Okay, please hear me out.
First of all, anyone who says its because there is more junk food now, yes you have a point in the fact that there are more takeaways now than ever before, but 50/60 years ago people were still eating fish and chips, and candy rock and guess what? they werent all fat.
So, please dont put it down simply to peoples eating habits, i mean true they may be worse now than they were in the past, BUT.. junk food has been eaten before, quite popularly in fact, in past generations without causing these effects.

Now, i dont know if you are aware but in the UK and Europe there is a company valued at billions, named just-eat they basically send the orders through to takeaways for a comission, pretty lame you would think why not ring the resturant yourself, however, for some reason they are a very very sucessfull company.

Their slogans everywhere are `dont cook just eat`
here is their advert

Note their website, www.just-eat.co.uk... the bottom of the page `cooking sucks` and all kinds of brainwashing headlines to make you think that it should be a natural way of life to replace healthy cooking for fast food.
And please do not tell me that this is just light hearted, why else would this company have a multi million pound advertising campaign on every prime time tv channel in Europe, and why else would their advertising be everywhere.

Forget the issue of no internet, if that company was using those marketing strategies 20 years ago, there would be outrage, but now we are such a nation of dumbed down slow coaches who choose not to stop old ladies getting mugged, but would rather film it for youtube, we call a chat on skype going to `hang out with friends`, anyway we have become such a lazy dumbed down nation that we just shrug our shoulders at a campaign trying to forcibly install in you the notion that cooking healthy is `lame` and you should replace it with takeaway.

Every high street is just full of takeaways here in the UK, and i mean it, its crazy they are everywhere.
If you go into a newsagent hungry for a little snack, there is nothing you can buy besides for sodas, candy bars, crisps etc, i mean i almost see why eating healthy is for the rich only.

Even many bbc interviews now are `skype calls` which are even more trying to install the notion of `its okay to use the internet for all your communications`.
Kids now bring their laptops to school, barely any writing on paper, and when they get home its back to the laptop to skype game, or swap to xbox. There is zero to little reason to do any walking or naturral exercise anymore.

I truly think that this lazy slob like society we are morphing into, is an attempt to dumb us down, and render us powerless for when something does happen.
Now i`m not saying its for some alien invasion or NWO, or whatever, i am just saying that when its now the national average in many places, to actually be obsese, there is a clear attempt by somebody to slow/ dumb us down.

In spite of all the marketing trying to convince you to act counter to self-interest, at the end of the day people still control what goes in their mouth. The ingredients are right there to see.

Imagine if government regulators didn't force these heroes to label ingredients?

Any libertarians out there want to argue that food corps should self regulate? Go for it. They'd feed you artificially flavored saw dust and tell you it's peanut butter if they could get away with it.

can you believe that
little potnoodles.. harmless pot noodles

i dont even buy these supposed pure orange or apple juice cartons anymore as they are just full of sugar

i would never live on something boring like lettuce and horse raddish all day, but at the same time, its just like most processed foods from the shelves are just junk

What use is a world full of obese, lethargic people with costly health issues and shortened lifespans?

Unless we're cattle to be fed on.

I lean more to this all being a side-effect of trends and pop-science.

Pop-science and knee-jerk reactions by corporations not wanting to miss the bandwagon and politicians trying to capitalize on popular opinion got us the fat-free fad of the 80's and 90's which in turn spawned all sorts of wonderful artificial chemicals to be added into our food to make it "healthier." High fructose corn syrup was one of these wonder additives the CDC and FDA loved so much.

The trend of the fat-free diet effectively transformed the US into a crab-consuming nation. It was supposed to be healthier to load up on corn and rice and corn syrup. Plant based was better than animal based, right?

So they told us.

They also told us pregnant women shouldnt exercise. That women would get bulky if they lifted weights. That body weight is more important than body composition. That toning and spot-reduction are things. That margarine is a healthy alternative to butter. That alcohol is bad for you. Oh, wait it's good for you. Oops, now it doesn't do anything for you. Eating fish is great. But you cant eat it because they're all full or mercury. But eat it anyway. Carbs make you fat not fat. But fat makes you fat too so eat low fat. Those chemicals in the low fat stuff will also make you fat.

There has been a lot of crazy policies and pop-science nonsense since we were relatively thin and eating butter and steak everyday.

This is an interesting piece:
Why we got fatter during the fat-free boom

So I'm not convinced there is grand plot to make us fat, sick and lazy. Sure, certain parties will take advantage of dietary trends and the whims of the population to profit in either money or power but it's the trend that begets the profit not the other way around at least in my opinion.

What begets the trend is typically pop-science nonsense paired with desperate people seeking shortcuts to fitness.

We all make the decision on what to eat and how much we eat. No one is putting a gun on our head and telling us to eat.

If someone eats healthy then he is likely to be in a good shape. It also depends on how much excercise you do everyday. With computers and the internet one doesn't have to move as much as people used to before.

I was skinny till I got fibromyalgia the doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. I was in pain from head to toe. They kept pumping me up with steroids. Every doctor I saw gave me steroids. I went from 130 to 199 in one month. I was in so much pain I could hardly eat anything. I think the doctors are prescribing steroids for a lot of things they shouldn't. 18 years later I read people with fibromyalgia should never be given steroids. The sad thing was the steroids never got rid of the pain! It ruined my vision and my figure. Don't think every person is fat because of what they eat or how they eat. Doctors are a big part of the problem. How many people here are taking steroids from some kind of medical issues?

Even to this day when I talk to someone with Fibromyalgia I always ask them what are you taking? When they tell me steroids I let them know what happened to me and at least give them the option that I was never given. I use to trust doctors now I take care of myself and go the natural route to fix any issues that come up.

I also think the population is getting bigger because the way the process foods. They are giving the animals hormones and stuff to make them grow faster and fatter. Think about it we are eating these animals. So what they are putting into them is going into us. I think that also is a part of this issue and I believe some people are more susceptible to these chemicals than others causing some to get fat and some not.

I could go on and on about the different causes of why people are gaining weight. Microwave, non-stick pans, poisons and toxins etc. Add it all together and our bodies are not functioning correctly. A lot has to do with environment too. There are millions of different reasons to gain weight. It's not always because people are eating too much!

Oh Boy
Its not all the fault of others, its more about personal choices we make.
Obesity is todays word and even kids today are in a risk of diabetes type 2. The changes what has happened during these decades to turning our youth fat has been personal choices. Kids do not use all the energy they get from food, they do not spend time outside having fun and outdoor games instead they prefer sitting inside in front of TV, PC and game consoles..
Snacks are everyday treat and they are not the healthiest ones, while sitting still inside doing absolutely nothing, you don´t need any snacks.
Its a wake up call to the parents who enable this, it´s so easy to give kid a chocolate bar or bag of potato chips as the smiles of child is so rewarding. Also not couraging kids to play outside ( safety concerns etc ) when they could use some of the energy they have eaten that day is wrong, if you really think its too dangerous to play outside you should go there yourself to observe.
Kids needs structure in their life, it means certain meal times and eating together as a family and even preparing the meals together can be fun also it can teach kids to choose right healthy incredients from the bad ones. This is something people don´t seem to have time anymore nor even think about it.

I was told to take an aspirin everyday because of the heart disease in my families past. Now, 10 years later, I'm told stop taking it we made a mistake-aspirin is what you Don't' want to take. Pay your bill up front please, and have a nice day.

Now is there ever was a damned conspiracy this-is it.

Found this interesting when you talk about choice and what you put into your mouth.

Infographic on Food Choice

Like food access. If healthy options aren’t easily available to you, it’s pretty darn hard to “choose” them. In what world is it OK for people who live 10 miles apart to have such drastically different opportunities for health?

I don't eat junk food or drink sugary sodas. I don't restrict my intake of fat and protein. I do, however, have a relatively low intake of carbohydrates...not much bread, unless beer counts as liquid bread. I am lean and mean...no weight problems. I believe that if you eat lots of sugary food, your body uses that for fuel and has no need for the fats, so it just stores it.

This is why I don't promote eating any type of junk food, they want us to be fat so we can't defend ourselves in the future when their invasion begins, but I'm not falling for it.
