New report on ice extent for the poles is out .."Arctic sea ice reached its annual maximum extent on March 21, after a brief surge in extent mid-month. Overall the 2014 Arctic maximum was the fifth lowest in the 1978 to 2014 record. Antarctic sea ice reached its annual minimum on February 23, and was the fourth highest Antarctic minimum in the satellite record. While this continues a strong pattern of greater-than-average sea ice extent in Antarctica for the past two years, Antarctic sea ice remains more variable year-to-year than the Arctic."

"The extent of multiyear ice within the Arctic Ocean is distinctly greater than it was at the beginning of last winter. During the summer of 2013, a larger fraction of first-year ice survived compared to recent years. This ice has now become second-year ice. Additionally, the predominant recirculation of the multiyear ice pack within the Beaufort Gyre this winter and a reduced transport of multiyear ice through Fram Strait maintained the multiyear ice extent throughout the winter."

"There is a growing need for reliable sea ice predictions. An effort to gather and summarize seasonal sea ice predictions made by researchers and prediction centers began in 2008. The project, known as the SEARCH Sea Ice Outlook, has collected more than 300 predictions of summer month ice extent. A new study published in Geophysical Research Letters by researchers at NSIDC, University of New Hampshire, and University of Washington reveal a large range in predictive skill. The study found that forecasts are quite accurate when sea ice conditions are close to the downward trend that has been observed in Arctic sea ice for the last 30 years. However, forecasts are not so accurate when sea ice conditions are unusually higher or lower compared to this trend. Results from the study also suggest that while ice conditions during the previous winter are an important predictor (such as the fraction of first-year versus multiyear ice), summer weather patterns also have a large impact on the amount of ice that will be left at the end of summer."

A question just popped into my mind when I read this post. Do you think the scientists are personally preparing for this? Or do they think the worst won't happen in their lifetime?

John C. Beale.... While doing a bit of surfing around I came across this guy .The last name rang some bells from a story unrelated to the article .I am not sure if it wasn't relating to 911 or another conspiracy. From my memory I think it was a Peter B Collins show or boiling frogs ...Any how I though I would post the piece I found as it relates to the climate stuff .wattsupwiththat.com... this story is from Dec.2013 but it does show some of the corruption within the movement .He got 30 months in the clink ...peace

There seems to be a conflict within GAW about the need to reduce co2 levels and how to go about it .

"Dirty Coal Revived As Europe Speeds Green Retreat" wattsupwiththat.com...

"With Greenpeace successfully forcing the shutdown of nuclear power, and keeping out fracking for gas, what’s left? A boom in coal. In fact, over the next two years Germany will build 10 new power plants for hard coal. Europe is in a coal frenzy, building power plants and opening up new mines, practically every month. It might sound odd that a boom in German coal is the result of Greenpeace’s political success. –Ezra Levant"

When Did Global Warming Begin? is a question I asked on this thread and Page gave a answer but he really wasn't serious .He had said 1947 and I think that his guess is as good as anyone's is . I did find a article thoug that touches on the subject I wanted to share .. wattsupwiththat.com...

"There have been a number of statements made recently about “Global Warming Deniers”, e.g. “White House: Global Warming Deniers Wrong to Reference Polar Vortex” US News, “Watch The Daily Show mock Trump and other global warming deniers” The Week and “Global warming denier Jim Inhofe: ‘Fewer and fewer’ senators believe in climate change ‘hoax’”. The Raw Story

Given the apparent prevalence of “Global Warming Deniers”, it seems prudent to take a look at the data so that everyone is clear when Global Warming began and what is undeniable. As such, from the following EPICA Dome C Ice Core record from Vostok, Antarctica, over the last 450,000 years Earth has experienced numerous Glacials, commonly referred to as Ice Ages, and Interglacials, like the Holocene Interglacial we are experiencing today:" ....peace

Climate change has always occurred on all continents. I'm sure it will continue to do so.

Everyone denying climate change is essentially a pro-capitalist, pro-elite, pro-status quo shill. No system which needs perpetual growth and exponential annual energy increases can help but not drastically harm the environment.

It's no coincidence that all the climate change deniers are funded (to the tune of billions of dollars) by the most horrible Right Wing think tanks, the same think tanks that pushed the Gulf War.

Living on the coast for the past 20 years, I've noticed the effects of sea acidification first hand.

The climate is indeed changing - as it always does.

finance.yahoo.com...

Yahoo Finance for climate news?

from the article
Three months ago, it snowed in Cairo, Egypt for the first time in 112 years.

It's like the climate is behaving weirdly - since it's snow, it can't be driven by increased heating... right?

from the article
All of this is part of a new ground-breaking study completed by Unit Economics, an investment think-tank from Boston. They are a non-partisan group with no axe to grind on this issue; like me, they are here to make money for their clients.

Oh look, a bunch of economists/investment bankers say that it's actually global cooling. Why ever might they suggest that?

from the article
In the year 1816, storms dumped snow across New England and Quebec in June, lake ice lasted until August in Pennsylvania, and failed crops led to food riots in Britain and France.

How weird, right? It's not like anything else was going on to cause that but global cooling!

The dust from Mount Tambora, which had erupted in early April 1815, had shrouded the globe. And with sunlight blocked, 1816 did not have a normal summer.

Why is this a central point in your link in favor of global cooling cycles?

I am also concerned about ocean acidification. Unlike global warming, it seems to be a problem that isn't made up. Which is of course why it almost never covered by liberal news outlets who mostly are concerned only when a problem is politically convenient. I expect Bill Gates, Warrent Buffet, and the other wealthy socialist minions will be donating approximately $0 to help with that problem annually over the next ten years.

I have good news about capitalism. It doesn't exist. Congratulations, you won. So you don't have to worry about the capitalists ruining everything for you now. Obama will save us all with his Marxism.

Even more scientists agree that climate change is a real problem. Scientists around the world are reaching consensus.

So once again more of "we are more so we must be right" kind of approach?...

You see, people like you continue to fail to understand the difference between the hoax that is "anthropogenic global warming" and real Climate Change.

The proponents of the hoax have been so wrong that they had to change the name of their false claims to just "Climate Change"... jeez, it's not like "Climate Change" has ever happened before right?

Of course Climate Change is happening... It is ALWAYS happening... The climate is never static.

We know that the proponents of "AGW", aka as the claim that mankind is the cause for Climate Change, have been caught time, after time, after time, after time, after time in lies.

The AGW hoax revolves around "GCMs" (Global Computer Models) which have been shown to be wrong. GCMs that do not take into account many factors that have an influence in "Climate Change". So, even after all this time that the main proponents of this "hoax' have been caught lying, changing the data, hide real data, publishing false information and, among others, to even resort to calling anyone who dares to question their "hoax" as "an enemy of humanity" etc, etc, etc; they now continue to claim "but we are more so we must be right"?...

Even their claims of "we are more so we must be right" has been shown to be a lie since there are many scientists who do not believe in AGW, many don't know how much influence "mankind" has on the global climate, many others think mankind has a slight influence, while others think "mankind" has some influence, and then there are those who swear that mankind is more powerful than all the forces in not only the world, but the universe and rules it all...

This is obviously another attempt by those in power to gain even more power by trying to claim "mankind" is the cause for Climate Change, and their solution has ALWAYS been to form a One World Government that controls everything and everyone on this Earth.

Good luck believing in those people...

There isn't much one can do to "prepare" for a changing world.
The worst won't happen for more than one hundred years but that doesn't mean things will be getting more and more unpleasant in the near term.

For the near term the damage is pretty much done.

Aw c'mon. Noah built an ark - and that was 5000 years ago!

Seriously though, I think if we put our heads together we could protect everyone's children.

When is the BEST going to happen?

How can I prepare for the changes 100 years away, what model says we have to wait for these changes ?

When is someone REAL going to take charge and clean up some of the messes going on?

I honestly don't know whether I believe "climate change" is real or not. Frankly, I am not all that scientifically inclined. However, I find it easy to believe the "scientific community" could easily be subject to the same kind of corruption as any other community. These people typically think as a collective and they don't seem to take too kindly to dissent from a few naysayers unless those people happen to be widely respected.

At any rate, as they always say, if there's a will, there's a way. Science (like any human endeavor) is not even close to infallible. Especially when it's attached to political motives.
