There is NO penalty... it is an unenforceable law, ie, not a law.

It's a law but without penalty for breaking. Therefore ... it's still a law. You can't say that because a law has no penalty for breaking it, that it's not a law. It sure in the heck IS a law. And it's highly obnoxious to enter another country and break the law ... thumbing your nose at the country at the same time.

There is a Flag code.

There is Flag etiquette.

There is respect.

There is no punishable law....

Add: Unless the wrong person walks by.

The person flying the Mexican flag over the US flag shouldn't have done it.
That was obnoxious.
The vet destroying the property shouldn't have done it.
He should have tried to educate the other person first and if that didnt' work then go on a media campaign or something (IMHO).

Common sense. Middle ground. Everyone play nice and respectful.

But I do understand the frustration of the Vet.
I served in the US Army for five years.
So I get it.

stargatetravels
There is no law, why can't you folks understand this point??

Yes there is. It's just that the Supreme Court has ruled that there is no penalty for breaking it.

It IS a law.
Is IS obnoxious and disrespectful to enter another country and break their laws.
To quote you, stargatetravels, ... 'Why can't you folks understand this point??'

No... it's not.
If freedom of speech trumps this "law" then it is in effect redundant.
It's as much a law as some of those old crazy laws that are only laws because nobody thought they needed changing because people really aren't that stupid are they?

we have a law in the UK that states you can shoot a Welshman with a longbow.
does not mean you actually can... it's just an old archaic law nobody bothered to change

Much like your utterly retarded flag law.

You may only shoot a Welshman with a longbow within the city walls after midnight and until 06:00 a.m the following day.

www.vincelewis.net...

So no... you can repeat it until you;re blue in the face, but NOBODY can stop anyone from flying any flag they wish, however they wish.

And the fact that people are bothered shows how pathetic said people are.

Why not worry about the appalling way vets were/are treated and not helped when they return from combat?
Why not have respect for PEOPLE and their sacrifices and struggles instead of worrying about a piece of cloth?

People are real, tangible and can be helped...

There is no need to put the word 'law' into quotes. IT IS THE LAW. Period.
And it's obnoxious to go to a country and disrespect their laws and customs.

And the fact that people are bothered shows how pathetic said people are.

The fact that some people aren't bothered shows how pathetic said people are.

I was extremely polite and just stated common sense facts.
Too bad you had to resort to name calling and snide remarks.

yes but we have a bill of sale and a deed.
they don't

Where is this bill of sale for land that was stolen from Native Americans? Mexico stole the land just like the Europeans so it really had no right to sell the land. If laws that we have now existed back then there would be no United States of America.

I'm glad I was able to serve my country. And I am glad that, while I was in, we didn't have unnecessary conflicts to be engaged in. (I was in from 1981-1986). My husband, father, brother, and father-in-law all served. My daughter wants to go into the airforce as a scientist after she graduates college. I hope that works out for her.

You keep saying this.... so you know for a fact this man wasn't BORN in the US?
Or are you just assuming because of all those invading immigrants.

And before you spout off about how you, your husband, your cat or whoever else is Mexican, just don't bother.
You keep assuming, along with others in this thread, that the guy in the video and anyone else flying a flag other than "old glory" are invaders, coming there to "thumb their noses"

At least we know what this is REALLY about... and it's not a flag.

Well it might not be against Federal law.

Some States have very specific Flag laws.

Check it out...

no homer did not, a upside down flag indicates distress. being a vet and more than likely knowing the flag code, which i know i did when i was in the Corps and had to severe on the Color Guard, what a upside down flag means.

he probably would have went to render assistance, or see why it was upside down, and agreed with homer.

Much like your utterly retarded flag law.

I just noticed this. "YOUR utterly retarded flag law" Does this mean you aren't an American? If you are an American, it's your law too. If you aren't an American, then what the hell does it matter to you ... you don't live here.

At least we know what this is REALLY about... and it's not a flag.

Oh grow up. Your insinuations of racism are absurd.

1 - It's the LAW.
2 - It's the CUSTOM.
3 - It's disrespectful to willfully to be in a country and go against them.
4 - It's breaking the law to go against them.
5 - People were being respectful and posting in a polite manner on this thread. Too bad you aren't one of them. Now I can see why you are backing the disrespectful lawbreaker. Disrespectful birds of a feather ...

So again, judging by that, the only one who broke the LAW (and actual real law) was the Vet.
Not only damaging property, but also defacing/defiling the US flag.
It was happily and legally flying above a US citizens business and then the guy came along, cut it down, damaging it, crumpled it and screwed it up walking away.

He really is a law breaker huh?

The only constant is change. There are no original land owners ... anywhere. Humanity goes back hundreds of thousands of years. People (in some form or other) come and go. It's in a constant state of flux. The world is overpopulated and we'll all be over breeding to the point of extinction anyways.

3.... I don't even know what you're saying there? "to wilfully to be in a country and go against them" WTH does that mean?
5 - Being new to the thread, you have no idea what has or hasn't happened in this thread, so yeah.

As I said earlier ... neither one did the right thing. Both broke laws. Both acted without common sense.
But you keep giving the one who thumbed his nose at the USA laws and customs a free pass.

Don't be obtuse. It's breaking the law to go against the laws of the country. Very simple.
Both people involved broke the law. Neither was right.
But you keep giving your 'Mexican flag flyer' a free pass.
I guess we should all assume you're an anti-American bigot of some kind ...
after all, you took liberties with bizarre inferences of bigotry on our part.

I'm not giving anyone a free pass.
The store/business owner broke no laws and was flying the US and Mexican flags with pride.

if the crazy, violent, law-breaking Vet wanted it down, he should have gone through the proper channels.
Destruction of property and vandalism are not things that people fought for in the US.
The US fought AGAINST fascism.... the vet is a fascist and threatens violence.

There is only one perpetrator and one victim in this incident.

Also this thread has raged for days... all the posts and answers and questions are contained within.
Read the thread and you'll find any answers to any further questions you have.
