I feel like a caveman trying to figure out how to fly a spaceship when I try to post images here. I put about 50 or so paintings on photobucket, for those interested. I would be more than happy to discuss any or all of them. I have experimented with a range of styles over the years, from surrealism, to nature painting, to pure abstract. I put the work I thought would be more interesting to people on this site closer to the top of the album and tried to keep the different styles grouped together. The photos I have posted were all taken with an old 2 megapixal camera and really don't do justice to the way they appear in person, but I'm working with what I have. I have never really tried to market my art. I do it because I enjoy the challenge and escape painting allows, but I can barely move around my small studio at this point and I figured it is time to start putting some stuff out there. Hope you enjoy.

This is my favorite series. Reminds me a lot of Paul klee and Pollock's early work.
PM me if they are for sale.

Do tell me you have had a gallery showing. If not. You must!!!

Superb work Skunkape. I am so really really impressed. If I were in a financial position to start collecting your works...I would be doing it now. It's very seldom, I see work by an Artist, I find collectable, and want to own it.

I have no gallery representation at present. I live in a one room shack in the boonies in south Texas and show some of my stuff at a smoky redneck bar. I really need to relocate. It's nice to find that some people actually appreciate it. The closest thing to compliment I've received lately was something like "Man what the hell were you on when you did that?" from a guy wearing overalls with no shirt, a straw hat and missing half of his teeth. I imagine the extent of his art exposure was posters of girls in bikinis hung over urinals. Nice enough guy, I guess...bought me a beer.

Thank you very much. That really does mean a lot to me. That series is very different from most of my other work. I worked on those, on and off, for several years. There is a very personal, and tragic back story to those paintings that I will not share publicly for the time being. I will contact you and tell more. Peace.

That will make a great story when you get into your first gallery. The high brows eat that chit up!!
All it takes is the right person to see your work and want to help you out. Probably not gonna happen in a bar though. Smoke can really damage the works too. I'd use the net to find out some coffee houses in your area of the state. They're usually looking for works to show. Great stepping stone to get exposure.

If you want a critique, I'd be happy to give you one via PM. I've already expressed interest so you know it will be mostly favorable.

Edit: Just read your above post. Wasn't referring to that series/tragedy you experienced while working on them, when I said the "highbrows will eat that chit up." I meant about living in a shack in a small town while making great art.

Wow! some of that work is very much in the style of the Folk/Primitive/Outsider Art of Howard Finster, and every bit as good. Quite collectable! (specially the big cats!)
Some may remember the album covers of R.E.M., Talking Heads and Black Cat, that he did.
Google Howard and look at his art that's in museums, galleries and art brokers. Then take heart!

If you are running Firefox with NoScript or DoNotTrackMe add-ons, you will have to let down your guard a bit to let Photobucket load.
