So then all other religious holidays are against the constitution?

If that is the case, which we all know it isn't, why are you the only one saying it? Wouldn't you think that someone before you would have made that point?

It's the federal government recognizing one specific religion. That's a big no-no.

The federal government can recognize different religions. The exact words of the constitution are - "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.". Having 'days of visibility' or 'pride days' are not establishing a religion.

I was in the US Army as a Chaplains Assistant back in the 1980s. We had a book of officially recognized by the US Government religions. It contained about 40 or so religions that people had that the government said were 'officially recognized' and that we had to supply support for if they needed religious support while in the field. If your religion wasn't in the book, then it wasn't recognized, and the US Army (government) was under no obligation to support you in observing it.

Things have probably changed since then, but not the basic premise of the US Government recognizing religions.

The White House puts up Christmas decorations, gives special Ramadan announcements to Muslims, wishes Jews happy Hanukkah, etc etc . So having the US Gov't 'observe' Trans Visibility Day means that they can also 'observe' national Christian Pastor Appreciation Day. Right?

There are a few days on the calendar I observe, work days, days off, paydays, bill days, and appointments. None of the others mean squat and are an annoyance, and some of them cost me time and money for very little in return. Bah Humbug to all holidays.

The only religious holiday that is federally recognized is Christmas. The reason that is allowed is because the federal holiday doesn't actually instruct people to celebrate the holiday. It's just a day off work for federal workers.

A day that is specifically raising up one religion by name would violate the Establishment Clause.

So then a trans visibility day is instructing people to become trans?

Source for that?

Having Catholic Visibility Day or Lutheran Pride Day (etc etc) would not be instructing people to celebrate the holiday or the religion either. And it wouldn't even be a day off for anyone.

TransVisibility Day and Baptist Visibility Day ... same/same

You yourself said, the US recognizes dozens of religions. If they choose only one of those ro honor with a special day by name it would be establishing that religion about all others.

So either Trump would need to make a visibility day for all of those religions or he makes them for none.

That means Biden making a big deal out of TransVisibility Day means he is establishing Trans above all other LGBTQ people and they each should have their own day ... OR NONE OF THEM SHOULD HAVE A DAY!!

For crying out loud ... spending time 'celebrating' TransVisibility Day, or any other "special" day, isn't what they are supposed to be in DC for. They are supposed to be protecting the border, taking care of the economy, dealing with foreign countries ... not playing with this LGBTQ crap (or any other crap).

Last I checked presidential proclamations aren't law and the section commonly cited as the source for the penumbras that lead to the notion of the separation of church and state says "congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion".

Why? If Trans people can have a specially recognized day by the White House, why can't other groups? Everyone should get their special day. OR .. NO ONE gets a special day. That's more equitable.

Make it a national holiday to underscore how important it is.

The White House puts out official messages at Christmas and Ramadan and so on.
How is that not establishing one religion over another?

I say .. no 'special days' for anyone.
Just quit with that crap and do some actual work.
I can't afford groceries. Gas is outrageous.
Rent? Forget it for older people on a fixed income!

There are things the White House and DC should be working on.
Taking time to suck up to special groups with special days isn't something they should be doing.

The establishment clause only covers laws.

Since when did observing a visibility day become a law?
