It's a combination of three characters - & # 8 (separated out to make them show up here!)

When you type them together, the software interprets them as a different character and replaces them - just like typing : and ) together is turned into a smiley face. In this case, the & # 8 represents the backspace character but it should presumably work with some other non-printing characters.

...and why have you not been tapped by the owners for help yet????

To me you seem to have quite the handle on these things.

Just a passing interest in this things, not quite a handle. Plus, I am sure they have access to plenty of professional codemonkeys who can resolve it. It's a minor annoyance rather than anything site-breaking so it's probably just not high on the priority list - though it's part of the security system and if one aspect is failing, it does raise questions over the integrity of the overall system.

Edited to add: on top of that, as someone who writes and maintains a website elsewhere on the internet, I certainly wouldn't be willing to give the keys to the kingdom to some random stranger on the internet - especially when he already has the word "Evil" in his username! It might not seem like much, but intimate knowledge of how any part of the security system works equals enough knowledge to compromise or circumvent it.
