I live in Traverse City, Michigan, and I've been hearing some pretty terrifying rumors. The local homeless have established a number of spots for extended period camping in various locations throughout the city, ranging from sparse bushes in town to more heavily wooded areas outside of town. My opinion is, if they're not being loud and obnoxious or vandalizing city property, they aren't something I'm worried about. Unfortunately, my voice is not that of the city. And the city has been doing some...extreme things about it lately.

And by extreme, I mean enlisting the coast guard in a citywide sweep via helicopters and possibly other aerial vehicles in an effort to locate illegal camping sites, then sending in SWAT teams to literally drag the vagrants out and chuck them in the meat wagon. Rumor is that rubber bullets are also involved. Generally speaking, they've usually let the homeless get out and about and set up camps for a couple months before taking any kind of action. Then the police leave calling cards or contact various representatives of street outreach programs to notify them of planned raids. This time, they've hit the poor people right out the gate, and they've hit them hard. 90 days in jail for the first time, 120 for the second, and prison if you get caught a third time.

Apparently, this is the "national" solution to homelessness, and a result of a previous effort failing sometime in 2003 or so...? I don't know, but this is happening. SWAT is being called in to deal with vagrants. Really? The fact that these measures are in place makes me worried sick for the people out in the woods. So does anyone else know of homelessness being treated in this manner?

So let me get this straight - TPTB are basically saying "Stop being homeless or we'll jail you!"

How disgraceful. What the hell has happened to America?

My thoughts exactly. I was literally shaking when I listened to the stories. There are multiple people who have heard and seen this happening, and I've managed to gather a handful of accounts. It's horrifying to think that homeless people are treated in the same capacity as a drug ring.

I'm sure the gov will implement an Obamacare style solution where homelessness is solved by mandating everyone buy a home and fine those who do not.

Because in 2014 insanity is how we run America.

The homeless make me think of the Jews/Gypsires/mentally ill etc..... that got shafted in Germany....
The parallels are insanely close.....
What will happen if these mini Warsaw ghettos decide they aint moving ala Bundy style?
That's whats coming down the pike .......the constitution forbids such overreaching penalties for poverty.....
Wheres the bloody Oathkeepers now?
Its time to rise up!

Gets them off the streets for the summer so the tourist don't see them. Sounds like a good way to keep the town clean if it's REALLY HAPPENING>

What if they rounding the homeless up to be put to
work as cheap labor in prisons or something ?

Most elites look at poor people as a untapped workforce
and in their eyes no money equals no rights.

These and other outrageous acts are being done in the name of the US citizens. The citizens have not collectively communicated that this will not be tolerated.

In other words, there are still a vast majority of people looking the other way and apologizing for the criminals.

How do criminals drive home at the end of the day to the house right alongside the citizens they are abusing and feel comfortable. Home of the brave? Doesn't look like it.

I'd like to point out a couple of things to you.
1. You are complicit with the fascist regime and your future is linked with theirs.
2. Traverse City Michigan isn't a tourist destination that matters anywhere except Detroit.

Those citizens looking the other way are the reason this is happening. They are the ones complaining, the ones calling the cops, the ones whispering in the ears of our representatives and law-enforcers and insisting that the homeless be dumped overboard like rats off a ship. They are the reason the government is no longer afraid to do this to its own citizens, citizens breaking no more rules than the average jaywalker.

Incorrect. Traverse City is very much a tourist hotspot, particularly given that it sits on the edge of one of the largest fresh water resources in the entire world. Many people from all over the country and across the oceans swarm here every summer. And yes, that probably has a lot to do with the recent (and highly questionable) efforts of local (and not so local) law enforcement.

Is the $$$ for vehicles and employee salary hourly wages and transport =< how much it would cost to reintegrate these people back into society, with some type of case workers who provide assistances to help the homeless find shelters if not homes & jobs? Yes some are not bothered by being homeless but many are, just saying . How would ? react if found the home planet they felt was theirs was not and the original owners performed similar activities...

Can understand some want to provide appearances that their city is clean w/o homeless but also understand the prison business system and its financial gains per inhabitant. Guess its based on how the species governs itself w/ or w/o compassion in mind as opposed to financial progressions.

So the bankers help increase homelessness ( so many forclosed empty homes and shelter ) and energy is spent on tormenting the most vulnerable. I know its global as the same disrespectful action happens here, cases like visible homeless people being put in a psych unit and forced medication, they let them out after a few months and still have medical persons force them to take anti psychotic drugs that cannot be taken with alcohol(knowing the person is an alcoholic)it kills him (a stranger was seen giving him alcohol).
What I see is that they do not want to see the negative effects of greed and selfishness. In a police state what they are doing to the homeless people will be done to other people they do not want to see( and they do not want together in groups/numbers as they see them as a potiential threat ) .

The jail is currently occupied to the point where you go in one day and come out the next. It won't matter for some, because if they get caught again, they are not going to jail...

Company towns where miners were literal slaves and paid in chits instead of real money are going to return. The company pays you, then you are forced to buy food at the company grocer, clothes at the company clothier, and rent to the company that is your landlord. My Grandfather was a coal miner in the 40's. I heard all kinds of stories growing up from my family. Life wasn't very great back then.

As I said, it is the tax payers who are doing this. The tax payers have cried loudly enough and long enough to get the attention of various agencies who are noticing the same problem in other places across the country. This is the solution they have come up with, apparently. To make the tax payers happy, the exterminators are being called in to settle the roach problem once and for all. I can't help but feel there are so many other things our tax money could be spent on. Putting vagrants behind bars using SWAT force? Please. There are bigger fish to fry that get bigger with every passing week.

The system attacks the homeless but lets the Government orgs smuggle drugs to support black programs....corruption, and greed
thus creating an endless cycle of business for all concerned if you cannot see that simple fact you need new glasses....
