Kilo-Ampere Liner Injector (KALI), that would be South Asia's first 'Star Wars' weapon whose beams could cripple the incoming missiles and aircraft, that would not only be disturbing the military balance in the region but would be a permanent source of threat and deterrence to all the Naval and Air Traffic in the region particularly the future sea traffic to Pakistan's Gawadar Port,

It is worth mentioning that the Indian government is spending not billions but thrillions of dollars on defence purchase while the hundreds of millions of the general public lack even the basic living facilities. The international financial institutes including the World Bank and the IMF are contemplating upon withholding all the financial aids to India in wake of its extravagant defence purchases from numerous countries.

this is so funny ...
also, wasn't the Indian GDP supposed to be around $3 thrillions?

Hmm.. I doubt India has such weapons and also doubt whether it is pursuing such avenues as well...highly improbable..When was this article published? And yes India cannot be spending trillions of dollars on defense because it doesn't have so much money to spend...

Btw where are you from swastika?

I think sometimes the rest of the world is going to have to learn what Europe and Japan learn after WW II. Total war sucks, its kills millions of your people, you lose precious pieces of you culture (art, architecture, ext) that can never be restored.

I totally agree with you. if such happens [WWIII] our civilisation will be wiped out, not a SINGLE country will remain intact. what a pity.

why are you 'so upset that you are breathing fire'? Is india prohibited from developing such weapons? Is pakistan incapable?

good pick ya got there..

to me, it looks like a pressurised timber treatment chamber.

Timber is inserted at one end and subjected to high pressure to impregnate it against rot and to make it fire retardant..

But i suppose as human nature is, i could be totally wrong

When they fire that weapon, will they shout TIMBERRRR!!! in advance?

The india-pakistan issue is along with the arab-israeli obsession the perputual wet dream of every arms salesman.

First I have to ask, does Pakistan really have anything worth shooting down? How does India spend "thrillions" of dollars on a defense budget and they have a GNP of only 3 "thrillion". Even the massive US defense budget isn't any where near there. It's not like India would really spend that much money on a beam weapon. Although India tested a nuclear device in 1998 I don't think that they're advanced enough to create a laser weapon capable of shooting down a missle.
This looks a lot like those reports of Iran having WMDs and satellites. Well I needed a good laugh and I guess I got it.

This system is designed to produce electron pulses of about 100 ns with an energy of about 1 MeV, current 40 kA and a power of 40 GW. This Relativistic Electron Beams (REB) thus generated will be used for the generation of High Power Microwaves (HPM) & Flash X Rays (FXR). Commissioning trials for KALI 5000 system have begun

Dont worry, KALI is a defensive weapon.
A LASER gun needs to make hole in the body of a incoming missile/plane.
KALI works on the principle of microwave-blast to incapable its electronic system . I personally belive it is always not easy to destroy a coming missile/ fighter with laser guns. It becomes even tuffer with highly resistant composites.

Lolz I take it that you're from India Swastika....Kali..hmmm..I really don't know....do you know which department is supposed to be handling its development?...maybe if you could give me a lead then I could do some home grown research on this KALI..fact or fiction...

I believe correction to this would be Thrillion of rupees, not dollars as usually used as standard.

It was interesting to read through the chit chat... for those who are doubtfull... china has already openly did a technology demonstration by shooting its own satellite. As for as Kali is considered... its a long way to come up in to use because of its sheer bulk. I have read some thing about US technology called HAARP or something similar which basically same design may be smaller and mobile. After the failure of star wars programme due to dissipating energy of laser beams in atmosphere some one must have thought about microwave beams which with sufficient force dont dessipate. But the hype over alaskan station makes me doubt that though. These things weigh several tonnes and until in the space their effectiveness is lesser. So no worries people sleep well. because now that not many comms around everybody has something to lose and no one wants to lose it. We are in the era of growling and hair raising than actually biting each other. Your concern should be the mugger around the corner of your own street

I have little doubt that both India and China are investing decent sums of money (and no doubt some top picks from their increasing pool of engineering talent) into energy weapons. Pretty much anyone with the means to do so is, don't kid yourself.

That doesn't necessarily mean any of them have come up with a superweapon that will split the planet in two
