I watched the AMA unfold over the two days Jessie was here in real time as much as is possible. I'm a bit confused and a little disappointed. Either I'm not understanding how the AMA's really work or there is something odd here.. People started asking questions early. Around page 10 of the thread, Jessie starts to answer questions. Around page 16 or 17 a new day starts and folks ask more questions, then for the last few pages of the thread Jessie seems to answer some questions until his time is up - What gets me is it seems there were an Awful lot of questions that did not get answered. It seems I'm not understanding how these are set up - or at least IMO they could be set up or structured differently to maximize the chances folks get their question answered. Food for thought Staff and mods.

So in Jessie's case, how did he do it ( or how did it work) - was he instructed to pick and choose the questions he wanted to answer? Was he instructed to answer each question in order as it came, was he asked to try to answer all questions that were posted for each day? What was responcible for folks not getting their questions answered and how can this be remedied for the future?

( reading over the thread, do you guys even see where I'm coming from or am I barking up the wrong tree?)

The thread was opened 1 hour before Jesse jumped on, hence the huge pile of questions before a response from The Mind. Same with day 2.

I noticed this too, there were a lot of questions he didn't answer (including mine). I'm guessing he didn't respond to some because either he didn't know the answer, wasn't interested in answering some and maybe others were already asked. During the Ben Swann AMA my question was the only one unanswered, but then I noticed that someone before me had already asked it, woops. Anyway, they aren't obligated to answer every single question if they don't want to although most do try.

ETA- Jesse pretty much answered them in order while skipping some on the first day, the second day he seemed to use a different method. I don't think there is a requirement for them to do it in any specific format, though I could be wrong.

Each guest only has so much time to answer questions. Sometimes we get lucky, Bill Yenne is still popping in when he has time. They have to answer as many of them as they can in that time.

Sometimes questions are the same or similar to another question so they may choosr not to answer the repeats.

As far as I am aware it is up to them what they answer.

I think we should cut him a break.

Honestly, I am sure he was pleasantly surprised by the amount of input and the quality of the questions.

He most likely realized there just wasn't enough time.

His answers may have been short or few but they where pretty good.

I still say the slay down comment on Boymonkey was the best.

I think ATS should say who will be on with about 1 weeks notice, Start a thread where everyone posts questions, still 1 week before and up to the day before the guest arrives and the, say, 20 questions with the most stars, or that staff or owners or Guest likes the most, those are then asked on the actual AMA thread.

Because these threads move so quick and get so big, much of it is lost in the noise.

I think my idea would solve that and give time to sort out the questions

Hmm maybe we're not seeing where you are coming from. Or maybe you're not understanding the replies. I don't think there's anything the mods can do to make more questions be answered in AMA's. It's totally up to the guest. The Jesse AMA was pretty clear cut. A time was announced when he was going to login (some people were confused about that) and it was stated that people would be given 1 hour before he signed on to ask the questions, although it did end up being a few hours before he came online. Other than giving 2 extra hours to ask questions I dunno what the problem with the way it was set up could be from your standpoint.

I noticed it, and its hard not to for anyone who reads the posts. I figured he really didnt care to much about what we at ATS had to ask him. I have had some Great AMA questions and answers before, and it really depends on who is being questioned and whether they want to take the time to actually get questioned. waiting 20 hours to answer is NOT going to work.

Hey Op don't feel bad ,my question was 3rd on the list ,and it didn't get answers.

But i agree with you ,i think the AMA should be structured differently so the questions asked can be maximized .

I did see allot of great questions go unanswered..

But at the same time i am greatfull for his AMA .

Even though he seemed to come off a little harsh to me..

But that's Jesse , a no nonsense type of dude

Peace

Something else I noticed.. many times Jessie did not use the reply with quote feature so when he replied to a question you would have to go many pages back to read the original question so the answer made sense. Can we mandate or ask the guests to always use the reply with quote feature?

~~~~~~~~
On the question and answer part, I just think it could be done better. For instance, ask the guest how many questions they feel they can reasonably answer in the time that guest has and only accept that amount of questions, first come first serve. This can lessen the amount of unanswered questions and the thread will read much better, more coherent. Look at Day 2 of the AMA, Lots of folks asked questions but the answers were much fewer than Day 1. People spent time and energy on formulating questions that were good and trying not to duplicate questions. They got left in the cold for whatever reason. To me this can be easily avoided, if you cap the questions to match the number of answers that can be given. Perhaps set the questions up an entire 24 hours before the quest is to arrive, giving the guest more time to formulate good answers and also weed out any questions that are not appropriate. This may also help cut down on duplicate questions because folks have more time to digest what is asked already and to formulate other questions.
Perhaps none of my ideas above are good enough, no matter, they are just my opinions but I do think something needs to be done for the good of the AMA threads - they need to be able to be read better more coherently and not such a mess.
Can someone post a link to the Boymonkey comeback, I've seen it commented on and pointed to but don't remember seeing it. thanks.
I think it's fine as it is. The questions are asked almost in real time, they get to pick and choose, and then there is some follow up with some posters. It's not a news conference, it's guest choice. He passed over the first and best question in fact, and likely missed it because of its eye-blinding brilliance. But yeah, the more questions the better, so the guest could speak to what they both know and are interested in talking about.
I see we are thinking along similar lines.
Edit: BTW folks, I love Jessie and am not picking on him. I'm using him in my example because that's the AMA I'm most familiar with. I'm not saying he did anything wrong at all.
does anybody think he could answer all questions?? of course he would pick and choose which to answer...any AMA thread will get out of hand with the amount of questions asked and to think that your individual question will positivly be answered is sort of naive...is there any tally on how many questions were asked? would be interesting to find out...we live is this me me me society and people think that thier opinion actual counts..............
There were roughly 20 questions per page, so by the time Jesse started answering questions on page 10 there were around 200 questions already.
Exactly - That's my point.
It becomes an unnecessary and unreasonable exercise in futility. Going into Day 2, knowing I could only answer a 10th of the 200 questions on the first day, I'd feel like a heel for coming back to skip tons more questions. The guests don't need to be so bogged down with questions that it becomes unmanageable and all members who do ask questions should have a good shot at getting those questions answered. This area need proper balance IMO.
If you go back to the thread, you will see that springer went in and added a quote of the question for every answer now.
boymonkey74 asked
You know Arnie and he became a governor like yourself and he claimed he had bigger arms than you while you claim you had bigger arms...so did you really have bigger arms?.(I know I just thought a bit of light relief would chill you out dude)
Jesse Ventura
You know what my answer to that is? Who cares! That's my answer.
Put it this way, we both got bigger arms than you, boymonkey74.
I still had the text archive that I did of the thread handy. I believe that is what is being referred to lol
A simple way would be, just to answer them in the order they where asked.Thats is just good manners. If you don't have time to answer them all fine. If you don't know, say so in a Quick one liner.If you don't want to answer write no comment and keep moving.It did appear to have no substance and be selective.
i didn't notice that, thanks for the info. Kudos to Springer for that but again, this is extra work that can be avoided. I know many of these guests may not be used to how modern forums work let alone the ATS forum which is a unique animal of it's own LOL.. I wouldn't consider it an insult if I was asked to use the quote button as a matter of course.
