I was looking at a Janes Warship Guide book and i saw that one of the old soviet subs had a mercury reactor, not a nuclear. can some please explain to me what a mercury reactor is?

WHy does this sound like bad news. However, the U.S. experiments with liquid sulpher reactors but got away from them. The sulpher was used in lieu of water for cooling. The mercury could have done the same. Hoever, you would need alot of mercury and its pretty toxic.

thanks, i guess it is simply a nuclear reactor cooled with mercury instead of water.

I believe they were crazy enough, I mean they put chemical suits in a nuclear powered Submarine.

Shattered OUT...
