Being inspired by our latest round of twits and trolls (seems like we have a few new ones kiddies), I've just launched a new "IGNORE" feature for all forums.

Members will now see an "Ignore" button in the profile of the author of messages within threads. If the member-in-question is becoming a bothersome little twit, all you need to do is click on the IGNORE button, and you'll no longer see their posts.

I still need to add a feature to your personal Control Panels to remove any of the IGNORES you've applied... so don't go ignoring people you like just for fun (not yet anyway).

We may utlimately tie this feature into an automatic moderator alerts once a member receives 20 "ignores" or something like that.

So, recalling that advice to ignore the twits and trolls, ( www.abovetopsecret.com... ) this will make it much easier to simply ignore the fools.

One bit of additional info, Administrators will be able to remove all ignores for any given user if, in our opinion, the twit/troll has learned their lesson and changed their ways (everyone deserves a second chance).

Carry on.

(By the way... you can't ignore staff
)

Grand idea William, oh may this new feature prove to be within the grasp of those unable to tolerate or conduct decent type set expression.

I just ignored myself without even reading this thread and now I'm not going to be able to see my posts?

I removed your ignore on yourself.

Important safety tip kiddies, don't ignore yourself.

...

Okay, for the benefit of the innocents, I add some code that prevents the display of an ignore button within your own profile.

Well then... they would need to clean up their act so that kind-spirited Administrators would give them a second change, and remove all the ignores that have been applied.

Will the ignored person know he or she is being ignored by another or any other in particular???

No.

We'll only be displaying "Total Ignores" in the member's mini-profile to the left of their message within threads.

BWA-hahaha! '67 has a decent excuse, Oz-Chris, do you? Please, don't tell me you've been drinking Fosters! A good, self-respecting Aussie would know better!

Hmmmm... while I am against trolls and twits, this power, in the hands of members could be misused. I hope not, but Illmatic brought up a good point. I am not sure that this is the best way to deal with bothersome buggers, I will accept it.

I refuse to ignore anyone.
But thanks for giving me the option to do so if I so choose.

One question:

Will people actually use the ignore button?

It is too much human nature to attempt to persue an arguement to what they perceive as a "win" for them... (Yes, I readily admit to being guilty of this myself).. However, when both parties are rather bullheaded *whistling* you just get a huge arguement that niether is going to concede on.

Many times in this situation, hitting the ignore button is going to seem to be an admission of failure... therefore, I see it being used only on a limited basis, and many flamewars are likely to continue unabated.

It would be better to trace the buggers location using their IP address and then go around to their house and Shoot them three times in the head. No need for an Ignore button then

I think this could cause some confusion. For instance, there may be times where you dont know who someone is replying to if you cant read their post.

It's a good option though, I wont use it.
