As a former aquariumdiver I never forget that day I cleaned a tank with a new juvenile Giant Pacific Octopus. It was the first time somebody dived
that small tank and I didnt knew what to expect of the animal.
Altough I stayed calm the animal was all over my mask and regulator and I was amazed of the power of the animal. At a point I decided to back up and
was not able to. It just hold me down and Im a 90 kg man.
It took a lot of effort to get all the arms lose and get out of the tank.
Now I dont say that Octopus are aggresive towards people (Humbold squid are!) But a curious animal can be strong and theoreticly keep a swimming
person under. Octopus normaly prey on crab, shrimp, lobster and fish but they have been known to attack large fish as sharks. They are also very
intelligent and learn quickly.
Still it would be incredible if a freshwater species has adapted : maybe set a few traps?
