Attorney General Abbott Questions BLM’s Authority to Seize Private Property along Red River in Tex

AUSTIN—Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today called into question the federal Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) potential seizure of land that rightfully belongs to Texas landowners. In a strongly worded letter to BLM Director Neil Kornze, Attorney General Abbott said:

“I am deeply concerned about the notion that the Bureau of Land Management believes the federal government has the authority to swoop in and take land that has been owned and cultivated by Texas landowners for generations. The BLM’s newly asserted claims to land along the Red River threaten to upset long-settled private property rights and undermine fundamental principles—including the rule of law—that form the foundation of our democracy. Yet, the BLM has failed to disclose either its full intentions or the legal justification for its proposed actions. Decisions of this magnitude must not be made inside a bureaucratic black box.”

Well, I've been disturbed that Texas hasn't made any 'Official Stand' on the BLM ... UNTIL NOW !!!

This part cannot be stressed enough. The black box, the behind the scenes, the crap you and I don't know about. WE pay the TAXES, this is OUR LAND, our COUNTRY! We deserve to know, and our reps deserve a fair say. Good for TX

I was starting to wonder if they changed the saying "Don't mess with Texas" to something else. Lets see if this AG can get some weight behind this and if it goes anywhere. Would love to see the state reclaim the land from the BLM for the true owners.

Only time will tell if this is no more than political posing. I am jaded and cynical toward any and all politicians: therefore, until I see actual, real actions that make a difference in the real world, I am assuming that it's just another politico talking out of his butt.

Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman sent a letter to Barack Obama, Department of the Interior Sec. Sally Jewell, and BLM Director Neil Kornze, laying out his position that any such action by the agency would violate the U.S. Constitution.

This is just one arm people........It is a sad world we live in today. Every branch of the government is totally out of control all the way down to the local police it seems.



The BLM is just another brick in this vast wall we call America. When will people wake up and see the progressive agenda being pushed by both sides. This is real people and it is planned at the highest levels.

If the Federal government can do this...private citizens & businesses should be afforded the same means of opportunism.
This would open the flood-gates for trivial * lawsuits across the nation, as one "water-front land-owner" after another tries to take advantage of land-owners across the way.
This could yield Hatfields & McCoys...everywhere (throughout the USA).

These water channels (and, I would presume 'lakes' and 'beachfronts' to be included) are continually changing.
What if the course changes back, as it was in earlier times? Is the Federal Government going to hand it back to the former owners (or their successors, heirs &/or assigns)?

Well, I am glad that any Federal Authority at all is put on notice by the state of Texas......
This makes just another disgruntled partner in a marriage of strange bedfellows we call USA....
Perhaps the Constitution must be re-examined by all concerned to evaluate the reach of all the different levels involved...
Everyone should be taking a step back not stretching out for more un legislated power....

I live in Wichita Falls Texas, the red river is right up the road from me.

Texas is serious!!!!!!!! This is not the place to come to "take the piss".

Texans are, from my limited experience, not playing, they mean it when they say something.

Since most of the land grabs in Texas have been done to benefit good ole T Bone himself to make $ off the water, expect the land grabs to continue because good ole T Bone, I mean T Boone, needs to make trillions and not billions.
