Computer program reveals invisible motion in videos - Amazing!!!!!

Hi all. Did a search but could not find anything on this cutting edge tech.

It's a computer program which puts videos through an algorithm which allows you to SEE INVISIBLE MOTION in the video. Hard to explain but have a look at the video... I was amazed.

Here is s a short three minute video of what I am think is absolutely amazing tech which has numerous real life applications.

What's in the video (I don't click on all links)? Can you describe what kind of invisible motion exists in videos? Insects and stuff?

Wow... The amount of applications this could be used in is nothing short of astounding.

I cant wait to see where all of this tech goes. Ill probably get the source code when other things get less busy.

In the video it shows how the process effects images of people, so you can see very subtle movements of the eye, and even the blood pulsing in the face. It's really quite remarkable and could have a multitude of uses. I also think it's amazing that they released all the source code for free, so this technology will be available to whoever wants it for whatever purpose. The paranormal enthusiast in me wants to see it applied to ghost hunting videos!

I haven't seen the vid, but from what you say can this be used on the Zapruder film to extract new information? Or is it just for videotape?

EDIT: thanks DS, for the description. Maybe those ghosts (and UFO's) can't hide now, and neither can those who fake them.

Hard to explain. Say you can give the program a video of some one sleeping. Normally you would not see their pulse, running through their neck area. But now you would clearly see it amplified in the video. Same with if you gave it a video of an actor with his or her face in the video. You would see the blood rushing to the face in the different areas each time the heart beated.

All this as if you was watching the original movie only all this stuff magnified. Like I said hard to explain, but I think 3 minutes of your time is def. worth it for this amazing tech.

I'll have to think about this for awhile. There has to be numerous things that I personally could use this for. They did say that the code is posted online, yes?

Oh my god I never though about using it to hunt for ghosts. So take a video on your phone of the stop your cat or dog looks at even though you cannt see anything there and run it through this program! Amazing!

I believe as long as the source is digital. So yes just transfer the film to digital format..

It would be worthwhile to at least try it, but I don't think the results would reveal any additional information since the original film is in such a low resolution. The technology works by taking a pixel, and determining it's color averages (and the color averages of the surrounding pixels) and then amplifying those values. It does this for the entire image, for every frame. At least thats how I interpreted the explanation given in the video. So it might have an undesirable effect on footage that is old and grainy (and wouldn't work at all with non-digital imagery). Maybe some enhanced digital footage would work, however.

Would be neat to see the enhanced footage of the patterson-gimlin film processed with this effect, although I'm not sure you would get much out of it since it is black and white. It could reveal more detail about muscle movements if it worked, however.

If the camera was stationary and the footage was filmed at a reasonable resolution, I think it could be useful in that regard. But it won't do anything for grainy, shaky footage.

Very cool.

And although I can think of many great uses for this technology, I can also see it how it could be abused.

I bet law enforcement will be all over this for all sorts of reasons. Including giving people the equivalent of a lie detector test without ever getting permission to perform one as I'm sure it wouldn't take long to experiment with people lying and telling the truth and measuring and noting the differences, etc.

I bet folks here can think of many others without trying too hard.

Or I might be just spending too much time reading in the Posse Comitatus forum today...

Our current technological paradigm frequently tends to design things that control individuals rather than enable them to be self-sufficient. I have no doubt whatsoever if this technology is publicly released (as it is), it is already in use in many sectors whose intent it is to control, control, control.

But, since it is pseudo-open source, at least we get the scraps. And the scraps are pretty darn cool.
