WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. officials say Russian fighter jets flew into Ukrainian airspace a handful of times over the last 24 hours, in what one called a continued provocation of the heightened tensions in the region.

The officials say it's not clear what the intent was, but the aircraft could have been testing Ukrainian radar or making a show of force.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about the issue. The flights come as Russia increases military exercises along the Ukraine border, including moving a broad array of fixed wing and rotary aircraft, infantry and armor troops. The West has threatened additional sanctions against Russia over its annexation of Ukraine's Crimean region and the ongoing escalation of military operations along the border.

So, Russian fighter jets have breached Ukraine's airspace...the world is just standing still and letting Russia bully another country that they know cannot fight back. With this latest news it is obvious what Vladimir Putin's plans are. He wants to invade Ukraine.

It's in MSM so it must be true, I guess.

Gotta love these official stories without a shred of proof.

So without technicalities and all that jazz, this is another piece of propaganda news.

This doesn't mean an invasion is imminent by any means. While it is likely that the purpose of the flyovers were to test the response time of Ukranian fighters, or even radar capabilities, Russia is not really all that concerned with Ukraine's military. If Russia wanted to, it could have overrun the country already. It could do so very quickly. And considering that Russia's buildup is moving quite slowly, considering they could have massed the bulk of their entire military by this point had they wanted to, tells me that Putin does not want to invade.

It would have made much more sense to have done it right after Crimea. Waiting not only gives the enemy time to dig in and establish defensive lines throughout the country, but it also has given time for the US and other nations to ready themselves for any potential Russian decision or action. That is horrible strategy on Russia's part if they want to invade. So strictly from a military and political point of view, I think an invasion is quite unlikely by this point. Unless the situation changes of course. There could be things occurring on the ground that we don't know about, things that have kept Putin from invading at this point. That is possible.

Maybe Putin thinks they have weapons of mass destruction.....

If a country ( or person) cannot take an honest look at themselves, they will never be able to overcome their faults.
Are you not aware that America has, and does the same thing to other countries?

Oil seems to be a motivator. Hmmmmmm.......
There seems to be a bit of 'The Pot Calling The Kettle Black' in this situation.....
Maybe 'American Insurgents' being placed in Ukraine is just a nasty rumor. I hope so. Given our past history, I do have to wonder.

U.S. Conducts Spy Flight Over Russia
Moscow confirms it canceled flight last week

The spy flight originally was scheduled for April 14 but was canceled by Russia after a U.S. team for the flight failed to arrive near Moscow on time and Moscow refused temporarily to reschedule it.

A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman also expressed anger on Monday over U.S. delays in certifying a new high-tech Russian aircraft to be used for spying missions over the United States under the Open Skies Treaty that permits limited legal spying over U.S. and Russian territory.

The State Department official said, however, that last week’s delay was the result of bad weather – despite radar images showing mostly clear skies over of Russia during the period of last week’s planned flight.

By your logic...and I use that term loosely....the above article would make it clear what the US's intentions are...and that is to invade Russia.

Ridiculous at best.

Ponder this....what would the US do if the Russians staged a coup in Mexico...helped fascists and oligarchs take over the democratically elected government....and then when the Mexican people rose up in protest...the new government started killing it's own people??

Would they stand by and do nothing?

This Putin-phobia makes me sick. The US STARTED THIS. Not Vlad....now he is left to deal with the fruits of American meddling in the affairs of yet ANOTHER country that the US Gov has completely destabilized.

Blaming Russia for this is utter nonsense.

As for attacking countries that cannot defend themselves....America knows all about that...they have become masters at it. SUCH HYPOCRISY!!!

Russia the bully? Lol it's the Americans doing the bullying. That Nuland woman stirred all this crap up and installed the choice of hers Yatswhatever. Russia is reacting defensively to an American sponsored revolution on its borders. America is the bully here, as usual.

Maybe they were just looking for all that money that is pouring out of Russia. Now that Russia's credit has been downgraded to just above junk status. Russia Credit Downgrade

The credit downgrade may not have the desired effect if they continue to expand their trade eastwards....(which it looks like they are doing)....certainly will have adverse effects of the delivery of the French built attack ships they are buying from france....as well as electronics for their planes....

In the East they are already getting owned by China. That is something that is going to be Russia's next problem, China is going to use this Crimean crisis to move into even more Russian markets claiming Russia is unstable and not reliable.

Checking response times and intimidation is my guess. Not that the Ukrainian air force would stand a chance against Russian migs.
