Fake Research Papers: How Did More Than 120 'Gibberish' Computer-Generated Studies Get Published?

These are likely conference papers at non-prestigious conferences. Somebody with little motivation or time was assigned the job of looking them over.

It won't happen in a serious prestigious journal. For example, I doubt there has ever been a synthetically generated fake paper published in Physical Review Letters or Nature.

And peer reviewed doesn't really help much when your mates at a few other universities are in on it and write in saying that it seems fine

Most peer reviews are double blinded.

I didn't see this in physics. The reviewer is given the manuscript as is with the author's names and affiliations.

Interesting, in my field it's usually an instant rejection if there's any identifying information. Sometimes this can't really be avoided though but you have to at least go through the motions.
