Guess I've seen too many action movies where there's the threat of a bomb or contagion on board (yet no real bomb or contagion on board) but military fighter planes escort the plane away from cities and prevent it from landing via authorization to shoot the plane down if it descends below a certain elevation (ie, 20,000ft).
(Contagion as in a highly contagious lethal disease).
Is there any truth to those precautions? Are planes with alleged bomb or novel contagion aboard disallowed from beginning descent, approaching mainland, landing; are they at risk of being shot down if they attempt any of these??
