Roma Downey: Why we cut Satan from 'Son of God'

All intuition is telling me plain and simple: BECAUSE HE RESEMBLES OBAMA!

And from what I'm reading from Roma Downey (from the TV series 'Touched by An Angel), she's saying pretty much the same thing albeit a tadmore politically correct and way more spiritually invoking to the human spirit that is still left in hopefully some of us:

The devil was also in that episode. Someone made a comment that the actor who played the devil vaguely resembled our president, and suddenly the media went nuts. It went global, showing up all over TV and the Internet. That next day, when I was sure everyone would only be talking about Jesus, they were talking about Satan instead.

This is a battle of light and darkness.

It became ugly when people started making nasty statements. Something that had been born of a beautiful intention was suddenly under attack, and we were caught in the middle of spiritual warfare.

I knew it was just like Satan the narcissist to make it all about him and create division. I am sure he loved being the center of attention for even one day.

But for our movie, “Son of God,” I wanted all of the focus to be on Jesus. I want his name to be on the lips of everyone who sees this movie, so we cast Satan out. It gives me great pleasure to tell you that the devil is on the cutting room floor. This is now a movie about Jesus, the Son of God, and the devil gets no more screen time, no more distractions.

Perfectly said, Roma! A beautiful movie about Jesus, and the media turns it into a witch-hunt crticizing the movie as to why the actor playing Satan looks like Obama.

So much so, that all parts of the movie showing the devil, were forced to be CUT FROM PUBLIC VIEW. So much for freedom of expression. Sure, let's keep the sheeple in the dark about rampant Satanic temptation of today.

Nope, that didn't look like Obama but Jesus sure did look like a surfer dude I know from Malibu; not some mideastern Jew.
Movies play fast and loose with the truth though in many respects.

The next thing you know, the will have to pull their "Jesus Christ" actor because he looks too much like... well... " Jesus Christ"...

I am willing to bet that, had they chosen an actor to portray "Satan" that looked like any prominent Conservative, we wouldn't even be having this discussion....

So why did they make Satan black in the first place? I know, it's just a TV show. I think Satan is white with reddish tinged hair....Hmmm that's what my wife looks like. What a coincidence.

They should pull him because he looks like long haired white guy. I guess people just could not stomach Jesus who looks like somebody they would avoid on an airplane. Also if you watch the clip Satan is white and french I think. Not very Obama like.

The Obama character was cut for a simple reason. This new "Jesus Is a Handsome White Guy" movie is a conservative propaganda piece. Certainly the producers, casting directors, editors, and others who made the movie could see that this actor looked a lot like Obama and this fit with the conservative message. When this ploy to once more depict an image of the hated president as a devil was called out for being to over the top, it was dumped in order to salvage the rest of the conservative message of the movie.

Obama. Hahaha. And after posting on the Mars threads for lots of months, the last two or three seconds of the video appear to me exactly like a guy walking on Mars.

... or it could be because that has to be one of the most hokey, amateurish renditions of the story I've ever seen. Satan moves like he's got a bad case of the trots, and since when is the devil a shade of pale blue? Don't even get me started on Jeezus, although, he must be a recent graduate of the William Shatner School of Acting. Good-gooble-dy-goo!

I mean, really, what is this? Some D-Movie from the 60s someone dug up to prove that Satan looks like Obama?

This can't be something made recently, can it? Did a grade-school child produce it?

No, that can't be right. It'd be classier and more high-tech if that happened.

Side note: So, Jesus worships His Father. Does that mean that Jesus worships himself? Talk about narcissism.

Black? Satan in the movie (see original post) clearly looks olive/lightbrown skinned as one would find in egypt or other parts of northeast africa/mideast.

As does Jesus look fairly Palestinian (according the the Bible, Jesus was born in Palestine which a few decades was taken over by the UK created, US funded country called Israel)

Neither looks African nor Northern European imo

I don't see Satanists going to church every Sunday to hear about how righteous and upstanding they are compared to the rest of society. I don't see them sending around donation baskets so they can afford the wine they give to our children. I don't see Satanists going door to door at 6 in the morning. And I most certainly do not see Satanists jumping up and down in the forums yelling, "Hey! I'm a worshipper of Satan! I'm such a unique person!"

Satan is a narcissist, huh? So what does that make God? Just thought I'd throw in a word for the guy who apparently can't talk for himself.

It's a nice scene. You can really feel the emotion. Satan was a little lackluster though. Kinda expected more pomp from him, more extravagance, given the stories, you know. I think they underplayed him on purpose. Wanted him to look weak and uncertain, or maybe just bland and forgettable. Like he wasn't even trying. Either way, he certainly didn't show the same conviction Jesus did. I think that was on purpose too.

Yeah, I do have to agree.

I sat through Passion of the Christ, and Jim Caviezel does a better Jesus because well...he can make a convincing ME man (for an American of Swiss/Irish Descent)

The Bible/Son of God Jesus is just too pretty and white.

Mohamen Mehdi ( the actor who plays satan ) is not black. He's middle eastern ( more along the lines of French/Morocco . According to movie sources. They gave him a dark grey appearance to represent death and evil being a grey area to a sense. It was not meant to be racist or political.

On a side note if I was Satan..I would be offended by Barry stealing his likeness.
