If Crimea declares independence, then that essentially gives the Russians a free pass.

It seems they have already taken the next step and setup an interim government.

The next thing to do is call for an election.

They have as much legitimacy as the current Ukraine government.

Quantitatively, they're a Superpower. Qualitatively, they learned after they invaded Georgia a few years ago that they had big problems with equipment and troops. They've been upgrading over the years, but production problems have led to those upgrades not going well in all areas. They've definitely improved in the last couple of years, but they still aren't back up to where they were at the height of the Cold War.

It is despicable to see the media force people into taking sides and help them keep headlines going for a few weeks. Drudge actually linked an article asking if Obama was a chicken! Are we in third grade and trying to organize a fight after school?

I'm all for freedom of press no matter what the topic happens to be. I'm just sick of the lack of humanity on the part of the media for trying to get war and violence started when it has nothing to do with US sled defense.

These are my sentiments precisely.

Lol now Cameron parrot the speach of Obama last night

David Cameron
@David_Cameron
I spoke to @BarackObama tonight. We agreed Russia's actions are unacceptable & there must be significant costs if they don't change course.

No one is paying attention to them anymore, so they have to do something to get the world's eye on them again.

I don't know, but I bet The French have already consulted Putin, and are currently drawing up a map that splits your Islands land between the two of them.

We, the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States and the President of the European Council and President of the European Commission, join together today to condemn the Russian Federation’s clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, in contravention of Russia’s obligations under the UN Charter and its 1997 basing agreement with Ukraine. We call on Russia to address any ongoing security or human rights concerns that it has with Ukraine through direct negotiations, and/or via international observation or mediation under the auspices of the UN or the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. We stand ready to assist with these efforts.

All I am saying if North Korea has the opportunity to do what they want with South Korea and maybe let a nuke go because America might be to busy dealing with Russia and possibly China.

If nukes fly you can forget about working half the planet will be radioactive. You'd be lucky to live 2 years if you survive the initial holocaust. Pray to be killed in first strike. The amount of nukes Russia and US have pointed at each other would probably wipe out life as we know it.

The Guardian live blog also reports that,

The Australian government has summoned the Russian ambassador to explain his country’s actions in Ukraine.

We’ll express our concerns officially, directly through him and also seek to ascertain exactly what the Russian government thinks it’s doing.

lol

Russian Ambassador: "Mr President, the Australian Government demands an explanation to what we are doing in Crimea."
Putin: "Tell them a dingo stole my baby. ha ha ha"
ok, I may have made up that last bit.

Just to help add some perspective as to who benefits with this unrest.

Global Research, February 07, 2014 “After three visits to Ukraine in five weeks, Victoria Nuland explains that in the past two decades, the United States has spent five Billion dollars ($5,000,000,000) to subvert Ukraine, and assures her listeners that there are prominent businessmen and government officials who support the US project to tear Ukraine away from its historic relationship with Russia and into the US sphere of interest (via “Europe”).

Victoria Nuland is the wife of Robert Kagan, leader of the younger generation of “neo-cons”. After serving as Hillary Clinton’s spokesperson, she is now undersecretary of state for Europe and Eurasia.”
