Steve Vai -Tender Surrender(distortion solo)

Joe satriani - crushing day(solo)

If you like wah pedal, whammy bar, and rockNRoll
I highly suggest
Joe satriani-surfing with the alien live 2006(whole song)

There are plenty more, but all I know is mostly instrumentals and I'm not sure if non-musicians will be able to distinguish the solo from anything else. But those three are off the top of my head

Danny Gatton's 'The Pits.' I heard this was the last thing he recorded before committing suicide. He just empties his cannons.

Frank playing this instrumental
Watermelon in Easter Hay

One of his more sedate and melodic pieces.
It just sounds so nice, and he gets a little wild in a few parts.

You should make this about favorite solos, not "best". "Best" is a subjective term.

having said that, anything from The Wall / David Gilmour. Tasty and awesome tone. I've been playing for 35 years, too, and playing is more about what kind of connection you make with the listener, not speed or which runs you play, etc. I like listening to Malmsteen for the same reason I like watching a nascar race, but after a couple songs I'm good, and move on to some SRV or whatever.

Heh, just found out a friend of mine is good friends/neighbors with Slash. Their kids went to school together. My buddy moved back to Atlanta, though.

Mmmmmm..... I do love me some Slash (and GnR, of course!).

The guitar solo from November Rain. In the video, he is standing in front of a church. I had really cool parents who took me to see the Use Your Illusion tour. When performing live, he stood atop a grand piano for the solo.

Absolutely breath-taking...

I went to see them twice, last time was in Buenos Aires, 1992......what a night!
And I took my younger brother with me (he was 13)......if they would reunite I would definitely take my kids......your parents are amazing!!

I love Guns n'roses.....the originals, pity they split up.

I'm not going to say he's the best but I don't think a lot of us know just how good he is.
