I'm currently living next door to someone who has rented the house with two kids, has never worked, has never shown intention to and is UK born and bred. I wouldn't limit our issues to immigrants.

Neither would I.

And one of those issues is the ongoing process of demonising all benefit recipients as scrounging layabouts.
I know for a fact some are, the vast majority most definitely aren't.

Another greater concern is the tax avoidance and tax evasion that numerous corporations and big business etc commit, amazingly sometimes with the knowledge and consent of HMRC. That costs The Treasury between £20-140 billion per year depending on which source you read - puts the estimated £1-2 billion in benefit fraud in perspective doesn't it.
But sure, we demonise and marginalise those on benefits instead of the major league crooks and villains.

This is all off-topic - I'm sure we'll get to discuss these issues in more depth in a more appropriate thread some time.

Being British is about driving a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then traveling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

Hmmm....

Peace,

Korg.

It might be for you, why do you assume it is for everyone else?

Come on!!!

So you drive a British Car?

Drink in an English Pub a Traditional English ale? On the way home you pick up a Sunday roast then do you?

You sit on an English manufactures sofa, watching Hollyoaks on your English TV???

Tell me this is true and I'll go to ladbrooks and place a bet for a cool £1000 you are wrong!

Peace,

Korg.

edit on 10-4-2014 by Korg Trinity because: (no reason given)

A) I don't drive, I do use public transport, mainly trains made in Derby

B) I'm not actually aware of any 'Oirish' pubs anywhere near me, strangely the last one I went to was in Switzerland and when I do go to a pub I tend to drink ale from whatever the local micro brewery is

C) I don't use a sofa although the one we have was made somewhere about 15 miles away, the chairs I sit on were made roughly 3 miles away. I'm glad to say I don't watch Hollyoaks but fair play to anyone who does, actually, question time and newsnight are the only staples in my viewing, but I do enjoy law and order UK (yes, I know it uses scripts from the US version, but I prefer it)

Would you like to send me the money via paypal?

And I can tell by what you have written, and by the life style you live,,, you're a labour voter... as in you are a scocialist.

of course scocialists have no problem with giving away thier own fillings so long as the they can sit back and live off of the state and not have to worry about actually doing anything for themselves...

Bloody scocialists are the laziest people ever, they would prefer to defer on everything!

lol, you seriously couldn't be further from the truth, I've never voted Labour in my life and with the current front bench they put out, I never will. Anyhow, how are you going to transfer that £1,000? I don't live off the state, I'm really not sure why my comments would suggest I do, but hey, whatever

There's nothing Socialist about Labour, they abandoned those ideals decades ago. Brown used used the old National Front slogan 'British Jobs for British Workers' a few years back and Blair is a war criminal who appointed ATOS to fail genuinely ill/disabled people on fit for work tests, smashed the Unions via Mandy and privatised most industry via stealth.

As a social-marxist/Anarchist I have to disagree with you. I have an MSc in Applied Maths, MA in Journalism, have worked in Universities or high professions for years until recently and the majority of other socialists were lecturers and professors at Unis who put in 80+ hours a week. There are the minority swamp donkey, scruffy beard types who do bugger all, just the same as the right have a minority of landed gentry and old boys who've never done a days work in their life.

I wouldn't have described them like that but there's clearly no party worth a vote atm. Everyone should be attempting to be an MP, the private schooled MPs would have no idea what to do!

That's a common myth, the country has had a blackhole and debt since the 1700s, we only recently paid off WW2 debt to the US. Social spending and welfare decreased in real terms under the last Labour government, until the pensions crisis started. Between 1997 and 2001 Labour decreased national debt by £10bn, it was the Iraq and Afghan wars that caused the doubling and financial collapse that caused the tripling of national debt.

Scotland is subject to the same immigration laws and other stuff we have talked about, last time I checked it was also part of the UK/GB, therefore it is very much a part of this topic, as is Wales and Northern Ireland.

Not a Myth.... You are trying to sweep under the carpet!?!

It's common knowledge that Labour's uncontrolled spending breached GPD by a huge margin..... Not caused by Economic downturn although there was one following 2001 an in 2008.

Their atrocious public spending policy in an attempt to create the nanny state, left naught in our coffers to buffet the global economic crisis

Gordon Brown single highhandedly reduced the economic potential for Britain to a pittance for the next 20 years...... and you are defending them???

I second what WoogleUK said but I must add that in Scotland and Wales, it isn't an issue to be seen to be proud of your heritage, in fact it is actively promoted - in England though, you can be branded a racist and a bigot just for flying the flag.

Demographically though, Scotland is proportionally less "Scottish" than England is "English" - maybe there isn't much of an "issue" because you are allowed to actively promote "Scottishness".

Not to mention Mr Brown flogging the gold at around £200 an ounce only to watch it balloon to over £1600 an ounce in a few years. That single act alone robbed the country of billions and billions.

As time goes on I do have a theory that Brown knew ex`actly what was coming and tried to put in place more funding to the public services. He gaffed when he was heard making nasty comments about a voter which is political suicide.

What amazes me is that he never seems to be in parliament yet I thought he was still an MP. Perhaps I am wrong blair should never be allowed near a parliament again and I hope the lobbyists who want him prosecuted for war crimes get him in transit.

What grieves me is that England - as I am English and proud of my heritage which means I live on an island habited for thousands of years by my ancestors, seems to be led into disastrous wars, often in the recent past against countries that had no Central Bank err hm! and of course oil reserves for 'fellow' companies based in the USA BUT owned by residents living here who run companies such as Haliburton etc etc.

I must admit I s'n-word' and giggle when some foreigner tells me as an English man I have no culture - I usually ask if they have had a lobotomy or know nothing about the culture of the country they appear to think they can seriously influence, as they clearly know sweet nothing about the trials of dna carried out near the Cheddar Gauge where they were able to trace relatives living in the area who were the descendants of ancient bones buried in the area. It was a Time Team Tony Robinson programme and very edifying.

I do think every country needs immigration to a certain extent but it should never have got to the proportions that allow ghettos and the like to be set up. Most people settle so well but if you drag either extreme religious dogma or hate baggage when you come here, it is unlikely you will ever be truly happy with your choice of change or integrate easily.

I saw the programme. The studio guests were predominantly white which reflects the national constitution. Mr Zephania is probably english and definately has British parents. Of course if he was a white south african with one english granparent the author of the OP would have had nothing to complain about. I would call the OP highly racist and innacurate.

In fact, his mother was Jamaican and his Barbadian...If they are British, it was after the fact as they came over in the ave of immigration post-WW2.

Nice attempt at deflection and the usual throwing of the "racist" barb around, but it ain't going to fly. Whilst the studio audience may have been "predominately white", the people they were speaking too certainly weren't and Mr Zephania himself seems to be blissfully ignorant of the history and culture of these islands, despite being "British".

There is a world of difference from simply having a passport or being born somewhere to actually "feeling" part of the nation and the way this guy speaks and behaves in life is not British at all, but in keeping with his West Indian roots. Culturally, he is more Jamaican than he is an Englishman, which is fine but lets be honest about it instead of trying to sweep being "English" or "British" under the rug.

This is where we really get down to the crux of the matter. When ever this has come up with coloured friends, they all insist of being called Black Africans, which opens the question how can a person who calls themselves a Black African regard themselves as an English man? Personally I couldn't care less what they call themselves, friends are friends. But there is a schism in the minds of many when they come to confront living in England as to where they feel themselves 'at home' and whether they mentally fit in with the population which is predominently white.

This discussion is more to do with immigrants obtaining jobs which factor political policy and give them a political right of say over the population especially when it comes to the subject of immigration in which you cannot deny immigrants have a vested interest.
