Then why do you spread messages of doubt and hopelessness!
Why haven't YOU started your ATS movement. Or Is your movement one of spreading hopelessness and defeat ( keep it its the shill movement.)
Your negative message telling me I am the problem doesn't even reach me.

this is especially...i guess "creepy" is as good a word as any....this is especially creepy, when you take into account that they don't have enough people to watch EVERYTHING on a site like this....so they can just sic this system on ATS, and other sites like it, and have it look for "hate"(which can mean just about anything, when you have idiots determining what words mean)...so we'll have them busting people for disagreeing with governmental policies, discussing alternative medical topics, discussing government coverups.......pretty much everything on here that isn't some shill-esque "i love the government, they're A-OK" post, is gonna eventually get someone busted....

no good can come from this.

seriously, how in the hell is this not federal overreach?

it's absolutely amazing that these stupid bastards in washington can WASTE time, and taxpayer money on crap like this, when we have REAL problems they should be addressing...like the economy being in the s**tter, or all those poor sods who can't find a job, or all those companies moving manufacturing out of the U.S., thus creating MORE people who can't find jobs, or the stranglehold corporations and banks have on the government....there are much better things they could be working on...REAL governing to do......yet they still waste time on useless, feel-good, legislative frivolities like this...

seriously...we should just flush the whole lot of them, and elect people who can actually do the damned job correctly..

not to derail things here, but how exactly does stamping out dissent, constitute fascism?

do you even know what fascism is?

While I have no doubt this kind of thing is in the works, if you look for this on Google, every link that comes up is an "alternative" news site. And while those kinds of sites usually aren't entirely wrong, they are often, shall we say, a little exaggerated. TPTB usually don't operate as blatantly as we might wish they do. They often don't implement these kinds of plans all at once. It's almost always more of a "boiling frog" type of thing.

After all, that is how we got to where we are today. The public actually doesn't protest that much. Why? Decades of slow, steady conditioning through propaganda that was encoded into absolutely every source of information they were exposed to.

The problem is that "authoritarianism" isn't a very sexy word and doesn't get the same kind of attention as something like "fascism" or "communism". Although authoritarianism is a more all-encompassing term for the kind of thing we're talking about. Unfortunately, if you want people to listen, sometimes you just have to use the terminology people are used to hearing instead of textbook terms.

Authoritarianism takes many forms and it usually doesn't look exactly the same when it pops up as it did last time or 60 years ago.

But if you make yourself two signs....

One that says "This is fascism!"

And one that says "This is authoritarianism!"

Which one is going to resonate and which one is going to be ignored?

Mr Flanders, had you actually read the whole thread you would have seen that "thatguyrighthere" provided us a link to the actual bill being proposed. For ease of reference I'll include it again

beta.congress.gov...

It's an actual government website and proves that the alternative news websites carrying stories pertaining to what's really happening rather than the tog wash the MSM serves up everyday

I understand. I'm just saying that the way they undoubtedly intend to go about it will probably be subtle enough that the general public will not pay any attention. And they will certainly reject the idea that it's anything to worry about when they don't see anything happening. They will dismiss it as alarmist tin foil hat nonsense. And as you say, you certainly can't rely upon the MSM to do any real in-depth investigation. They're accomplices. Not investigators. They will assist TPTB in conditioning the public to gradually embrace this "hate speech" stuff.

It's all well and good for us to discuss it here but we're really preaching to the choir. We know what's going on. We saw it coming. We need to try and figure out how to get people who don't read the alternative news sites to listen. They will not listen if we tell them the sky is falling and it doesn't happen.

so the answer is to embrace ignorance, for the sake of expediency?

this is ATS, we're supposed to have standards..

OK. Sorry if you saw that other post I had to edit out. I thought I was responding to something else.

Anyway. I guess that's what I'm saying. Embracing ignorance (to a degree), for the sake of expediency may seem unethical but you have to understand the people we are up against here are not ethical people. They will be only too happy for you to try to talk to people using terms that bounce right off of them. We don't have the luxury of standards. You can preach for the next 50 years about authoritarianism (or whatever technical term is correct) but if people aren't listening, no one is going to care about standards.

The arrogant and the tyrannical prissy busy-bodies know nor want NO LIMITS to their arrogance nor their powers . . . as soon as they can maximize their tyrannies.

They only want cogs in their vast machines . . . slaves and serfs to act as biological robots . . .

Personally . . . such ignorance deserves to be shipped off to . . . an island somewhere to work out their own society without damaging the masses so extensively. However, it won't happen. They will reign with increasing destructiveness until after Armageddon. AT least their removal from the planet IS scheduled.

I saw Tony Blair's speech on the tv about the damgers of radicalisation of Muslims fighting in Syria and elsewhere.

I must admit although I didn't like Tony Blair for his war policies and USA lap dogging, he made a very conclusive argument that with the spread of Muslims around the world and their bringing their religion and its demands and forcing it onto our societies little by little, we do have a problem with the bearded hate spinners that will only tolerate the death of anyone opposing their view.

That said I suspect as he made that speech and he is still very well connected in the multinational political scene that this is the thrust of the hate bots.

However, I do think we have to fight for our freedom of speech to crtitise what we really think is wrong and should be changed in the name of fairness and freedom. I do think there is a difference between the hate speeches shilled from some mosques and other religious houses, to the right of citizens to criticise political and religious hardliners and corruption. No one will tell me how I am to think that's my freewill and I will keep it regardless of bots.

I remember happier times when we were all free to say what the hell we liked, about anything or anyone. If people didn't like it they had the option of walking away, putting forward a counter argument, changing the channel etc.

Now, a personal opinion is considered "Hate Speech" if it is spoken or put up as a personal opinion online, if only one person objects. The world has gone bloody mad!

We are all now to be mandated to use only government approved "groupthink", with trangression likely to end in court, with jail time and fines if someone feels a bit peeved at what we have said or written.
What is scarier is that the logical extension of this government mandated "Hate Speech" nonsense, is that they get to determine who needs to be incarcerated or medicated to cure them of their unsavoury opinions. A throwback to the early days of Soviet tactics to stifle dissent, and a money maker for professional "hate crime" victims and their equally obnoxious lawyers.

To be honest, I DON'T CARE what the politicians think, I will speak my mind on a variety of subjects and if someone takes offence, then so be it. Grow up, grow a backbone and thicker skin and suck it up!

yes, but i believe that catering to the ignorant isn't the way....i wouldn't call it unethical, it's intellectually dishonest.

ignorance can be cured with education, then the ignorant are no longer ignorant...unless they are willfully so....

i believe trying to cure the ignorance is the more prudent course of action, so that we can all speak on these things in a way that doesn't make us look like idiots

Well, I don't know about you but I think the task of educating at least a hundred million people (probably many more) when most of them think we're crazy is just a little unrealistic. If you hadn't noticed, they don't come here and if you try to say anything in their domain (which is just about anywhere else online) you're generally always outnumbered at least 20 to 1. As soon as they realize what you're talking about, out comes the old "tin foil hat" epithet. And that's if they choose to be somewhat civil. More likely they'll just call you a nutjob and it's all over with from there.

Unfortunately, I have been around long enough to know that when people just don't like you, they don't get cured or educated from an argument or a debate. If they don't want to hear what you have to say, they will plug their ears and pull every dirty trick in the book to derail you.

What needs to be realized is that most people are not stupid. They know what's going on. They're scared. They don't want their name on a watchlist because they asked too many questions. They know what it means if they acknowledge that "Big Brother" is materializing right before their eyes. They know there is nowhere to go. Nowhere to hide. They believe if they don't rock the boat they'll be OK. And they're probably right.
