Fireman detained for not moving truck!

Yet another instance of police over stepping their boundaries.

The fireman was asked to move his truck but he refused because he was treating his patient....he then was detained for over 20 minutes in the back of a police car.

WTF? He was first on the scene....His truck had flashing lights....He was treating a patient...What the heck was this cop thinking?!?

This is very similar to the incident that happened a few months ago when another fireman refused to moving his fire engine (which was acting as a shield from on coming traffic) although in that instance the cop was actually arrested(charges later dropped)

My point is it should have never gotten to that point....They should be working together.

This stuff makes me so angry.

New Roads Police Chief Kevin McDonald reportedly told the news station that the fireman made a sarcastic comment to the officer when he was asked to move his truck — and that’s reportedly why he was detained. The chief said he does not plan on disciplining the officer involved.

Porter, the victim who needed help, said the cop should be “fired or suspended” for detaining a first responder who was only “helping” her.

“He wasn’t just parking his car to park it,” she said.

A very similar incident recently occurred in Chula Vista, Calif., where a fireman tending to a victim at the scene of a serious rollover car accident was arrested for refusing to move his truck.

Sadly it sounds like business as usual... Detain someone because they upset you (or possibly question your authority).

I was going to say, 'already posted' never thinking that this would happen again.

It is about time that people realize that you can make a citizens arrest of a police officer. Jeez man, they even come with their own handcuffs. Then you can let the courts decide.

I am incensed by the Police Chief's comment that he will not discipline the officer.

This is so stupid it is unbelievable.

The people need to start arresting the Police.

New age overly sensitive cops should toughen up a bit. Take their guns away and they would all run away like little girlies.

How? They have the guns, they are the gang itself, they hold the keys to the jail cell.

Maybe we need to go after their employers instead. How many times does a mayor back their play without having to answer the question: "How can you stand for this?"

Allow me to be the devils advocate for a second. If you'll watch the video you see that he does get there first but then the ambulance pulls up beside his truck completely blocking the road.
Now if you are a cop, and you need to get the road clear, who are you going to ask to move? The Firefighter or the Paramedic?

Asking the Firefighter to move was the smarter move. So he got there first big deal. If there was a fire then I would say the paramedic needed to move.

Cops starting "wars" with firefighters, just really weird - I still mostly believe that they are on the same side, working together in an emergency situation.

10 years as a Law Enforcement Officer and I cannot imagine doing this. Anytime I needed them to move a truck for a specific reason at an accident scene, they never gave me an issue, but then again I didn't ask them to move it just because I felt like it, I had an actual reason it needed to be moved.

The issue is this. EVERY profession has Aholes and people who do not belong in said profession, but the badges have the public spotlight and being an idiot shows 10 fold.

I think if the first on scene, first responder is helping a patient the road can stay closed for a few minutes. And detaining someone over sarcasm is just a power trip thing...

I understand that but there should have been no reason to be sarcastic. There wasn't a fire and the Paramedics are there now to replace the Firefighter. They weren't there to assist him plus they have all the right equipment to help the patient. It was time for the Firefighter to step off. If he wanted to help further then he could then go clear the road way.

I see all the videos of cops doing wicked things and I get that yes we need to take control of it, but this isn't one of those times.

Per the police chief, the firefighter was detained for making a sarcastic remark --If sarcasm is enough to get one detained these days, most of us are in a lot of trouble...

That's the officers fault then for saying it was over sarcasm because maybe it should have been for obstruction instead.

He detained him in the police car for over twenty minutes. He didn't take him downtown and book him. Big difference.
Yea maybe the cop should have chilled a little more but maybe the Firefighter should have too. It usually takes two to tango and when big heads go toe to toe nobody wins. This is yet another example of that.

ETA: and let's not lose sight that this is not only about the question of transferring care to the paramedics which may or may not have been completed (since there is an investigation into whether the cop interfered with a firefighter doing his job) but also about a cop detaining someone because of sarcasm and a police chief who is okay with that action... any way you look at it that particular piece can't be defended.

Yes I know but since the Paramedics were there and no fire was present then there was no more need for his assistance. What do you want him to do next? Ride in the ambulance?

Even thought the victim says he was the one helping her, by all means we should then detain him for sarcasm.

Okay so you know he said something sarcastic. What was it? Yea we don't know.

Maybe he said something like " hey pppporky why don't you do something constructive and move the truck yourself or maybe the donuts gots ya sluggish."

It's all speculation really. We weren't there and at least he didn't pistol whip him and shoot him on that lady's floor.
