While I agree to most of your post, especially that the shackles needed to come off female sexuality, I have to dispute any connection to "genuine
belly dance" other than twerking being an isolation move (of which belly dance is composed) that for most dancers must be learnt.
I am a long time belly dancer and teacher, and am just being fussy as it has been a long road to travel with the general public equating belly dance
to stripping, burlesque and harems. It is, rather, a cultural dance, done by men and women, that borrowed heavily from Hollywood glamour of the early
part of the 20th century. It is the glamour end that causes the confusion.
