Many people are not aware or have forgoten that many Russians have Ukrainian roots or families in Ukraine and vise versa. Soldiers are people also. Putin is well aware of that also. This is why the situation is being handled as carefull as it can be. Simple people do not want war, they want a warm home and a stable job to go too. Its politicians who will pay the price if SHTF.

You are acting like the situation is over... Even thought the situation is at a simmer now, it can easily take a turn for the worse and boil over in no time... Whenever you have Russia and the US involved in sometime of dispute, anything is possible...

Reported by Reuters, posted on Yahoo.news: Ukraine says OSCE Military Observers to go to Crimea

KIEV/VIENNA (Reuters) - Ukraine said on Tuesday that observers from a pan-European security body would travel at its invitation to the Crimea region, where Russian forces have taken control, in an attempt to defuse a military standoff.

"An OSCE mission has arrived in Kiev which will go to the Crimean peninsula to monitor the situation," Ukraine's national security chief, Andriy Paruby, told a news conference in Kiev.

The article goes on to say:

"The invitation concerns the land territory of Crimea, for the time period of March 5-12, a maximum of two observers per country, and the reason is concern over Russia's military activity," a senior western diplomat said.

"Right now the invitation is specifically for Crimea but at the invitation of Ukraine they can also look elsewhere," another diplomat said.

Let's hope something good comes of this effort. At the very least it seems to be a step in the right direction.
