QUANTUMHAND, NSA's codename for to make fake Facebook accounts and send SPAM to spy on Americans

QUANTUMHAND:
As part of its efforts to install malware on “millions” of computers worldwide, the National Security Agency impersonated Facebook to trick targets into downloading malicious code.
The Facebook trick was called QUANTUMHAND by the NSA, and was initially tested on “about a dozen targets” before being launched on a larger scale in 2010, the documents show.

“In some cases the NSA has masqueraded as a fake Facebook server, using the social media site as a launching pad to infect a target’s computer and exfiltrate files from a hard drive,” reports The Intercept in its latest expose based on top-secret documents obtained by Edward Snowden. “[The NSA] has sent out spam emails laced with the malware, which can be tailored to covertly record audio from a computer’s microphone and take snapshots with its webcam. The hacking systems have also enabled the NSA to launch cyberattacks by corrupting and disrupting file downloads or denying access to websites.”

There are dozens of programs they have been using, not only on Americans but other people worldwide!

One implant, codenamed UNITEDRAKE, can be used with a variety of “plug-ins” that enable the agency to gain total control of an infected computer. An implant plug-in named CAPTIVATEDAUDIENCE, for example, is used to take over a targeted computer’s microphone and record conversations taking place near the device. Another, GUMFISH, can covertly take over a computer’s webcam and snap photographs. FOGGYBOTTOM records logs of Internet browsing histories and collects login details and passwords used to access websites and email accounts. GROK is used to log keystrokes. And SALVAGERABBIT exfiltrates data from removable flash drives that connect to an infected computer.

I wonder, how can we control a president that thinks 'his' government has the RIGHT to spy on us as he pleases?

the most upsetting thing about this is.....they violated the terms and services of facebook by making a fake account....how dare they!

NSA needs to be scrubbed clean inside and out....top to bottom...

What I hate most about FB is that you are on there whether you want to be
or not. People put other people on there. I have not been on there since
Sept 3012, but FB keeps my bloody email posted....oh do you know so & so...
or this person & that person tagged you in a photo.

I stopped because they wouldn't let me sign in when a friend passed away
& after I passed the security BS they then wanted me to identify photos
of people. I identified 2, the 3rd I didn't know & it hit me how so wrong this
ALL is & I sent them a piece of my mind & have not logged in since.

Previously to my friend dying I had signed in & changed everything to it's
highest security level at that time. Maybe they didn't like that & was a reason
I could not access? I have never logged in with this computer.

It makes me wonder now about ALL the spam I get, how much is NSA created? Also, what about Facebook, maybe it was created by the NSA itself? It has gone through quite a few changes.
I guess My Space (remember that?) didn't allow NSA enough control, so they started with a clean sheet!
Gee, I feel so much safer knowing the government created the NSA to protect me from all those civilian 'terrorists' out there masquerading as regular folks by spying on them!
I guess they figure the next best thing to not being able to destroy the internet and freedom of speech... is to is to use it to their advantage!

At this point, it should just be closed down.

This is why you store your files on a jump drive or external hard drive. On top of that, you only access your files when you are NOT connected to the internet.

Or, you could just not use Facebook.

People never stop to think about the tracks they leave on the internet. Everything you do, upload, like, share or type is out there forever. Remember that folks -- FOREVER.

I don't get these kids that video themselves doing illegal things and sharing them on FB or Vine. We must be doing an awful job raising our kids these days to have them do such asinine things.
