So, with the idea of the US Military battling against US Militia, I think there are many things to consider.
Some are in fact home field advantage, US Military red tape to execute certain actions, the desertion rate and internal issues as well.
You have a large and powerful force that is large. Large is nice, but often means not fast and not scalable.
Then you have a light and fast force. This is nice, but the strike and run style of fighting would need to be used.

You say no American soldiers would attack their own but you failed to realize that there are soldiers from other countries on the ground in our country already under the guise of military war games.
There aren't enough American boots on the ground to hold the continental US, let alone foreign.
And lets say that even 25% of American troops joined with the government to fight, they'd have to make it passed all the ones who wouldn't. Foreign troops on our soil to put down an American revolt is a laughable concept. They wouldn't make it but a few days at best.
As far as American troops are concerned, I'm one of them. I do not want to destroy my own home and don't know a single soldier who does. Don't think we don't have these conversations regularly. Many of us are gun owners too. We're serious about our oaths to the Constitution, and we are certainly not the same army we were 20 - 40 years ago. We don't exist in an information vacuum, as I keep saying. We have access to the internet just as much as you do, we have access to news from around the world.
Hell right now I'm in Afghanistan. My ability to communicate while deployed has increased 1000 times what soldiers were able to do just 10 years ago. When I first came out here I wasn't sure that was even going to be possible. But my post count has only gone up since I deployed. The notion that somehow we're not gonna know what is going on is another effect of the pretentious attitude people take toward troops. The notion that we're all dumb and don't know anything outside of what our platoon sergeants tell us.
Likewise the same for the police. The idea that most police would simply follow these orders is ridiculous. Some may, but again, they would have to get passed the ones who wouldn't. I believe people have a conscience. That most people would see the stupidity in this endeavor. And the ones who refuse to see it, who would bloody their own people to enforce unjust law, would simply become the enemy, and justifiably so.
They can hire their private armies. They can get their foreign friends. Trust me, there aren't enough of them.edit on pTue, 04 Mar 2014 01:02:30 -060020144America/Chicago2014-03-04T01:02:30-06:0031vx3 by projectvxn because: (no reason given)

It's relatively difficult to twist a direct quote taken verbatim from Ghandi's book. The man never said not to fight back when attacked. Non-violence was a weapon he suggested to use against oppressors - not street thugs and murderers.
If you can sit back all non-violent-like while your house is invaded, your wife and children raped or killed, your property stolen - I won't admire your non-violent restraint. My family and I will pity your wife and children.
Why is it so hard for you to see the bigger picture? All of this gun confiscation nonsense will accomplish nothing except increase the violence.

Well I guess that means the Wolf Ammo will be hard to get for awhile. Ahhh well... They can keep their steel cases.

If 16 year old kids can hack their way into network systems like Target, Iranians can overtake a drone and Snowden can extract millions of classified documents, I am pretty sure people resisting can counter most of those items.

And what are gonna the people do against a military with jet fighter, missiles, force fields, microwave non-lethal weapons, drones, DUMBS, aircraft carriers, worldwide bases, and nuclear bombs?
Violence doesn't solve violence - it only extends it.
And, besides, am I the only one to deduce that maybe all this pro-revolution stuff is being pushed by Russia and/or China?
Hint: Snowden and Wikileaks met in Russia and in China. Another hint: the USA and China have unfinished business.

Were you attacked by the government? Did they sent you a sniper?

So... what does that have to do with you guys planning to kill thousands of people by throwing the USA into a revolution? The way I see it, you and your government are both bullies in this picture.
Why is it so hard for you to see the bigger picture? All of this gun confiscation nonsense will accomplish nothing except increase the violence.
I just don't see it. I live in Canada. No one has guns up here. Do you know how many murders we have in Canada vs USA? Hey, why don't you check by yourself?

The Swiss do have the odd bit of gun related violence but its not much and they have a thing where they have to attend national service/regular militia training until they are around 40 and HAVE to keep weapons so its a totally different basis for comparing gun ownership etc
