Yes.....Our world is about to change and its called "Augmented Reality"

The following are some videos and articles (along with my own thoughts) regarding the next technological revolution we are all about to witness. Exciting times in deed.

The below video is a TEDx presentation by Tomi Ahonen. He goes on to explain how augmented reality is the natural and unavoidable next step for our world. The presentation is a very interesting and telling look into our near future

The 8 mass mediums
1st- PRINT
2nd- RECORDINGS
3rd- CINEMA
4th- RADIO
5th- TV
6th- INTERNET
7th- MOBILE DEVICES
8th- AUGMENTED REALITY

The next video displays the top 5 augmented reality glasses either on the market right now our will be by 2015. Personally.... my money is on the "Atheer one" by Atheer labs set for realease in December of this year.

If your interested in getting your hands on one of these beauties, below are the links to their respective websites.
META Pro
Recon JET
GOOGLE Glass
Atheer One
Glass Up

The 7th sense- Mind officially blown
The above is a link to an awesome article that goes in depth about the ways that our life will be changing. Its well worth the read. But for those that no likey link clicking I also brought over some highlights from the article. These excerpts are only to wet your whistle though, the real meat is found in the article. Some very cool videos are also within the linked page.

My past experience as an illusionist magician gives me a unique capacity of observation and understanding about how people interact with the real and virtual world. Because, to a certain extent, magic is already augmented reality or virtual reality! I have learned to decipher what, unconsciously, controls the human behavior. And now, this is what I use to nourish my creations. While computing is shrinking to the point of no longer being visible and the insatiable need for immediacy leads us to dematerialize physical media, there is a time when humans must act and interact with this invisible and pervasive computing and this digital dust. Creating these vectors which recompose this information or creating an anchor as a tangible link between the real world and its computer model is precisely my job. And this is why I am an innovative HMI Designer, because my creative process is not based on the technologies of the market, but on a personal intuition of the future.

For AR to take off, we clearly need suitable devices that allow us to manipulate these alternative realities as we handle the mother reality. But above all, there is evidence beyond that: in order to materialize all future uses, there needs to be a common ground, a common grid ... a matrix!

So to simplify: this awakening world that I call the Egosystem will be a real-time 3D copy of our world. It will be the perfect mesh of our environment and if we consider this 3D mesh like the one of a video game , we then understand the incredible reach of the tool. This enable’s us to create an unlimited range of possibilities since everything is programmable and configurable!

Since Artificial Intelligence has made rapid progress, we will see the birth of holobots. Indeed, even if robots eventually become part of our daily lives, for obvious reasons of cost and utility, holobots of comfort, will be those who will populate our world first. Through our augmented reality devices we will be able to converse in natural language with these digital agents which will be our personal valets. They will be the natural extension of Siri and Google now and will be fully integrated into our real environment. These holographic humanoids confidants generated in the cloud, will have as mission to help us in our everyday tasks, advise us, memorize and then restore all the information we might need.

Still don't think this is the future???
Well some very big players are betting that it is.
We already know about GOOGLE's AR involvement, but just a few weeks ago Facebook bought the Virtual reality hardware company "Oculus VR" for $2,000,000,000
Facebook buys Oculus VR- A new social future

Sony announces "Project Morpheus"
Project Morpheus

It didn't take long before every "First World" country had a smartphone in the pockets of nearly all their residents. I bet if your reading this your within arms reach of a smart phone right now. I see this being the natural progression for augmented reality glasses. I feel that with-in 5 years AR glasses will be as common as the phones in our pockets.

I'm excited for the future of what AR will bring. A new landscape for humanity and a world forever changed.
What are your thoughts my ATS brethren?

I had time to watch the Atheer video on the provided link, that is inspiring! I can't imagine what the future holds for technology advances. I just hope I don't get too old to enjoy all of the new gadgets coming out before they actually get released. I don't want to have to call the kids every 10 minutes to explain it to me.

yeah, I think tech is going to evolve faster than we can keep up with. I have one of the VR headset from OculusVR. Its just the first developers version but my 6 year old son absolutely loves it. He picked up on it right away and seems to feel right at home with it on. He goes "virtual" skydiving at least a few times a week. And I virtually fly a MIG through the Himalayan canyons at minimum once a day. What a rush!

I think what is coming will be really interesting. Thank you OP for sharing a tidbit with us!!!
I've noticed the past few years, the speed race has slowed down a bit, and now they seem to be expanding into other areas, like this. S n F for u!

Why is the title of your thread the 7th Sense?
Did I miss the memo about the existence of a 6th sense?

No you didn't miss the memo. The 7th sense was just the title name of the article in the OP.
Supposedly the 6th sense is psychic ability.

Honestly, looks like a lot of nonsense to me. Its cool and all but idk. The vr glasses spoken of seem like they could be pretty cool though. Skydiving, Mig flying id consider buying that.

I guess if maybe your work was heavy into computers it could come in handy, especially while driving down the freeway and you need those spread sheets finished.

and I can see it now, folks here complaining the pages don't load right on their glasses lol...

The game is called "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Seriously....that's what it is called.

But it will be useless unless you have one of these. Oculus Rift- Virtual Reality headset
I am one of the thousands of developers for them, and I have one

The consumer release date hasn't been set yet but we are all hoping for Q1 of 2015.

These things are not that impressive at all.... They might make a few nerds happy, but, definitely not "world changing".

HAHAHA!! Yeah I can see that as being a problem. Maybe they will have disable mode for driving to where you can only see GPS info or something.

Did you watch any of the vids? AR is going to take over and the implications of use are virtually (no pun intended) endless

yeah i've been following all this # (thanks for the update)
i don't like where it's going, i think it's crazy.. half the world starving & can't find gainful employment
maybe they oughta make these glasses rose-colored?

Oh I think you will be eating those words soon enough. I doubt you have ever tried any VR or AR glasses as your tune would be very different.

I've had people over at my house watching others use my Oculus Rift and before they try it they have pretty much the same sentiment as you. Then they themselves put it on and a gaping smile comes across their face usually followed by "HOLY CRAP!! This is awesome!!"

I guess we shall all see

I have already pre-ordered the Atheer one glasses. Its going to be a very merry Christmas in deed.

Sorry I'm a horrible cook
You don't want any of my cookies.
And I agree with you that there are MANY people starving across the world but technological progress will march on regardless

And this is the next step in that progress. Im already developing software for online shopping (a virtual mall if you will).
One step closer to the movie "Surrogates" coming true.

Careful folks, I have an feeling this could be the mark of the beast. 'To recieve a mark on your right hand or forhead' first smart phones in our hands and now glasses on our forhead. Might be something to seriously consider.

It's a strange new world we're heading into.

I don't even think Harold Camping himself would buy that.... It's the people who think we are in "special" thimes, that you gotta watch out for.

First off, he made a mistake from the get go when he tried to name the first mass media. That was not print, it was the spoken word in the form of story tellers who passed the stories down from generation to generation.

So then this would be the eighth really? And it's not a sense it's a form of um media?

Augmented reality? Like Second Life with glasses so you can sink even further into it? Really? Talk about giving up on humans and humanity and nature.

This reminds me of that movie where no one ever left their chair or combed their hair or got dressed and atrophied because they just sent out androids of themselves as their proxies to present themselves in real life. Can't remember the name, but it was spooky.

Overall, this doesn't excite me all that much. I won't be one of the first few million line to get it and pay mass quantities of dollars that I'm sure someone is salivating to make for it. If the time comes where I absolutely cannot do something without it, maybe I'll get it.

I might be a closet Luddite though (loose definition) because I take very long, sometimes strongly self-enforced breaks from all media and gadgets that deliver them. Because I think that's important. But then again, I've been around this stuff a very long time.

The movie was called "Surrogates"
I don't think you would use Augmented Reality glasses for Second life. That would most likely be for the realm of Virtual reality glasses.

The difference is, with AR glasses you digitally interact with the "real" world and with Virtual Reality glasses it takes you to another place altogether. You wouldn't use VR glasses if you wanted to walk around. You'd bump into stuff.
I've bumped my face on my desk a few times while "skydiving"
