Funny, the great laws of Hammurabi also mention slaves. And most people back then had slaves.

Slavery in ancient times was rampant. Romans had slaves, Greeks had slaves, Assyrians had slaves, Canaanites had slaves. Everyone had slaves. Why are you surprised that the Bible would mention it?
