So you're saying that even though the government owns the land, they should let Mr. Bundy's cattle graze there as much or as little as Mr. Bundy wants because 'He's been doing it for a long time.' Is that about it?
It boils down, not to Harry Reid, not to tortoises, but to Mr. Bundy refusing to pay further lease payments in 1994. He's used federal land for the past 20 years without paying for it, he's done the exact opposite of what he was asked to do. He's done the exact opposite of what he agreed to do. Again, only because the government is taking action now against Mr. Bundy is he throwing a fit and calling it government overreach.
Article four section three of the constitution says the government can own land and can maintain that land in any way it wants.
Madison, Jefferson and the Founders were primarily interested in limited government and the diffusion of federal authority over the states for the protection of individual liberty. In 1992, the Supreme Court issued an opinion on the framers’ reasoning behind the state consent requirement (New York v. U.S):
“The Constitution does not protect the sovereignty of States for the benefit of the States or state governments as abstract political entities, or even for the benefit of the public officials governing the States. To the contrary, the Constitution divides authority between federal and state governments for the protection of individuals. State sovereignty is not just an end in itself: rather, federalism secures to citizens the liberties that derive from the diffusion of sovereign power.” (Emphasis added.)
2003, he Nevada Democrat publicly banned relatives from lobbying him or his staff after newspaper reports showed that Nevada industries and institutions routinely turned to Reid's sons or son-in-law for representation.
Now, questions surrounding family ties are flaring again in Nevada around the Senate majority leader. He and his oldest son, Rory, are both involved in an effort by a Chinese energy giant, ENN Energy Group, to build a $5 billion solar farm and panel manufacturing plant in the southern Nevada desert.
The Langfang, China-based ENN Energy Group hopes to build what would be the largest solar energy complex in America. The site chosen with Rory Reid's guidance is in tiny Laughlin, Nevada, a gambling town of 7,300 along the Colorado River, 90 miles south of Las Vegas. County officials have said that they were so thrilled to recruit a company to the area, with the prospect of thousands of new local jobs, that they were eager to negotiate. ENN is headed by Chinese energy tycoon Wang Yusuo, who made a fortune estimated by Forbes at $2.2 billion distributing natural gas in China. Wang escorted Reid and a delegation of nine other U.S. senators on a tour of the company's clean energy operations in Langfang, and Reid featured Wang as a speaker at his 4th annual National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas last year.

Bunkerville, Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy had issued the threat in response to a long-postponed confiscation of his cattle, which he's been grazing illegally on publicly owned Mojave desert land around Gold Butte in Clark County, Nevada since 1993.
…
As many as 1,000 cattle have been counted illegally grazing on the land in years past, though Bundy claims he only owns 500 head.
Sounds like he should have simply paid for the permit. Could have saved a whole lot of trouble.
In 1998, five years after Bundy began to refuse to pay his publicly subsidized grazing fees in 1993, the BLM finally revoked his grazing permit for failure to pay those fees. Clark County then bought out that permit for $375,000 and retired them permanently to protect the desert tortoise under the Clark County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan.

"I have raised cattle on that land, which is public land for the people of Clark County, all my life."
And the Bundy Ranch;

Laughlin, Nevada and Gold Butte are two different areas. Lake Mead National recreation area and the Colorado River separate these two areas as well as Las Vegas. These two stories appear to be mixing together.
his family [Bundy] has used land in the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area since the late 1800s.
Lies, lies and more lies. I've been monitoring the various militia sites and we're looking at possibly over 1000 people being there this weekend. I truly hope nobody gets hurt. - See more at: www.abovetopsecret.com...

We keep hearing about how Bundy stopped paying the grazing fees... Why is everyone ignoring the why? BLM modified the grazing permit... I am curious as to how. I found one source that said part was it banned grazing between march and june... I havent found a source but i also seen they required him to drastically cut size of his herd... Anyone know more about how they changed the grazing permit? If it was an attemt to drive him out in first place, which is what it seems. Who the heck wouldnt fight them all the way? Its his and his families lively hood.edit on 12-4-2014 by swimmer15 because: (no reason given)
I read that he was over grazing the land. From what I remember reading, the permit was good for 140 head of cattle and the BLM counted over 900. There used to be 53 ranchers and Bundy is now the last so maybe he was taking that into account. Even so the BLM asked if he could maintain 500 or so, IIRC.
I havent found a source but i also seen they required him to drastically cut size of his herd
All that he had to do was pay for the permit. It sounds like he is an angry stubborn man that hates the federal government. How good is that for the livelyhood of his family. If there is going to be public outcry and we are going to make a stand here against the federal governement then we should very damn well get the facts straight first, don't you think?
Who the heck wouldnt fight them all the way? Its his and his families lively hood.
With so much misinformation going on with this story I would guess that this statement is BS. Harry Reid is not behind any land grab deal as there is no land grab going on. This is and always has been federal land.
She also said Harry Reid was behind this, putting one of his men to run the BLM. The government is snapping up the land.
Remember that Bundy didn’t have a current permit. He hadn’t paid since 1993, 20 years ago. So what revision? What permit?
So it makes sense if the revised grazing permit was to ban grazing during that time, but I can't confirm it.
Keep in mind he has been using public land without a permit for over 20 years. What changes does Bundy care about? He is going to do whatever he likes.
That one doesn't mention the fall but adds that they were changed to be renewed annually. I'm really curious as to what all changes were made.
China is not building a solar power station in Nevada. The deal fell through over a year ago apparently. Another ATS member posted information that can be found here.
My question is "Why isn't an American company building the factory?".
LDragonFire
Wasn't the project with the Chinese cancelled a year ago?
That is not how this works and Bundy knows it.
Bundy has openly said that he would pay the grazing fees to the state of Nevada instead of the BLM
No nightmare, no short straw. Just a stubborn, angry old man. Bundy knows how to do this as he has purchased permits from the BLM before as with all the other ranchers that were in that area. You don’t pay the state for a permit of usage on federal land!
Bundy has attempted to pay the fees to the state numerous times and was told that he couldn't because the BLM maintained the area.....this is a bureaucratic nightmare and unfortunately Bundy is stuck with the short straw.

Grazing fees are just an excuse to bankrupt the victim and drive them out of town.
Ranching has always been an important part of our nation’s heritage and continues throughout the West on public lands that belong to all Americans. This is a matter of fairness and equity, and we remain disappointed that Cliven Bundy continues to not comply with the same laws that 16,000 public lands ranchers do every year.
