difficult, more risky, and the payoffs are getting lower, at least generally speaking.

Thanks for the congrats and well wishes.

I have made almost 400 so far this month! I'm very excited although I know it will take a while to build it well.

It seems like you know more about those ner'do wells than myself... to be honest it makes me feel better that there are people who track this kind of thing. As doing business online increases, its good to know there are people trying to have the rest of our backs!

I think Morals are just a more divided phase of the same thing i pursue. Goal a, goal b, goal c.
So my only goal a includes all other goals (morals). Within my way of thinking this is easier and helps all of us a lot more efficiently. For this I have to understand a lot of things at once, though and have to drop language (words) from my mind or describe their real meanings.

I think we all do what is best from within what we know.
If one cares for less beings for different reasons for a lower amount, morals can be a rule of fairness that is followed by many towards each other.

If I found out morals would be more efficient for me to use, I would replace my thought mechanics with them again.

The whole brain is built to seek fun. And we feel for others. Only having one goal (=fun) also creates a single central point in the brain making all thoughts instant.

So I got a new job.....

The previous employee has already created over 10,000 fake reviews / posts in forums and so on and I am supposed to continue adding more.

Fake reviews are big time. Some even publish magazines to hype their product, paid to have favorable articles and reviews....and on down to buying local celebrity endorsement. Its been a method for many, many years.

There was a famous and well respected consumer advocacy group years ago that would test products. Manufactures would go to length to get this groups mark on its products. It came out later that this firm was selling its endorsements but by then no one put any stock in the stamp. It went from being the gold standard to better watch your back, no faith at all. Millions of american consumers for decades bought into this endorsement.

Most folks or many today understand that you have to wade through product review posts with hip waders on and in fact many times fake reviews have a certain air about them anyway. How about these folks, whatever the product, persons, places or things that edit all "negative" reviews on their sites be they YouTube or whatever. Usually a dead giveaway.

I think that's an impressive start. Reviews and customer feedback are going to be very important to you as you move forward with Ebay, as you probably already know.

So maybe the OP should consider someone like yourself while he's making his decision about what he's going to do. You'll have to compete against people that are putting up fake reviews and should he choose to engage in this type of activity, it's not just about the supposed benefits he'll be gaining for his employer, it's also about the damage he'll be doing to his employer's honest competitors. You don't get to write fake reviews and wear the white hat

Everything you said is very true. And yes, customer feedback and reviews are so very important. For myself, I saw one of my products passed over several times for the same product at a higher price before I got a sale to someone who was willing to take a chance on me - just because I am new to eBay and don't have the reviews. That's what reviews can do.

People who lie about their reviews in order to get business away from hard working honest people, not only hurt people like me at the pocketbook level, but also at the customer satisfaction level. If a person has several bad experiences online they wont shop online anymore, further hurting those of us who have a high level of integrity concerning their business and their products.

Because of all that, all I can do is struggle the best I possibly can, have a bit lower prices, and make certain that my customers walk away happy and will always want to do business with me again. Eventually with patience, that will always win out! But it always makes it harder in the beginning.

The OP should consider, as you said that what he does now does effect others - and those others he is effecting with his actions are people just like myself... people with integrity just trying to make it on their own without much capital... Because it is those just like me he is competing against.

I am not the only person with integrity who does business on eBay... I know many other individuals just trying to make it!

i disagreed with the way my life was going, and the selfish choices i was making .. my conscience kept nagging at me ..
eventually .. i started making choices based on conscience rather than my apparent 'survival instict' .. or slefishness .. or whatever ..
not saying i am rich financially .. but i always get by .. and more so .. my conscience is clear .. and, i even feel that i am somehow working 'with' the universe or whatever now .. and feel im kinda being looked after ..

i know it sounds cheesy ... but generally speaking .. we dont have to do, what we don't want to do ...

it was easy for me though .. i didnt have a wife or kids to support .. else i may have found it harder to quit the job i hate and disagree with so much in favour of a clearer conscience

i heard a phrase in a tedx vid the other day .. to the effect of .. 'you can make a living in any job .. but you will only be very successful in something you love' ... all round, it's best to chase the thing you love

You could steal from people, but you have to be very wise and sure to spend it for an influence which is more potent than the negative one you caused

Actually I feel honored to be given this choice of influence on this broken planet layer. I can fix something myself instead of always just creating theoretical prophets.

You can write excellent reviews all day long. Personally I don't put much faith in reviews except for restaurants when I want to try something new. I do listen to people I know about products and try to check them out in person when I can prior to purchasing anything.

You can write excellent reviews all day long....the business will either live up to those reviews or not.....if they don't then they will not get repeats customers and will ultimately fail. If they do live up to them then they will find success.

A business selling a product can only stay in business if people are buying that product.....reviews don't count for actual purchases.

Start your own ethical business and then become a whistle blower, because ethics is everything

And I can't believe the answers I'm reading, no wonder the world is so messed up.

Do not do anything wrong, follow inner integrity

Start own businesses.

If there is so much division that you can't sell something, then start a local group and spread it to other areas that is a council of citizens and even handles taking back the economy grass roots, and business start ups, so you only buy from each other.

There would be more integrity in putting an add up and cleaning homes for 20 dollars an hour, or mowing lawns than this.

I'd be taking those clothes, and recylcing them into street fashion and selling hip ripped up jeans and anti nwo logos on them before I'd do something that is wrong
