Either here or Craigslist to spew my rant.
Not a big rant just an annoying pet peeve really. I'm not a grammar nazi nor a spelling bee but really? Really?

I will read a well thought out post clearly written by an adult or someone who seems intelligent enough, then they blow it by spelling " alot" or "allot". The last one really gets me lol. It's two words people! A Lot!

edit on 1-5-2014 by FlySolo because: It's' nor not or. See, I'm a grammar nazi with myself even

Combining two words into one is not ALRIGHT.

May I add that it's not "should of" ... It's "should have."

That one kills my soul just a little bit each time I see it.

Not every member is fluent in the English language, nor has everyone had the same level of education.

Sorry but you're being a grammar policeman when you rant over.... a simple spelling mistake.

And I have purposly spelt this last sentance wrong.

I see Grammar Nazis raving all over the the place.

A lot!

But the thing is, most of us get it and move on. You want to fix grammar, then let's set off a EMP and wipe out cell phones.

Wrong
Clearly, it's fluent English speaking members I'm talking about.

And this is the rant section so it's my rant. Got an issue with it?

Agreed, their is a certain annoyance value too what your posting about. My pet peeve, however, is the homophone switchers, who use inappropriate homophones in there posts.
Its often more work then its worth too read the stuff, as it's content can become to confusing too follow.
edit on 5/1/14 by BuzzCory because: Homophones, not homonyms... their's a difference

I use alot a lot. It's called the evolution of language.

Like don't, doesn't, IPod etc, etc.

I'm not picking on every spelling mistake. Just the alot or allot. In fact, allot isn't spelled wrong, it just has a different meaning. Thing is, if I told you ( generally speaking) you're spelling a word wrong, would you continue? It's not even a typo, people really think a lot is one word.

I used to get bothered when people would write alot instead of a lot. Then I stumbled across this blog that has a humorous little thing about it.

Hyperbole and a half - The Alot

Now, whenever I see alot I sort of smile.

Evolution of language? Huh??? No such thing.
Also, the examples you gave are called contractions, not evolution of language LMAO. Do not don't etc. iPod on the other hand is a brand name LMAO

Some people need to go back to school.

Yes well done, it may very well be a contraction as in the omission of a vowel from the word, but it's still a makeup of two original words. Also the IPod part was a joke, hense the smiley face sticking out a tongue, but I guess sarcasm is lost on some people.

So I could sit here and take you back to school all day if it pleases you.

Well, there is only a little space missing between the two, plus the communicator/keyboard. The only thing that does produce a head scratch for me is Rouge for Rogue, and I see that often. Maybe it's all girls who do that, maybe it's just the keyboard again.
