Oh boy, it seems the world is gonna blow up soon. NATO is meeting in emergency session tomorrow. This is NOT good. It is being reported on Sky News right now. I watched The Day After last night and I fear that now we really are facing nuclear war. I don't think kids today realise what this means for us all.

NATO has nothing to do with the Ukraine...NATO cannot invade...Ukraine voted by 226 votes, NOT to be a member.
Since 2010 they've "co-operated" with NATO..a bit like Georgia...NATO didnt help Georgia either did it.

Relax.

Nothing's going to happen, calm down.

If we didn't go to war during the Cuban missile crisis, we certainly aren't going to risk Armageddon over Ukraine.

The likely outcome will be Russia annexes Crimea, possibly also Ukraine (used to be part of the Soviet Union, remember?) and a lot of hot air will be spouted by politicians on both sides.

Then everyone will forget about it till something else grabs out attention.

Meh, they've already had one and did nothing. NATO will do nothing militarily as they have stated time and time again. They will continue to "talk tough" by threatening to not allow Russia in the World Cup, or G8 summit, and Russia will keep laughing.

There will be no good outcome from this. At the very least this has already caused the U.S./Russia relations to be at a low we haven't seen in a long time, regardless of who is at fault over Ukraine.

The Soviet Union went belly up over 23 years ago, what does that have to do with the price of eggs in China? Are you saying that all former Soviet countries are fair game for invasion from Russia?

I genuinely hope that all those saying relax and calm down and that there is nothing to fear are right. I for one am going to go out food shopping this week and stock up on food and water supplies just in case. I have my first aid kit thankfully, and will add a few extras such as wind up radio, matches, and a basic survival kit such as purification tablets and so on. America at the moment wont have to worry about the gas being cut off, we in Europe do. However if this does go nuclear, America along with the rest of the planet will be contending with radioactive food and water. Assuming that there are survivors of the Holocaust that could very well occur from all of this. I don't think it is too paranoid of me to be worried. This is a very serious situation and crisis the world faces at the moment.

Well, they are having an emergency meeting about something.

I'm not saying that they will do anything, but they are having a meeting.

Just setting some perspective...it's not like they invaded Hawaii, or something.

Yes, you're quite right, they shouldn't be doing this.

But military simply isn't an option.

This isn't Iraq we're talking about.

The truth is that Ukraine has significant natural resources, such as oil, coal and natural gas, that the puppet government had been selling to Russia instead of the EU so that Russia could continue to supply the EU with those resources as a premium. When the EU began negotiations with Ukraine concerning economic aid, it would be in exchange for a decent discount on these resources, which would, of course, come in under the price that Russia was selling at. The puppet government refused and was ousted by the people. For Russia to maintain it's economic power over Oil in the Eurasian region, they have to keep Ukraine from selling said resources independently. Weather or not there will be war depends on Russia being able to exert control over Ukraine's resources. If they can't by diplomacy, they will do so by force.

Then the world is in deep trouble. I will go to work tomorrow, but if there is indication war is gonna break out and I mean world war or European war, I shall head home. I want to die with my Father at home not in some anonymous cubeville office

NATO or elements of it are already involved, albeit covertly, no question
i'd even go as far to say they've been there from the get go.
I don't expect any overt action, likely some manuevering

NATO has no need to do anything miltary wise despite the fact that NATO vastly out numbers and out guns Russia. What they have is much more powerful weapon. Economic santions. Russia economy is crapping out big time. They are asking for an IMF loan. Who do you think has to approve that loan? Russia simply building leverage for talks later so has something to bargain with. They are banking on Ukraine not attacking on its own, which is very unlikely.

There's always an economic imperative lurking somewhere behind military manoeuvres.

I beg to differ, if i understand you correctly, i don't expect Ukraine to attack Russia, maybe a few skirmishes (hired thugs) that's about it. These armies don't want to tangle, and probably the Russians have been ordered not to .
The outcome and victor of this will be determined by who conducts the best propaganda war, and its in full steam

Why are you so terrified of the inevitable? First off, no matter what happens, you nor I have any say in its direction.

If war happens and you die, then so what? You're dead, nothing more to worry about. Plus we all die.

If war happens and you don't die then you just pulled the worst card from the deck, but since you have no way of determining your surival don't worry about crossing that bridge until you are standing at the edge of the gap.

If nothing happens (most probable outcome) then great. All that worrying was for nothing.

I've seen you post two separate threads about this potential conflict and both scream that you are panicking at something that isn't even definite yet. Just relax, watch the developing actions closely and react accordingly. Wasting time panicking will leave drained for when you need to do the actual life saving actions all whilenot accomplishing anything.
